This one is something else. The first phase is very very tedious with the amount of adds and the torments. That constantly launch you off the map. On top of the flamer thrower guys that again, launch you off the map. Tell me why there are 2 phases to this boss bungie. Why must I waste my time and ammo just for calus to gain his health back and to constantly chase me around a small ring with no cover what so ever. With a ridiculous hit box to pretty much one shot you. Oh even better, if you die, you start the entire fight all over again. My question again is WHY.

My strategy [BEHEMOTH TITAN BUILD] this is my first time beating him solo no strand, im running stasis with the artifacts buffs I have lost signal as my primary to get grenda launcher weaken debuff plus continuous damage, blast him with that then switch to the new vantage point the game gives you, swap between those for dps, for ads, as soon as they spawn hit them with ICE wall grenade bash ice Wal shatter usually kills all of them maybe not shadow incendiary, if he's alive usually back up so I don't get launched get him low enough to finisher, rinse and repeat, once calus spawn the first tormentor focus on him, staying on first platform jumping left to right the whole fight so calus doesn't blast me with sun beams I use thunderlord for heavy really good against the tormentor, once I kill the first one clear ads dps until he spawns second one I clear that tormentor then I dps to second phase and it's should just be you vs calus, use titan statis super, make sure you get all those shatters on him, and run away for dear life while you blast him with thunder lord and hope you don't get launched off the map and do it all again.

Bruh the mechanic is just stupid. Like it's not even fun. Festival of the lost pumpkin head guys have better mechanics...

Edited by Kiro - 13: 3/4/2023 4:46:31 PMHere are tips to leverage the mechanics on legendary: 1)On each platform leave the elite and 1 cabal up, This causes no more additional adds to spawn. if you kill any more then this calus spawns more adds. 2)Kill all the scions in the center platform but 2. He will spawn more if you leave 1 or none, he also spawns additional scions with the tormentors. just kill the additional scions that spawn with the tormentors leaving 2 in the center platform. 3) Use anarchy, enter the final boss phase(gladiator calus) with max anarchy ammo(16). Just tag him twice and run in circles. This is enough to kill calus. Joke of a fight on legendary if you apply these methods/tactics.

Edited by phi: 3/4/2023 4:44:34 PMThis is very poorly designed. Typical phased bullet sponge boss combined with the redesigned cringe boss stomp to throw you off a small arena. You get a triumph worth 5 points and some BDE if you beat it though. Keep trying. Witherhoard and Osteo are clutch.

1 ReplyI hated this fight, but finally beat it on my hunter once I got the advice to run strand + assassins cowl. You can grapple melee to the enemies to regen health and go invisible briefly. Witherhoard to tick everything down and just keep circling. I used my super on the tormentors to burn them down quickly, and otherwise let witherhoard do literally all the work.

I used strand My weapons were Witherhoard, Doom of Chalkis and Retrofit. At beginning use i used witherhoard and used super on calus. Cleaned up the adds first spawned in. Soon as tormentor showed up, used witherhoard on calus and used Doom on Tormentor, when he got close I would use witherhoard and than used retrofit to burn the tormentor down. Rinse and repeat. I only took 1 set of adds down and used that are until calus did his darkness bomb or w/e its called. 2nd tormentor same thing, witherhoard, doom and when close spammed retrofit. During 2nd phase I kept flying off the ledge so I stopped using grapple. I just kept running/jumping away and shooting witherhoard at calus. When adds spawn in i just jump grapple them n melee kill them. When super came up, took him down. Took me 54 tries

Because Elden Ring sold 20 million copies. Trust me on this one haha.

There is a quick cheese to beat Calus. Look up on YouTube (the strat works on PC and console).

Strand Titan, Arbilest, Volt Shot SMG, Heavy GL. Use SMG to clear adds and Calus’ tracking missiles, use the catwalks to hide behind cover and whittle away at Calus with Arbilest, especially when he has over shields; Arby Will one shot his shield and give you bonus head shot damage. Use the catwalks to funnel adds to you and run away to another catwalk when he uses his AoE nuke. Use your super to clear Tormentors, if super isn’t available whittle away at his weak points with SMG then use heavy GL to clear them out. Your super should be back by the 3rd Tormentor. Phase two run like mad using grapple and burn through your heavy ammo. Use grapple more to get some distance and prep Arbilest for some head shots, maybe one or two, then grapple and run. Better safe than sorry, two head shots at the most and run. Rinse and repeat. With all that being said the fight is horse -blam!- and an unnecessary sharp uptick in difficulty.

2 RepliesYup, that one ranks right up there with duality final boss solo imo. So many things can go wrong on a run, but man that feeling when you finally do it is reserved for stupid solo stuff getting done…am I right?

Witherhoard for calus, doom of chelchis for incidiors, fire and forget (with chill clip) for tormentors. Super calus at the start. Then kill one platform of adds as they spawn. Stand there and damage calus to shield. Fire and forget tormentor. Witherhoard calus until second tormentor. Fire and forget again. Focus calus down to second phase. Witherhoard and just keep grappling away and let witherhoard tick him down. No point in stopping long enough to shoot anything else. He covers the distance between you in like 5 steps and if he hits you, you're pretty much knocked off the arena. Just witherhoard and swing away. Anarchy may work as well, but the tormentors take reduced damage if its not crits so a fusion with chill clip won't work as well.

Burn your super at the start to spawn the first tormentor. Then use heavy to clear ads and the tormentor - I died lmg for crit damage. Blinding grenades made ads simple. Save your second super for the Calus melee second phase. Burn it with super and heavy.

Remember Osiris training, now you know why. And yes, its very hard to beat.

Edited by jhermannITJ: 3/3/2023 8:21:55 PMIt's rough... imo, you have to kill the tormenters before 2nd phase... I used Sleeper based on a recommendation here on the forums... but it still took me like 5/6hrs just for legend Calus. A few tips, when in doubt rotate/circle... try to not kill all the adds... whittle them down to like 1/2 per side... this helps with the constant respawns. Only peek Calus... I moved from cover to cover whenever possible. Don't over damage him and spawn in both Ts at once. Don't Shoulder crit the Ts, they'll go berserk... when they're up rotate until you have a good angle, then head shots to nuke. They can get fairly close before you need to run. If you can kill both Ts in phase one, you just have psions and Calus to worry about in phase 2... and you can literally just run around in circles if you need to... needling Calus till he's dead. Good luck.

I burned super and at least half my heavy off the bat. Then spend the next part of the fight picking at him. Use witherhoard to break down his sheild. When he gets to second phase use grapple punch spam to stagger him. And just avoid tormentors. I think he starts to take damage during second phase so you can hide under the arena on the scaffolding until he dies. Just beware tormentors will try and get you. Just try and shift position slightly and they'll leave you alone.
