A new FIX for infinite loading screen

Hi, I'm the author of this post that has been linked around recently https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/262499337?sort=0&page=0 I've found a potential fix (shoutout to SlenderBeans). This may work for you if you have connected any new audio devices, have a more complex audio setup such as using a usb interface, or if you have connected a device capable of audio including a new monitor or a vr headset. I want to also mention that often on updating Nvidia drivers and windows updates, disabled audio devices can be reset to enabled and cause havoc, this has happened to me unrelated to destiny before and wanted to mention in case this was a root cause for me Here's the fix that worked for me: - Open windows > settings > App Volume and Device Preferences - Make sure steam is set to Default - Launch Destiny - Navigate back to your App volume and device preferences - Set Destiny to Default - Force quit Destiny via task manager - (I deleted my cvars.xml here, this may or may not be required) If that didn't work for you @әуәѕ who has been in this situation for a long while also found that they had to clear their Nvidia shader cache. This didn't work for me, but if you have exhausted all other options try this as well

  • thanks a lot. I had this infinite loading screen for 3 weeks now and I couldn't find a solution. It worked for me! But I have no idea why it happened. I didn't change any of my audio devices. Maybe the Nvidia driver... Didn't need to delete the cvars.xml thing btw.

  • So this comment made me start thinking. I haven't had my SteelSeries GameDac connected to my PC in AGES. Recently upon installing lightfall, I connected it again so that I'd be able to talk to my buddies and start raiding and such again. After reading your comment, I switched my Audio Out to my receiver instead of my gamedac. Relaunched the game. Instantly connected to my Character Screen. ALL I DID was change the actual audio device by simply clicking my Audio Source. Didn't have to fiddle with internal settings. Hopefully, this helps some of you!

  • Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I've also noticed my issue is slightly different than most. Instead of getting infinite loading screen the game will freeze trying to load in the character selection screen. I've also been having this issue about a week or longer before lightfall even came out, so this has been goin on a pretty long time for me.

  • It happened to me literally today. And I have no idea why. Thank you for the existence of this forum, because setting Destiny volume to default a really helped. I have... so many questions to this. And even more questions to Bungie. I wouldn't want to face such a problem by a strange accident every time.

  • Tried this solution as well. Didn't find any success with it...

  • Hey thanks for this. For me it was as simple as launching the game with my Bluetooth headset disconnected, using my speakers as the default audio device. It's working normally after that.

  • I did what you wrote but I am still stuck on the loading screen. Should I uninstall and reinstall destiny 2 or will bungie release an update to fix this problem

Holy -blam!- I tried everything but changing audio sources... thank you this worked!! But I ask why?? I still think Bungie broke the game, I had no issues play before the Lightfall update. I hope they at least own up to it and post something on their Twitter, also give credit to you and other people who found the fix. I was waiting for today's maintenance to see if it was gonna fix the game for me but after posting in another thread here someone replied to me with the link to this thread. @Crisidelm thanks This thread should be PINNED Bungie, get your house in order!! Be courteous to people who fix your game.

    • hey bud! just wanted to leave a comment because I've been seeing you post for a few days on and off as well. Bungie asked everyone to post their DXDIAG after they start up D2 and then start the analysis, As most people said it seems to be like AppHangB1, but I also saw a bucket error, when I googled it, it ended up with a SINGULAR search result which was basically some sort of generic error. could you post yours if possible? I'm by no means a bungiehelp staff, but as a gamer w/ the knowledge I'd be dope if I could try and narrow this down any more.

      • holy -blam!- it worked. In audio settings, one of the two audio options (output, input) was completely blank, I set to default and it works!
