First off this is a long rabbit hole I managed to jump into. I’m sorry. I love cosmology and math. There are a bunch of questions and little to no answers. Just plain theory.
Final shape theory
The final shape is the square; the foundation of all life. The witness wants to recreate all life without the traveler (the divine being) because it only brings pain and misfortune? It speaks this truth in shadowkeep. The triangle is also a portal (or veil) to the world of gods. Which the veil is into the heart (or world) of the traveler. The divine being (the traveler) created the universe with the square (the foundation). Therefore the final shape is within the traveler.
The circle, the triangle and the square are used across destiny in many formats. Overload, anti barrier, and unstoppable is a good example of these. The main loading screen also has these three shapes.
Symbolism of the main shapes
Circle (the divine being)
First we look at the basic geometry of the circle: center, radius, and circumference. The center is the origin. Radius extension of the point in space. Circumference is the limit of the shape. The center is referred to as the spirit, the divine being creating the universe. In some cultures it is called God, sun, star or the seed of all life. The radius is the soul of the divine being. Last but not least is the circumference: the matter of the divine being.
Take the traveler for a moment, the thing we see is obviously the circumference. The traveler is massive so the extent of the traveler’s soul is immense. But what is at the center or heart of the traveler? Perhaps the final shape.
The circle has many different meanings in philosophy and spirituality. The most common form is the yin-yang. Discussing the polarity of the divine being. Neither can exist without each other. Yin being the dark nature: negative, night, winter and female. While yang, being the light nature: positive, day, summer, and male.
Another form of the circle is the flower of life it has been used on Egyptian temples of Abydos to Osiris and was used in the Middle Ages. It was most likely known by Leonardo da Vinci. This symbol is the duplication of the circle in all six dimensions.
The triangle (the force of creation)
So to create the triangle, you will need to draw to circles, ones that overlap each other. We can create the triangle.
In some cases the triangle represents the flow of time: past, present and future. If you add three more sides they should further represent points of time. Hexagon (6 sides) the 6 days of creation. Dodecagon (12 sides) the 12 months of the year. And the 24 sided polygon the 24 hours in a day.
The symbolism of the triangle is also tied to symbols of divinity (Egyptian), wisdom (Pythagorean) and trinity (Christianity). Let’s look at the Trinity of humanity. Because a triangle consists of three equal sides, humanity must develop three areas in harmony: intellect, heart and will. So humanity can properly manifest the light.
The triangle has meaning in psychology as well. The victim, the rescuer, and the persecutor. The victim is oppressed, helplessness, and powerless. If the victim has no prosecutor it will actively seek one out to perpetuate its feelings. The rescuer, a classic enabler, it will continue to enable the victim’s feelings and will disregard their own emotions or mental health. The persecutor, is angry, controlling and a villain.
The witness fits all three of these roles. It’s the the victim of the traveler in some format (it is currently unknown to me at this moment). It is the rescuer believing that it is our savior from the light (or traveler). It is the persecutor it wants us to worship it and it alone.
The square (the foundation)
To create the square you must draw a line to “cut” the circle in half then cut it in half one more time. Connect the four points on the circumference to make a square.
Square polygons represent space and matter. A square the 4 cardinal points of space. The octagon the 4 states of matter.
The four state of matter are solid, liquid, gas, and igneous. All that is solid is called earth. All that is liquid is called water. Everything that is gas is air. And igneous is fire.
The cubic stone is a representation of completion and perfection. It is the foundation stone and is the idea of stability. The cube is the durability of matter.
Squaring the circle is thought to be a spiritual journey. Square (earthly) to circle (divine) it is a passage of divine transcendence. In the quadrature of the circle, the square represents the physical world. The circle is infinite, the celestial power, and knowledge. To succeed at square the circle you must spiritualize it. Is the witness trying to transcend?
The square in psychology, is the representation of four moods according to the Greek. This theory is using the human body as a reflection of the universe. This theory also believes that human psychology is controlled by organic forms of matter. Each of the moods have different qualities: yellow bile (Latin) is hot and dry, black bile (-blam!- in Latin) is cold and dry, phlegm is cold and wet, and blood (sanguis in Latin) is hot and wet. To convert the moods into elements; yellow bile is fire, black bile is earth, phlegm is water, and blood is air.
Let’s talk about double the size of a square. How do you do that? The duplication square used by Plato is his meno. This is only possible if the square consists of four triangles. Think of it like origami. If you fold the triangle out you would have a bigger square double the size of the original. This is the standard philosophy for knowledge. Learning is remembering!
Here’s another square used to describe the different dimensions. It’s called a tripartite board. To draw the tripartite board you need to draw two lines in parallel to each going horizontal, then draw two more parallel lines that intersect the original two lines (like a tic-tac-toe board). We now have nine squares! From the top to bottom that represents the attributes and from leg to right those are the worlds. So an example is 1; is the location of the divine world. Here’s the list:
Location of the divine world
Reflection of the human world in the divine world
Reflection of the natural world in the divine world
Reflection of the divine world in the human world
The location of the human world
Reflection of the natural world in the human world
Reflection of divine world in the natural world
Reflection of the human world in the natural world
The location of the natural world.
TLDR: the final shape is possibly a square or cube

The Final Shape isn’t a literal shape…

Edited by Centaur-1: 3/14/2023 4:53:38 AMThe Final Shape is a green square, from which the Witness will erase all realities and create one perfect reality. He will be stopped by three brave heroes from three different realities, each with something important to the heroes that was taken by the Witness, and they’ll win by trapping the Witness between dimensions with the help of another time traveling ally…
if nobody understands this, I’ll cry for the rest of Spring Break.
I can't explain why exactly but I have a strong believe that our Ghosts will be the key to this final chapter. I'm no lore master and I could be wrong but if I remember correctly, they were created by the Traveller and they are a mix of circle, triangle and square. Also, the way the pyramids are currently around the Traveller look like Sagira shell.

2 RepliesIt is most likely a Hexagon. If you travel to Xur's treasure hoard, you'll se a hexagon inside a circle and triangle. In the select your character screen, the hunter and warlock's logos are comprised of 3 triangles each, The titan's is on top, and is comprised of those triangles. six in total and forming a hexagonal shape. I think The Final Shape also refers as to what Bungie refers to what Destiny as a game should be, and not only the light and dark saga. To quote The Speaker "Not Light or Dark, but something else"

I believe it is simpler and has been dangled in front of our faces several times. "The LINE between light and darkness is so very thin..."

4 RepliesIt astonishes me just how many people come to the LORE forum without actually knowing the actual LORE. If you’ve read any single piece of lore referring to “the final shape”, you would KNOW that it isn’t an ACTUAL shape. When people are “in shape” does that mean they are in or embody an ACTUAL shape? Or is that just an expression? Same principle here. “The final shape” of the UNIVERSE itself is a universe devoid of all life. Completely and utterly empty. THAT is what “the final shape” is.

i like your post. just here to add one thing about cubes or boxes. when you flatten that shape it turns into a cross in 2D.

I don't think the final shape is a literal shape, but perhaps an abstract concept.

3 RepliesI barely understood this but atleast we have paragraphs
