it’s just recognition of lazy story/character writing.
are there actually people that don’t like them because they’re non-binary? definitely.
is that the reason so MANY people hate them?
not even close. it was just terrible conception & execution. really the entire design of the Cloudstriders in general was.
just, so bad.

No, its far worse than that. The frivilous cartoonish 2-dimensional characters are simply out of keeping with the gravity of their station and also with Destiny. There's also massive, M -blam!- I V E double standards. In Destiny there has been a marked avoidance of anything s*xual, to the point of setting a -blam!- level. Female characters are firmly collared up to their chins, as fitting Amish people (and no disrespect to the Amish - just facts to their choice of lifestyle). They are de-s*xualized. Contrast that to what is essentially a G* fantasy figure - highly s*xualized. You would need anime-level Dead or Alive female characters to keep up with Nimbus. As Ive said, it would be unthinkable if the Striders were presented in similar fashion but were female. and theyd be complaints through the roof. Im all for inclusion, but not for double-standards, pushing and promoting a woke agenda, or exclusion. on the latter, there's little to no hetero relationships in the game, very little to none in the main story. Its been the love life of Osiris and Saint 14 as the backdrop to the entire WQ saga and now this for Lightfall.

I’ll be real with you, I’m playing a video game. Not once, did the thought of Nimbus’ -blam!- come across my mind. I don’t have time to worry about what the -blam!- preference of a character in a video game is, I got missions to complete.

4 RepliesEdited by LocoToopa: 3/3/2023 2:16:52 PMFrom what I have seen it certainly appears that the majority of hate for the character is from a bigoted perspective. It's just the classic - "Things I don't understand scare me so I'll use hatred for "the others" as a defense mechanism" Yawn...

Edited by Drogo_0716: 3/3/2023 5:08:31 AMI can’t get over how ridiculous it is that people are using pronouns for a -blam!- cyborg.

3 RepliesGod.. i miss cayde.

3 RepliesAnd of course I really love the part in the campaign when the witness says you fool no man can kill me now die and Nimbus rips off their helmet and says I'm no man and then proceeds to stab the witness in the face. so stunning and brave
-
1 ReplyI'd be offended if was was lgtb. The voice on that dude seems to have been made that way to identify him as a Trans character, and they added all the ridiculous lines and behavior. By far the character with the most cringe ever. Then people claim that players didn't like him because of whatever identity ect ect. No he's just a bad character.
-
I think it's just a sign of the times. A lot of people have just gotten tired of the overused "every line has to be a joke" MCU style of writing. Especially given the supposed context of the story. This is quite literally a "world ending" event we are going through and yet nobody seems to care outside of Osiris (and even he's pretty iffy about it). The Vanguard are just "well ya, oh well," Nimbus is cheery and lighthearted. Like, bruh, the Traveler is gonna die, humanity is going to end, the light is gonna fall (😉) and everyone is treating this like it's just another normal Tuesday. Standing round doing nada.
-
The voice is so annoying and the constant whining. Script is just horrible.

2 RepliesNimbus is a completely out of tone character, imho. His personality as character clashes with the situation the story tries to tell to the player and what is happening in the background scenario. Kinda like Cayde-6 being a commedian during the Red War but with the difference that we were used to Cayde-6 and he was not even remotely cringe as Nimbus. You may like Nimbus or not, find him cool or a cringe lord. Whatever. Point is that he was the wrong choice for this part of the story.

3 RepliesHe is very clearly a dude.

15 RepliesIt was very based of Bungie to make the worst, most insufferable character in Lightfall be the token LGBT character.
-
4 RepliesI bet they knew nimrod was a stupid npc so in the 11th hour made it lgb so that any and all hate that would inevitably come could be morphed into "gay bashing"
-
1 ReplyEdited by Vortex: 3/3/2023 10:48:12 AMEven my LGBTQ+ friends hate him, there is nothing about LGBTQ+, the character design is the worst in every way.
The end was the worst part for me where he just start to disrespect the death of Calus in front of Caitl, like, wtf?
Edited by ajpic: 3/3/2023 4:25:27 PMLiterally doesn’t matter to me at all. My biggest thing with nimbus is it’s the end of the world and he’s cracking jokes, the voice effect is horrible, and he had no screen time doing anything memorable. The way bungie spoke about the cloudstriders was like they’re this cool addition and they’re gonna be really integrated into the story. Rohan lasted all of 1 cutscene and he’s gone yet we’re supposed to care about him? Nimbus just sits on a surfboard the entire dlc and shows up to give me a fist bump at the end of the story like he did anything at all besides exist. Horrible and lazy writing
-
The entire campaign was a writing atrocity. Went through it myself last night and it’s not even meh or mid-tier, it’s just bad. The fact that I would see the word “exhausted” on my screen every time I was genuinely having fun just made it worse.

3 RepliesFirst off, I’ll just say I’ve always found this sort of thing a little strange. I’ve never felt once that it was my job to tell someone else how to perceive me and I wouldn’t much care for someone else to tell me the same. In most groups of people, your identity is your name, and people only really care if you’re an -blam!- or not. A pronoun is what someone ELSE uses to describe what they see when they look at you. That being said, I don’t care either way. It’s a non-issue to me. Dude is Nimbus. However, I have had a few occasions now where I don’t actually know who’s being referred to because someone will be talking about the vex, nanites, guardians, the traveler and the witness, and Nimbus and then be like “They are doing this”. And I’m like who, who is doing what? Perhaps it’s a failure on the writer’s part or maybe that the story is just so lackluster but I often find myself just making assumptions about what’s going on because I don’t know what the NPCs are talking about. And that does annoy me, the few times it’s happened. To me, “they” encompasses too much to be an individual identifier unless coupled with a name. “John went to the store, and they got some milk”. Instead, I see “Osiris is in the kitchen, trying to figure out how to cut strings. They smile at the guardian and wave goodbye”… but in that sentence They is referring to Nimbus. And it flows like thick mud.

4 RepliesI don’t like how the voice actor for nimbus keeps tweeting about farts it’s really uncomfortable No I’m not joking they had to delete a tweet about nimbus ripping absolute ham in a room with people in it

1 ReplyEdited by THA_3rd_GUY: 3/3/2023 2:21:30 PMThere are two big reasons we don't like him. First is his attitude. His dialogue is too laid back and comes off as surfer lingo. Which brings me to the next reason, the timing of his inclusion. Ever since Cayde died, Bungie has desperately been trying to fill the gap left by the comic relief. Even if it means making some characters behave out of character. The problem is with Lightfall being advertised as "The beginning of the end", a comic relief character is not very welcome.

10 RepliesEdited by QUIET: 3/3/2023 9:43:18 AMAll of that is just so silly. As if anybody would still push an ideology when the world is about to end. Think about it lmao typical Bungie
-
I could care less about “Their” preference lol, “They” are an adolescent and immature character that because of terrible writing is just plain distasteful. And to be completely honest “They” look more like a female body builder than a nonbinary character. My personal feelings on this issue are none conducive in this instance. I simply wish they wrote Nimbus much stronger and developed “Their” look more to coincide with “Their” identity (correct me if I’m wrong, nonbinary I’m not supposed to distinguish between male and female?). Also Rohan should have not been so easily dismissed. Would have loved to see the two of them go on together much more, like master and apprentice coming of age stuff. Cheers anyway :)
-
Honestly whenever he/she/it is speaking (how do you even refer to a non-binary person?) it just feels jarring. The voice feels....not right and while I get what they were getting at. But it just feels weird. It doesent ruin my day or anything but its not exactly my most favourite character either.
-
3 RepliesLGBT what now? If he was a fish-person, the opinion would be the same, written for 10 year olds.

I dislike the caricature do to the design and the back story is just bad do to having ether bad writing or just a bad concept from the development
it’s just recognition of lazy story/character writing
Yep. I found the story so bad, that I turned sound off on dialog during the first part of the first mission! Story quality and continuity make all the difference in the world. But even with a good story you absolutely must have exceptional writers. Thats why the Live Action Halo was such garbage. Why the Witcher spinoff sucked. Having truly excellent writing is the keystone holding everything else together. Without it, the whole thing falls apart. Respect your audience and deliver the best Writing you possibly can, add amazing unconstrained Artist vision and careful execution, then you get results like Arcane! --- All my complaints with Lightfall are about horrible amateurish writing, complete disregard for quality, and criminally negligent project leadership. As well as Bungie, taking that collection of clearly unfinished work, and selling it as 'premium' AAA game design. Worst thing of the whole deal? Bungie trying to sit their and Lie to our faces. Actually trying to tell us that any of this BS is as it should be. And then continuing their efforts to make 12 more abominations like this for Sony.

2 RepliesEdited by Fish: 3/3/2023 8:40:06 AMQueer here. Don't care for him. He should have been a foot note in the story. He's annoying. I don't think he's the greatest offense or example of hollow pandering yet though. Saint and Osiris get that award. What about their relationship as presented in game seems at all romantic. They're just comrades in arms. Weirdos are definitely latching onto his existence as another excuse to attack queer people. MODS. -blam!- PERMA BAN THEM. THEY DON'T CHANGE AND JUST COME BACK TO BE HATEFUL AGAIN WHEN THEIR SUSPENSION IS UP. STOP BEING -blam!-.
fist bump
