Adding my own personal 2 cents, I agree that locking the nightfall out this week by having it be the new strike is increadibly poor form and predatory.
I already have the expansion myself, but a couple firends are just waiting a few weeks still due to weding costs. It's not teven about the 'free' access content, they have every previous expension and did pay for the game when it first came out.
They have paid for access too the nightfall and other core playlists several times over, and trying to say that its because it is a new strike isn't even an acceptable excuse, because guess what.....it shows up in the strike rotator list even if you don't have the expansion.
So having it playable by people without the expansion but NOT accessible as the nightfall, feels like nothing but an attempt to bait people into buying the expansion just by having the "Buy lightfall" pop ups from accessing a core playlist, This is why it makes me rather mad.
End of personal 2 cents.
TL:DR
A) Don't have the new strike as a nightfall if you don't want people playing it without paying,
B) Don't have it playable in the strike rotation list but then at the same time try say you can't play it in another core activity.
This is outrageous that a free to play activity meant to give good rewards to people who grind it. Locking an event that is available to free-to-play players behind a DLC paywall is ridiculous. This means that for an entire week of gaming on Destiny, anyone that does not pay $50 for a mediocre DLC with less than mediocre storytelling cannot get pinnacle gear or try to grind for exotics. I can understand locking a raids and dungeons behind a paywall, but an activity that is originally free to play? NO. Why even make that nightfall map that of something on Neomuna. Furthermore, the planet of Neomuna is open to free to play players, but you will lock a nightfall for those of us that refuse to drop hundreds of dollars into a game? This feels like a jab at those people (including myself) as a way to coerce them into spending even more money on a DLC whose content will be vaulted away in a few years. This is bullshit Bungie and you know it.
Oh no, you have to pay money to play the new stuff? How outrageous! 😡
It’s not that way every week though. So you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get that pinnacle or grind for exotics over the year. Plus pinnacles are kind of meaningless if your not trying to do the end game content.
