Having to use certain elements and weapons to be viable for content completely counter act the changes you made for no more match game, and the “leaning into build crafting” that you are adding. Having to use certain elements and weapons isn’t fun and dictates your player identity, I love using auto rifles I have pvp and pve auto rifles but having to switch off of them to deal with a champion or now just to be optimal in game, sucks.
Every weapon type should have a path towards victory in different ways that reward certain play styles, but having a definitive “this weapon” and “this element” all the time, gets rid of the point of build crafting. I was very excited for builds and I still am hopeful, I just hope these changes don’t negate one of the best features being added to the game.

I don’t think it’ll limit builds at all. Performance and optimization? That could be the better argument, but the builds will still be fine as is. I still expect Starfire protocol to shred regardless of whatever surge exists.
-
3 RepliesI'm willing to bet we end up seeing the surge stuff getting nerfed because "too many people are using it/high usage rates"
-
The only limit is you
-
It’s literally not going to impact build crafting in anyway. Just because something is better doesn’t mean all other options are useless. I’ll still run arc hunter and titan next season without a problem
-
How is this system any more restrictive than the singes we have now? If anything it’s less restrictive as many activities have multiple Surge types, an overcharge weapon (so you get a damage bonus no matter what damage type), and every activity with an overcharge weapon also allows every gun you pick an anti-champ mod for to be overcharged too. It’s practically 3x the variety than we have right now with the singe/burn system. The only place this will be any more restrictive than it is currently will be in Master Raids…

not really, you can play normal without the EXTRA damage you get from overcharge or surge buffs,

Edited by chickengoujohn93: 2/23/2023 11:49:30 PMWell, if people refrained from preordering Lightfall+Annual Pass on the premise of a cinematic reveal trailer back in August 2022 then maybe, just maybe, real changes and player feedback could have been implemented in an attempt to sell and market Lightfall. A wild phenomenon. TLDR: vote with your wallets

34 RepliesThe funny thing is, we never complained about the original version of this in D1. These modified used to be things like Small Arms, massively beneficial and actually made this ridiculously fun to engage with. Enemies weren't tuned to expect that we were engaging with them so you didn't HAVE to change anything if you didn't want to. I can't be the only one -blam!- being stoked to play the game when the stars aligned and we got a combo like "Specialist, Airborne, Arc burn", me and my buds would spend the evenings hopping through the playlist with 4th horseman, just deleting everything we came across. Bosses would topple in literal seconds. It was fun! Now however, Bungie is buffing the enemies to counter the modifiers, making it so it's more a necessity to run matching equipment, instead of a fun choice. Even beyond that they are limiting the choices on a season by season basis, because, that makes sense, only having access to half of our elemental repertoire for an entire season...

22 RepliesYeah the amount of micromanaging in destiny is what kills the fun for me. I just want to play how I want to. I don't mind things being more challenging but being tied to specific weapons and subclasses is 🤢
-
12 RepliesI mean, technically more weapons will be getting a damage boost in the new system than the current one Right now, only weapons/abilities that match a Singe/Burn get a boost In the new system, weapons that will get a boost include : - Weapons that match the Surge Element - Weapons that have Anti-Champ capabilities through the Seasonal Artifact - Weapon types chosen to specifically have a bonus in that activity - Kinetic Weapons whenever your Subclass matches a Surge Now, how all this shakes out next week is unknown, with both enemies getting meatier in certain activities and more level capping being added. But there's going to be a lot of boosted damage going around
-
2 RepliesPeople who think you HAVE to match the surge/overcharge to complete an activity are going to have a hard time.
-
3 RepliesI am guessing u don’t understand how build crafting works or how to build craft
-
3 RepliesOut of the 16 builds I currently alternate between only 3 will be affected, the other 13 builds are neutral builds that can go between any subclass at any time. So no, it won’t limit my build crafting.
-
use the gun I say says bungie. No soup for you. Build crafting needs to be removed. This is a FPS.
-
2 RepliesThe fact that you will have to have at least one weapon that matches the Surge and one that matches the overcharge make build limited. If Surge Is Strand, I'm highly confident it will be just like Stasis, Primary and Heavy weapons only. So let's say you take Quicksilver for the Surge. Then Overcharge is Heavy Machine guns.. You now have a Nerf to your damage in the special slot. I say Nerf because you'll be getting a 25% buff for Surge and OC. Leaving your Special at normal damage. So why use the special?
-
Play your way.... NOT 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
-
We got. Glaives. Smg. Auto. Sidearm. Sword. Pulse. Bow. And EVERY strand void and solar weapon and if you use the correct subclass EVERY kinetic weapon as usable weapons. So only stasis and arc will do 25% less if they are scouts or snipers or nade launchers/rockets.
-
I scratched my head at that nonsense. Like...what's the purpose of removing match game and increasing how we can build...if we are gonna be bottlenecked into using what they want us to use? It's like they don't think with their brains anymore lol.
-
Edited by CORPERATE COMMANDER: 2/24/2023 4:24:48 PMIt's almost like bungie is the reason for power creep and limiting build options as usual 😆
-
4 RepliesI'm still not clear on how these interactions work either. For example, it seems like if someone made me radiant, then my weapon will suddenly become Armour Piercing for Barriers while I'm radiant. But what happens with weapons that have intrinsic perks (like Monarque which is Overload)? Does it not affect them or does it suddenly become a Barrier weapon? And what happens when you have multiple buffs going at the same time, like Radiant with Void Barrier overshield for example. Does that mean I can stun Unstoppables and pierce Barriers at the same time? The way it's explained is confusing, and it seems it require a lot more co-ordination to get things done.
-
4 RepliesIts lazy developers instead of mixing up the sandbox every 3 months or so, we get "you have to use this weapon and or, element every 3 months!" Pure laziness!
-
They have consistently for years now forcefully limited build crafting for higher tier content. This might just now make it the entire game…..ugh
-
Well, that's Bungie. One step forward and two back.
-
5 RepliesBungie philosophy: We see too many people playing only with the weapons that they want to use. We want to change that. So we are going to require that you use only the weapons that we want you to use.
-
No it won't. Quit being dramatic.
