Increased difficulty but not the loot incentives or drop rates?

I understand making the game harder but destiny at its core is a looter shooter so what’s the point in making everything harder if you aren’t going to increase the loot incentives or drop rates? People play the game for loot not challenge. I’ll use master nightfall as an example. Making it a -20 only to have an uncommon chance at exotics and the rotating weapon? Not worth it to me now that you can’t level past it to make it easier. That’s why I only play Gms over master difficulty as the drop rates are guaranteed and the loot is much better. I personally am not a fan of artificial difficulty by forcing a forced -x level. Especially after years of bullet sponges I was hoping for something different as shooting spongy enemies isn’t fun for me. I would rather the difficulty be from stuff thrown into the match acting like a monkey wrench. For example the splinter mines in warden of nothing or raid style mechanics. But that’s just me. Best way to make the game engaging is to give us new enemy types and new challenges instead of making everything tankier or overusing old mechanics.

        • Exotics and the NF weapon are both common drops at Master difficulty. It says so when you hover over it.

              • I agree. Loot should be upped. Inb4 the "Bungie listens to fans by increasing the loot table. They are the best developers for fixing issues they create." fanboy posts. To be fair, people have been saying that leveling up your character is not content for 3 years now. And now bungie is making those levels pointless. Removing the need to grind XP and pinnacle gear.                 • I don't really like always being at a disadvantage, it kinda makes a lot of things pointless. An incentive to play is to become stronger to take on harder content and make things easier for yourself. I like that, with enough time and effort, I can get above an activities difficulty level and conquer it utterly. I don't really want to sweat my balls off on lower level content every single time, I don't want my guns to take 3 mags to kill a dreg, I don't want to be one shot because I dared to peak at a champion.

                  • That's the problem it's not strategic difficulty it's artificial pseudo-difficulty. It's also the product of a polarization of haves and have-nots, that the haves are bored and swimming in easy, superior loot and materials. Meanwhile the highest current difficulty they've set up, with matchmaking has not been worth EVER doing due to ultra low, probably 1 in 10 runs chance of a mere non-Adept drop. Bad system. This has only made it worse and more polarized - richer get richer more bored and demand it's worse for others and the poor get poorer.

                    • I'm already not engaging with 95% of the activities they mentioned, making them harder for no reason isn't going to get me to engage. I've done all the hard stuff in this series history, and had great fun doing it. But there's a time and place for difficulty, and power capping you across the board ain't it. If that's the plan, get rid of levelling altogether (which I don't want, levelling is one of the only things I do bother to do every season). This is such a weird set of changes. Do they think endgame players are going to be giddy to play strikes because they are under delta? -blam!- gives even a quarter of a -blam!- about strike scoring? Strike score gives you a higher rank multiplier... hmmm, so in Bungie talk, baseline is being kept behind a score system now, and you might get a cherry on top if you try weawy hawd in da stwike pwaywist. All this for what? Better rewards? How? Changes like this are so obnoxious. I get that much of the game is too easy for some, but instead of those players handicapping themselves, why are we changing the entire game around them? Why aren't we just giving them the difficulty selections they want, instead of just smothering the whole game with this crap?

                      • Basically all old content is getting harder as “new” content is hard for Bungie. Making old content harder is not making old content “ newer”. A very old saying from my grandmothers time…You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.

                        • First off, this all total bulls%&*t. Why the hell are we grinding to plus 1800 if light level isn't going to matter anymore. This might be a break it moment for me. This game already had gm's and Master raids for really challenging content. I don't need it for freaking strikes lol. They lost their mind. +20 under for master now. 15 for legend. Lol. You can't make this crap up.

                          • Honestly, I haven't done a deep dive into the post just yet. I watched a YouTube video about it and what bewildered me the most was the fact that the person in the YouTube video seem to be completely on board with all of the changes mentioned. Meanwhile on my end I'm thinking to myself "Just how out of touch can bungie really be?". I don't recall ever asking to be handicapped in most activities. What the heck is with the weekly rotation during this next season not including Arc subclasses? What is with the paragraph that has now become infamous for mentioning activities needing to be more rewarding and then finishing the paragraph with saying they made them more challenging instead? As a more casual player I am in agreement with a majority of the community. I like to log on to destiny and feel good about the builds that I made. That entails being able to utterly decimate enemies in some activities. I understand not being able to go in and blow everything away in a grand master nightfall. But if I want to go into strikes and shut my brain off for a while I should be able to do that and it sounds like they are taking that option away from me. Insert obligatory "Where is the incentive to play?" question. End rant.

                            • Hopefully Bungie will see how overwhelmingly negative this whole thing is and go back after seeing how few players will be left after these changes. It's Sunsetting all over again.

                              • A big reason things aren’t a challenge in D2 is cause we’ve ran the same things over and over for years. In GM’s especially. We know where the champions spawn. We know the boss room strategy cause we have ran it so often. If there was more randomisation it would spice things up and make it more of a challenge. But with it should come loot. Which I whole heartedly agree with. Even GM loot isn’t that good. Sure, an adept weapon. But exotic armour rolls are usually around the 60 mark in stats and even with a ghost mod. Never have the roll you want

                              • They need to scrap the power system as it's no longer fit for purpose and start from scratch with the most basic of basic, matchmade activities with difficulties being Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, Master. You won't have to worry about levelling, anyone can try a Master level activity it will just be super super super hard.

                                • “ THeY MaDe tHe ChAnGe fOr tHe sTrEAmers”🙄 Admittedly they should improve drop chances slightly if they are gonna make Destiny more challenging going forward. Raid like mechanics is also a welcoming change. I agree with you. ( turns away from the author of this post to address the blueberries below) HOWEVER, y’all sound hella silly on this thread. God forbid y’all have to play with a bit of brain cells in the lower/ mid difficulties an not just run into a pack of ads in a few days. Stop using the fact that you have a family and a 9 to 5 as an excuse to get better at the game. I have a 9 to 5 that leaves me exhausted some days but that hasn’t stopped me from improving from a casual in taken king to carrying first timers in raids and dungeons as the years went by.

                                • Sadly I’m predicting an exodus of ‘casual’ gamers after the campaign for Lightfall. How many players have even finished the season pass level this season? I’ll agree the upper level of difficulty hasn’t felt as ‘hard’ since 3.0’s… which are getting adjusted with ability uptime/stat adjustments. Those adjustments will probably feel welcome. Anecdotally, my brother plays destiny and he flat told me last week that if the season ending mission was the new ‘base’ difficulty, his playtime would go down drastically

                                  • This ain’t gonna go well if drop rates and RNG aren’t dealt with. Making the activities sweatier and stressful without providing better rewards is just going to increase burnout. As it is there’s no excuse for anyone running a raid more than ten times and not getting the raid exotic. Lost sectors should be dropping unearned exotics no later than every five clears on Legendary and every three on Master. It should literally be raining enhancement cores so people have a path to build craft against the increased challenge. High stat exotics should also regularly drop from core playlists randomly so that new and returning players have a realistic path to develop strong builds - think one exotic per two or three hours of playtime. We’ve already seen how bad Crucible sucks without a proper loot incentive where playing real people in any mode is challenging. TL;DR the loot drop rates have to be commensurate with the difficulty. If not, get wrecked.
