It's been a few years since bungie vaulted the red war campaign and yet this location still has dialog tied to the red war.
Outside of random seasonal stories, there isn't a solid reason to keep nessus. I mean it's a random backwater planetoid.
If they chose to bring back siva, I could see keeping the destination since exodus black has it on board and they did make a siva variant of the exodus crash. However this likely won't happen since bungie released a blog and mentioned they had no plans for sivas return.
If I was a new player, I'd have little idea what's going on since there is dialog from a character who doesn't exist anymore and there is no real description of what's the vendors deal since that was also tied to the red war.
I feel like the only reason they kept Nessus is because there are 3 strikes and some battlegrounds tied to it, so this would hurt the vanguard ops. Also I believe bungie kept it because it was one of the few Y1 locations that they made and not highnoon or vicarious visions studios as they seemed to have vaulted every location made by those studios.
Personally, I'd like to see them vault nessus (after a quest to plant failsafe in a tower frame, because I know there are a lot of failsafe fans out there) and either replace it with the full leviathan as a patrol zone plus bring back updated versions of the raids/lairs or bring back the dreadnought and strikes tied to it.

The Vanguard has to figure out how to move Failsafe off of Nessus. She's literally the closest thing to comic relief we have left. R.I.P Cayde.

4 RepliesEdited by Sol, The Architect Mind: 2/10/2023 1:23:29 PMSiva is coming back though... Plus it has vast importance on the overall story. A symmetrical AI. A garden planet transformed by the vex. Edit: Bungie can misdirect, Warmind will reconnect.

3 RepliesFailsafe is bae that's why. 😍

1 ReplyOne could argue the same thing about the Dreaming City, or even the EDZ at this point. But I'd still hate to see them go. I wish kept Titan...as useless as it was even back then...it was unique.

2 RepliesNessus is only there because it holds about half the strike playlist. That's all.

Edited by Hippo: 2/9/2023 3:53:22 PMA place for Xur to show off his climbing skills Also siva not coming back at all they confirmed this the other day, has no place in the story anymore, there's even a rumor on d2leaks that wrath won't be the retuning raid later in the year, which if true means it's either crota, leviathan, scourge or crown. I'd be disappointed with crota but leviathan I could live with I do miss that raid.

Failsafe. One of the last few characters left with personality who provide decent comedic relief.

2 RepliesThe only reason Nessus is still in the game is because it’s a huge play space. That’s about it. Other than it’s size, it’s honestly the most boring out of the original Red War locations.

To house the most annoying and bipolar vendor in D2.

1 ReplyIf they vault it, the game might likely break again, I guess

1 ReplyThey also said they were done with the exo stranger to make her return “more surprising”

2 RepliesPeople say "it's there for the strike playlist". There are currently 18 strikes in rotation (including the battlegrounds). 5 of them are on Nessus (Inverted Spire, Insight Terminus, Exodus Crash, Proving Grounds, and the battleground). Removing them would leave 13 strikes, plus whatever strikes are added in Lightfall. I definitely think the playlist could survive without Nessus.

An example of poor long term planning.

How about, I get to keep what I pay for instead? I understand what your saying, but instead of removing it, let's just make it better!

13 RepliesSo why don't they delete the entire game? Is that what you want?

1 ReplyPersonally I like Failsafe's voice, attitude, and mentality. Figures I'd find the perfect woman... As a computer... In a fantasy game. Oh Karma... Why do you hate me so? Lol

1 ReplyI get what you’re saying but the problem is that that Nessus presently holds the majority of ops content if they vault it’ll put another playlist on life support, they could account for this by adjusting a handful of seasonal story missions into strikes: last mission of season of the lost, operation Delphi from splicer could both work work with minimal adjustment. They could also unvault ogre strike from D1 and maybe the temple of oryx one too but honestly they should just do those things anyway it would certainly help diversify the playlist

13 RepliesKeeping the memory of Cayde alive, since I doubt many care about the other two as much.

2 RepliesXur. Bungie is probably afraid that putting Xur somewhere else would break the game again.

4 RepliesThe purpose of Nessus is to be an area that Xur can visit on the weekends.

Aesthetics.

If we don't have Nessus we don't have Nessus Peanut butter cups or Nessus Pieces..
