What's so wrong with easy mode?

I don't understand why they have to make the game harder for everyone. Games have had difficulty modes from Child friendly to absolutely impossible for generations now and I don't see why Destiny has to be any different. If you find the game too easy, pick a harder difficulty. If you find it too hard, pick an easier difficulty. It's that simple. As long as it doesn't negatively impact other players. As for incentive, it's called risk/reward. You want to play on easy just to enjoy the story? Sure, but you won't get much loot. To be honest, if your playing on easy, you probably don't care for it. You want better loot? Then you need to push yourself harder. You want to push yourself to the limits and have a feeling off accomplishment after beating an insane challenge? Go for the hardest difficulty there is. Bungie has said they basically have a difficulty slider. Let us use the whole scale. Why should any player care if another player is playing on an easier mode? They ain't better than you and they ain't getting better loot than you so it doesn't affect you. Hell, I'd love to see old raids get an easy mode as a sort of practice mode for new players, just don't have any raid loot. Or any loot. You don't have to reward players for playing on easy but don't cut those players out altogether, they're not hurting anyone.

  • Too many players here expect the most rewards for minimum effort. Countless post of players complaining they dont get nightfall drops from hero nightfalls. It is examples like that prove players need to up their skill and challenge for the better of the community.

    It doesn’t matter. It’s Bungies game and they want to make the changes. They do what they think is in the best interest and overall health of D2. No one’s played any of the changes yet either. If it’s ridiculously hard they’ll scale it back. The drama over high end activity becoming more challenging is absurd. Most of the game will be in line with our stronger builds. Never have I seen men fold like old cafeteria chairs over a video game. It’s Bungies game and we are along for the ride.

    • The irony is thinking Destiny has ever been "hard". When they claim they are raising the "difficulty" of Destiny, what that really means is it's about to become tedious and annoying.

      • The easy things in the game are barely changing. Strike playlist is only getting a modifier that will give you slightly better rep gains if you kill enemies and you might actually need to look at shield types now. Seasonal Battlegrounds and other Heroic-level content are putting you at a tiny disadvantage. -5 power is barely anything. Most of not all enemies will take the same shots to kill. The only time you start hitting changes would be when you start running legend tier content and up. The only thing I can see people being legitimately upset about is the Legend Lost Sectors becoming more annoying to grind so fewer new players get the armor, but Bungie said that there are going to be new ways to get the new armor anyways. They’re not even touching base raids. Legend should not be easy like it is now in most activities. Slight increases to difficulty at that level are welcome. But above all else, wait and see. We won’t exactly know how much harder it’s going to be until Tuesday. Either try it for yourself then and make a judgment, or wait for someone you trust to play and give honest feedback to you.

      • OP: spot on! 👍 I don’t feel powerful at all…in any mode, whether PvP or PvE. Recently, I completed two seals that had been nearly done for ages; one required psiOps legend clears, the other - kill 40 brigs in a team; oh, and a one was vox obscura on legend - for the catalyst. PsiOps L runs: had to LFG for this…it took quite a few runs to achieve due to quitters bailing (mostly)…but no way did I feel powerful at any stage. In fact, we barely managed it, when we did do it. I’m sure my two other teammates would say the same. And, yes, our light levels were 1600+ and we had all the toys and mods equipped. Kill 40 brigs: again, had to LFG this…without success…due to quitters bailing, which, I can’t fault them for, as the requirement to be in a team + the amount of time between crux convergent spawns was too long and too unpredictable. In the end, I figured a work-around and got it done. Vox Obscura L for catalyst: I had to do the 4 msgs triumph too, so I ran several normal runs for that, and to familiarise myself with the mechanics. Again, LFG was needed…and again, so many quitters bailed…it got beyond a joke tbh. Then, on a last chance run - on normal, as I just wanted to get the 4th msg triumph done, a div. 1 player joined, and we got talking…and I told him about what I was after and what had passed, so, whilst waiting for a third player to join, he said change the run title from normal to legend. Did that. Player 3 joined…and off we went… To say we breezed it would be incorrect, though we did get it done, and at a fair clip; this was mostly due to the Div. 1 player doing all / most of the heavy lifting. We other two did our bits too, and when all seemed lost, one of us was able to clutch it and res the other two! So, mission accomplished! In the PvE runs outlined above, not once did I feel overpowered…mostly, overwhelmed - by OP red- and yellow bar enemies…never mind the too OP bosses and Champions. That’s just how it was for me. In PvP: my guns fire popcorn and party streamers, and my armour is akin to tissue wrap. The things that kill me the most are the absolute opposite of my weapons and abilities are able to do, eg, OHKs from out of nowhere; shot through walls and around corners; shot dead before the enemy has even arrived; domed by a single round from any weapon type from across the map; killed in my super by a melee or one or two sidearm shots; etc. I could go on but you get my drift, I’m sure. The Invincibles - that special band of warriors who never miss and who are able to withstand a full magazine of virtually any weapon at virtual point blank range, and who appear to bend the Laws of Space Magic…yeah, them! As for the incredible OHKs and shooting skills and movement capabilities and other space magic skills of many U-tubers - I can but marvel. 😉 So, no, I don’t feel powerful at all. 🫤 Anyhoo, just my 2d worth.       • Because d2 difficulty is child friendly basically everywhere. Even in raids, ennemies are stupid, weak, and comes by waves if 4...5... Enough to just spawnkill adds...since you one shot them and they dont damage you enough. Same for strikes...patrols...dungeons...and any content in the game. Even adds in gm's just stands still while eating bullets and missing shots.

        • Whats wrong with easy mode is that its boring and the enemies dont even have a chance to fight back. The highest modes have been a cakewalk for years and it doesnt have anything to show for them. Most Weapons from the helm are better then most raid weapons. Almost every piece of content gives you s tier armor. We had the best loot dropping everywhere for years. The game getting harder is not a bad thing. The thing is that bungie is making a new mod system to make buildcrafting easier and they want the people to use it. From what i have seen most people dont make the slightest attempt to make somewhat of a build. They dont try to improve. They stick to what they do. Refuse to lfg and call themself "solo players" This aint a singleplayer game. Blame everything on streamers and "the sweats" Even tho these people care the most and want whats best for the game. If you cant handle a slight bump in difficulty and end up in a dumpter in the neomuna alleyways its on you because the tools are here.

            • Nothing is wrong with it. They just want their game to be less brain-off which it is currently. Also adding an easy mode raid with no loot would be pointless. Next to nobody is going to want to do all that for no loot.

            • Nothing is wrong with it. Just don't expect to get anything major as a reward. I honestly like the even playing field concept for a new dlc. Especially with how lightfall is making itself out to be campaign wise. Just like the red war but synthwave

            • I had this conversation with someone else earlier this evening. The problem I foresee with the difficulty option is that some people, and I'll reiterate some, will immediately jump on the forum to complain about how the good gear is "gated" behind a higher challenge level and that it's unfair. I'm not pointing fingers or anything, it's just that such posts are already seen on the forums now. I personally don't object to the idea, it's just how things seem to consistently shake out.
