Did Bungie Playtest this week’s Nightfall at all?

I love a good challenge, but if load into “hero” I’m not trying to sweat it out for 20+ minutes. The scoring is atrocious. 3x the enemies as last week and 20k less points. The points get cut in half at 20 minutes on what was the longest battlegrounds last season? I don’t mind the ad density it the final room, but red bar thrall one hit melee killing me while a psycho is chasing me with the blade of doom seems a little overtuned. I’m all for making CHALLENGING content more so, but this was a bit much.

  • They nerfed the points so you start below a 1.0x (0.94?) multiplier anyway. They know its no fun at all so they force us to play extra by making sure that we can only score a certain amount.

    • I dont think any type of battlegrounds should belong in nightfall or strikes. Bungie must be out of ideas for strikes...

    • First hero was 30. Second was around 15. Third was almost 30.

    • The nightfall is annoying but tbh it's not really that bad if snd onmy if you get a team who knows how to do the first part efficiently. Hey at least there's no respawn restricted if there was then this would literally be worse than any raid. Also I just realized if this is in rotation that means it might be a gm this season.

      • Haha yeah just did this on Legend and uh.. was actually somewhat difficult. It's just the bullet sponge situation. I like the incoming damage but the amount of health everything has it nutty.

      • The psycho chasing me with a blade of doom LOL that cracked me up!! But it's true that big dude disappears and reappears right behind you an BOOM scares the -blam!- out of me, even when his shield goes back up he's head hunting you... Plus wizards lighting you up and crazy thralls chasing you as well. It's insane. Tried going for the 130k triumph but we all ran out of Heavy ammo and the time started ticking backwards.

        Yeah BungLe went overboard with the difficulty. I'm a 4x gilded conquerer. GMs used to be a challenge, but one I enjoyed and could fairly easily get through without issue carrying one person who was all thumbs, lol. This nightfall is actually ridiculous to the point my team and I just did the easiest one to get it done, then hopped off for dinner. One apparently unforseen consequence of how BungLe has made the game so much harder, is that it's much less fun and enjoyable, and my friends and I have been playing it drastically less. Well done, BungLe. 😬👍 Edit: yes, we could've done harder difficulties... but why? No point really, and much less fun that it already was.

        • You do not have to stand on the platforms, just kill away from each one and it times out.....enjoy next time. points are tight i agree but the higher light the easier it is.

              • Nightfall used to mean wipe and go to orbit. You couldn't even enter rooms or it would be guaranteed death. Be better.

              • This is what the call, "adding content". They seem to be running out of creativity. "Let's make the game harder, so the players grind more and extend playtime". Throw in some reskins, and let's sell this DLC. Profit.

              • There will never be such thing as actual challenging content in this game outside of learning the mechanics of a new raid/dungeon. Simply because the core of how this game is designed to introduce “challenge” to us is by artificial difficulty. It’s always been this way by default. A Battleground becoming a NF is proof of that. It only tells me there was never any definitive line between a Strike/NF/GM and a Battlegrounds. The different names lead to an assumption that Battlegrounds was a entirely new addition to the game. As we can see now with its addition to the NF family, it’s just strikes with arguably more waves. This might sound like sarcasm, and it’s not, but it seems to me that their way of “challenging” is by inconveniencing us some way or another. Resilience changes were a pretty clear indication of that. Look how necessary it was in Master Duality, and arguably Master Spire, pre-Lightfall. It didn’t make content a walk in the park, but it sure felt like I spec’d into something that made a noticeable difference. Now not so much. Do I want the old dmg reduction changes back? Well honestly I don’t care. I’m just confused on what the intention here is. One grenade spam build (that costs resources) gets nuked, but the other gets buffed? I’m no Titan main but damn, if that wasn’t biased then I don’t know what is. The true Starfire build is literally 3 exotics in one. It puts Phoenix Cradle to shame. For zero cost at that. I have no dog in that fight, but we couldn’t just buff other things to you know.. give incentives to at least TRY another exotic? You mean I have to run the same old Syntho build that takes no effort but a button spam if I want to play Titan for the “challenging” content? Ok, so please do enlighten me of what this challenging content is, as I’m clearly having a hard time comprehending it. Flooding enclosed areas with ads that shoot non-stop, with max tuned aim assist/tracking will never be anything remote to challenging. Cover means nothing if splash dmg is tuned all the way up. It’s obnoxious if anything. There’s absolutely no reason a Titan or skating Warlock should be getting sniped by a Knight Boomer midair, across from the other side of the room at the speed the guardian is moving at for cover. Good luck if you’re a Hunter, before your feet touch the ground your ghost will be staring at a dead body. Corniest f***ing experience honestly. Are we supposed to run triple anti-threat mods on our chest? Is that the meta moving forward? Because I for sure know that 3 different burn-resistance mods on a chest piece with 100 Resilience does jack sh*t on Legend and higher. What’s the point of the Resilience Armor Charge mod if it’s assumed that you don’t get extra dmg resistance from it at 100 Resilience, and running sub-100 Resilience isn’t even optimal in this games sandbox anymore? Is that mod for ppl who don’t run 100 Resilience, for this supposed “more challenging” game? Are they aware that anything under 100 Resilience is not in their best interest? Disguising questionable decisions in the sandbox behind this “challenge” word isn’t going to go over as many heads as they think. Certainly not mine.

                • Yea now you gotta have some kind of a survival build to not keep getting smacked around. I found void hunter with Omnioculus, Wavesplitter and Retrofit Escapade +unstoppable scout actually a fun loadout on this. Basically Wavesplitter is another machine gun with an orb pickup and Omnioculus lets me revive others safely and make them invis on revival. Only problem is that barrier champs stun from volatile rounds is not working for some reason.

                  • That NF definitely still has some battlegrounds modifiers on it as well as the nf tune. The way the knights and centurions spam and their accuracy is absolutely the most aggressive in the game
