Before you commit, yes I know bungie said we are the 1st to use strand in a vidoc, but hear me out.
Ir Halak is known as the unraveler and can cut the fabric of space and time while her sister is the weaver who take the threads unraveled by her sister and weaves them into reality.
To me, this sounds a lot like bungies description of strand and even uses similar terminology. Could be coincidence, but I'd also like to point out that during the boss encounter with them, we see a lot of green soul fire. This is a little interesting as strand is a similar shade of green. So it could be that that wasn't soul fire, but was actually strand and because we had yet to become aware of this new energy, we perceive it as soul fire.

10 RepliesDarkness powers are kinda odd. Like Stasis came from the Song of Elsa of Arendelle. Later, it was known as Frozen. It was before the collapse from the land of Disney and then later on harnessed and copy/pasted by Darkness and turned into Stasis. Strand is also similar, in that it’s origin is before the collapse. It originated in the land of Marvel from this young fellow by the name of Peter Parker. Also known as the Spiderman. That’s where all the swinging and suspend abilities that you now see in Strand came from. But the Darkness also discovered the powers of the Green Goblin, the archenemy of Spiderman. Knowing it’s evil preoccupation, the Darkness also harnessed the Green Goblin’s abilities and then combined it together with the Spiderman powers and made Strand. That’s why you get a green Spiderweb in Strand and green exploding enemies when hit by Strand because of this fusion of two opposing powers and abilities from Spiderman and Green Goblin. It was named Spidergreen, but the Darkness settled for Strand. Powerful stuff.

2 RepliesEdited by Gibbon, the Ape Defector: 2/11/2023 12:46:37 PMI ran into a super interesting lore post about hive magic a long time ago that basically described the chemistry of hive magic, which is crazy that that's even possible haha. But put very simply, the green color of soulfire can be created by the resultant material after organic matter is drained of its electrons. So it turns out that the green-ness of soulfire actually summarizes the sword logic if you understand it. I have to add, how cool is that?? So whether strand is related to soulfire/hive magic is going to depend on what fuels the power of strand. Powers of darkness are an umbrella term for various passions that can become dangerous, the sword logic being one example. Survival of the fittest, being a stark, but key, aspect of ecosystems, became a force of mass destruction and an addiction to sadism once it was put into action by the wormgods. I have a feeling that strand is going to be along a different vein than hive magic because it doesn't have anything to do with "drinking the blood of your enemies to feed you"; instead, it doesn't seem to be a self-centered power at all. So far. It might be once we see some lore though, so who knows? Strand looks like it took some inspiration from String Theory, which is a theory of universal physics that tries to concisely explain the nature of the components that make up atoms. Since it's such an esoteric subject, that leaves a ton of room for interpretation on the nature of the power, so it'll be very interesting to see what it's all about.

2 RepliesThe Hive connection is very plausible. I would just add that it applies to all Deathsingers even before Ir Halak and Ir Anuk. The Deathsong in itself might be the direction connection to the unraveling. We also know there's a song of life though so I wonder how that ties in... Nice theory!

8 RepliesFirst weeb Game of Thrones/ Spiderman nerds. Cool🤮

It’s like energy. The hive would be like ancient humans, creating basic machines that they understand, but they don’t understand the concept of electrons transferring between atoms to make those machines work. The guardian would be like modern humans, creating machines based off of the idea of electrons transferring between atoms.

4 RepliesHive magic is just a relatively clumsy mechanism for channeling Strand. Guardians will likely be the first to directly channel Strand through our bodies, instead of externally focusing it using runes.
-
3 RepliesYou disprove your idea though, as you said They cut the fabric of space and time. Strand has nothing to do with space and time. It’s about connecting minds. Space and time is the domain of the material universe, which stems from Creation. The Light. Strings of space and time manipulated by Hive magic, which is green, makes sense. It’s not a subtle hint about strand. These two characters lore was written before Strand existed. Superficial similarities are not evidence of anything. I see this cropping up often.

I agree with this but Bungie have gone on record to say we are the first people to use strand.

2 RepliesEdited by StuntBear14: 2/9/2023 10:37:00 PMHonestly, the concept of an energy or strands that flows through all things is widely used and is sometimes vague. Take the Light and Darkness for example, or the Force, or any other cheesy magic. Its more likely that the hive weren't using strand, and that Bungie wrote that before making or even thinking of Strand(which they did). Bungie wrote it into the story just because it sounded cool.

6 RepliesThe Hive seem to have some sort of connection to strand, as things like this have applied to other hive. Also, since Eris got Acolyte eyes, she said she sees green webs connecting everything together. Since there are no hive in lightfall, maybe since Osiris was possessed by Savy, that's how he knows about it.

I feel like your theory is correct. As the hive can cut into space/time and use the very fabric of reality to create their ascendant planes. Which in terms is similar if not identical to strand. I believe lore wise we are in fact the first species to use strand as Bungie stated. But as you said, the idea of strand lore wise wasn’t present and was only seen as hive magic.

If you look closely at strand, there are hive glyphs woven into the energy tendrils of the abilities
