Nimbus is Jar Jar Binks of Destiny
And that’s not a compliment. By all means, none of this is bullying, so please do not flag me for anything.
The voice lines and the acting literally had me muting my game. After awhile, I didn’t even know who was talking because I didn’t even care for the dialogue. It was just so ruined for me (even while I had subtitles on)
I understand if the intention was for Nimbus to be written like a dork who was excited because he met people from basically another planet, but just let me throw in some observations that could be made real quick to just debunk any reason a character would react like this and sound so bad at doing so
Isn’t Nimbus already a super soldier? Like a hero to their own people? Why act star struck?
What’s there to be excited for when it comes to Nimbus’s character? The whole time I looked at Nimbus and heard Nimbus speak, I was just like please just stop. It was too corny. It was too cheesy. It was just like listening to bad writing and acting and I just wanted it to end.
I thought the reason Nimbus sounded like that was because of the augmentations, but then, I had to stop myself because why do I need to make an excuse for a character that was developed and portrayed terribly?
And there’s more: I had to stop playing because I just couldn’t take it anymore.
And I can understand if you’re writing for representation or if you’re writing for a character to come off annoying and “bad” like it was intentional, but I don’t think that was the case at all. This was the case of truly writing a completely terrible character. Nimbus shouldn’t be left in this in the game as is. Could things have been done better? Yes. And no, this isn’t a witch hunt for some voice actor, because it’s not just the voice acting that was bad, it was literally the entire character.
This was supposed to be Lightfall. People playing this game was supposed to actually feel something and after reading endless amounts of backlash of your players playing this entry into the game, the only thing that seems to be felt was poor decision making. Hopefully someone at Bungie steps up and a patch is made because this is inexcusable, especially for a entry this late into the series that’s supposed to set up a premise for the Final Shape. It felt like I was playing bootleg version of Lego Star Wars and I’m not just talking about bootleg in the sense of pirated stuff, I’m talking about this felt like a off brand version of Destiny 2, and that maybe I was in a fever dream.

I think when we learned more about how Cloud Striders are created it will become very clear why he acts this way. They only have a 10 year life span but somehow, Rohan looks very old. They obviously age at a different scale. It’s likely that Nimbus as a newbie is emotionally the equivalent of a 5 year old.. now replay the dialog seeing him as a giant 5 year old. The Veil seems to have been used to move these people between physical to non corporeal states. What happens when these non corporeal beings are jammed back into a physical body by the Veil?

How could you ever compare nimbus to jar jar my god that’s just not fair….to jar jar but at least nimbus only has a 10 year life span and no ghost so maybe we could lead him out back and put it/them out of theirs and our misery. Heck I’d pay for a dlc specifically about taking out nimbus

The worst part is that Nimbus sticks around for the rest of the game. Anytime you're on Neptune, you have to hear arguably the worst-written dialogue in D2.

You know the problem with jar jar wasn’t that he was corny, right? That’s not what it means to be the jar jar binks or something. It’s fine to not like a character but there’s nothing racist about Nimbus.

My only gripe is that the story itself is going nowhere. Bungie clearly decided to pad out the content and space it out to release an additional expansion instead of having this year as the final BANGER year of the Light and Dark saga. I guess when you don't have many plot points to get through, you put more focus on characters, so...
