Even with all of the fragments, Strand Hunter is just not great.
Wanna do a suspension build? Titan can do that LEAGUES better. Wanna do an unravel build? Warlocks dominate that area. Wanna do a sever build? First of all what a waste and a fragment can do that, rendering your melee even more useless than it already was. Wanna do a woven mail build? Titan is still better in that area and you also HAVE to use grapple.
The ONLY thing hunters have going for them is their super doing more damage than intended because of a glitch. A class's viability should not be decided because of something not working correctly. The subclass doesn't just need higher uptime on something like it's melee or for it to do more damage, it needs another perk on one of the aspects.
(let me be extra clear since I already know someone is gonna be like: "the super is good in crucible!" I don't care. I don't play crucible and 98% of the games content is PvE.)
Edit: Whirling maelstrom quite literally saved this subclass

4 Replieswarlocks got screwed yet again and there isn't 1 post that I've seen. hunters get one of the best DPS supers in the game along with great survivability and the forums are littered with BUNGIE REEEE I can't solo 1 phase raid bosses reee.

Yeah but at least it does boss damage and you don't feel like you're hitting a boss with a freaking stick.. the Titan strand the warlock strand the DPS for bosses freaking suck these two strand classes they're more for add control.. I just think Bungie made the subclasses much more weaker just for the sake of PVP

2 RepliesYou say unravelling is better on warlock. The only way to trigger unravel on warlock is with a melee that does very little damage, doesn't activate kick-start mods and has a cooldown so long that it is barely worth using. That keyword is just hard to access in general, nothing specific to hunter.

6 RepliesExactly. The survivability is there only if you use the new exotic and grapple, but the grapple is very, very poor when it comes to power and utility in combat, compared to other classes and their tools and exotics.

Yeah, for a subclass that seems to be [i]focused [/i] on abilities, their launch changes to cooldowns feels like they gimped their own NEW subclass from playing to its fullest potential.

1 ReplyAfter they unlocked the fragments for Strand, I’ve really been enjoying it. Running the new sidearm or quicksilver and the following fragments: Thread of Ascent, Binding, Continuity, and Isolation plus whatever artifact mods that relate to Strand. Once I get the ability to craft the HC and SMG, I’ll put the new hatchling perk on and further enhance my setup

You're just using it wrong. Literally the highest DPS super and can have infinite suspend, grenade, grapple etc etc builds with it

You can do suspend build arguably better with hunter than with Titan with the smash!

The whip is one of the highest DPS supers in the game.

The only way I can get it to be better is using the new exotic and assassin cowl and I like Assassin's Cowl better grapple power melee hit Turning invis and healing i heard star eater ok but I rather not put my faith in relying heavily on a super Warlock and titans are broken Titans- yea let's give them another barrier ability and exotic not like they not already breaking pvp able to suspend everything Warlock can clear a entire room with 1flick melee hit with Necrotic Grip 😂 or with threaders

They want hunters to be Spider-Man but enemies can map you no matter what speed you’re going so it’s useless in high end content. I’m not doing it. I made a grenade/suspend build and it’s ok. Like it was fun to try out but I don’t want to run it over pretty much any other sub build.
