Iron Banner matchmaking is not working

I know bungie said they were slowly removing freelance nodes cause of better matchmaking, but it seems like nothing has actually changed. If anything, it might have actually gotten worse

  • 3+ resets. No stacks, majority are close games, some bigger margins once in a while, and a mercy sprinkled in every couple hours. Seems like it's working to me.

      Bungie and Matchmaking should not exist in the same sentence without the word "can't" between them. Simple solution... SBMM or they will see IB start to get the same numbers as Trials, especially with the trash rep system they are doing. No casual solo player wants to team against a 6 stack of highly coordinated try-hards. It is also far from rewarding. Half the time you get the same crap perk on the weapons. I kept trying to get a good Dark Decider but kept getting "offhand strike". Although I do have to admit I was not getting completely dumped on. I get the advantage of CBMM for games with weak developers, but if you have good developers SBMM does not slow things down. I still say CBMM was a move to make streamers happy. Many of the reviews I see comment how Bungie has lost touch with the players and I see that quite often in their notes/announcments/patches/twabs.

      They can't do it better because they have no good specialists. Any company could already solve that problem, especially if you have so much feedback as Bungie. Why those people still work in Bungie is a big question.

    • Literally everything about this seasons IB has culminated into the worst IB experience I’ve had since the launch of this franchise.

    • I feel like part of the issue is many of us are forced into using weapons and subclass we simply don't want to which then slows the game down. Matchmaking can be all over and in general wasn't as horrible as it could be. The win rate won't change or bungie wouldn't allow it to change. They want 50% win rate for everyone because nobody likes to loose often.

      • Best crucible experience so far as a solo player. 95% of the playerbase can’t cap B at start and LOVES to lose but it’s not Bungie’s fault.

        • The games are either great feeling or completely suck and no where in between. I don't really care if I win or lose, I just want the game to feel good. I've bailed on a couple of games where I got cheated out of 2or 4 kills, that's not worth the aggravation. If this is SBMM why does the lobby balancing suck? I look on destinytracker and most of my games are 70-80% one way.

          I convinced friends to play again after a year hiatus. We play IB and it matches us with players who play exclusively trials and my friends quit again. Can someone help me understand why you are forcing people into those types of games after not playing for a year?

        • I played till legend and the only thing I noticed was stricter sbmm. I went to destiny tracker and confirmed this to be correct from the average lobby kd data. Stacks or no stacks doesn't matter when it's this laggy.

          • I just went 47-0, second-most captures, most zone defenses by far, and lost by 6 points lmfao ... I guess I should destroyed more turrets ... this game -blam!- sucks.

          • I imagine the population for IB is incredibly low this week, considering how trash the mode is and the fact that lots of players are probably focusing on other things to get ready for Lightfall. Low population always equals bad matchmaking.

            I have had more issues today with matchmaking. I run solo and I’ll face a 3 man team and lag is so bad I can’t even shoot. Literally pull trigger and nothing happens. Can’t shoot or throw grenade or dodge. Just move and jump. Or my team starts missing 1-2 people and 2 mins goes by before we get anyone. Or it’s all solos against two 2-3 man teams. Every time I lose those matches. But when I win it’s usually by 30-50 with one or two close ones. Seems Bungie is making it so you will lose to keep you at 50/50 or 60/40 wins.

            • 3 resets plus and finished with 12 game win streak all as solo. I don’t understand why players are complaining. Save supers and grenades for turret encounters and man a Titan if possible they’re the best class for this IB. 😀

              • Bungie's SBMM would have to take a HUGE leap in order to account for loadouts. SBMM is not smart enough to know when the best player in the lobby is on your team but is doing the Ticuus catalyst or some other catalyst that requires PVP kills with an awful PVP weapon.

              • I've had up and down personal success, but I've noticed me and one other person are the only one's going for objectives while everyone else is either AFK or just kamikazing their way to the enemy spawn point for easy kills

              • They shouldn't remove freelance coz it's a good option for solo players. Bungie are good at removing choice for players these days. If removing it is better for MM then Bungie should make MM better for freelance rather than taking the easy way out and cancelling it.

              • They make FBMM and IT WORKS. FBMM is just for one thing: More euqal stacks agains each other to get freelance out of the game. We tried every size of stacks from just 1 to 6 people. Nearly every match we met the same size of stacks and sometimes the enemy stack had 1 guardian more or less. Idk what people here think. They act like FBMM = SBMM and think they should win more matches. You have a winrate around 40-50% in IB no matter which season I look at. If you ask me that is more than you can ask for.

              • I'm on rank 12 of my second reset, trying to get that shader. I've been solo the whole time and mostly I've been qued into teams with other solo players. If I've been in a lopsided match I usually check to see the stack and it's a complete scramble. I've been pleasently surprised to see that most of my matches have been pretty competitive. I'm holding onto a 1.17 KD, and this is the first week I've played PVP this season. The new armor looks sweet and I got my helmet FINALLY. Pretty pleased with Iron Banners new mode. Feels like control but with the drop pod mechanic there's alot of potential to rally from behind. Claiming the spot while both fireteams converge in complete chaos is a fun challenge and allows for some awesome multi-kills. I just wish I'd have started this last time around so I didn't have to grind IB non stop instead of doing something else.

                Opposite for me solo q the whole event. I admit I do not fully understand how the final score works, because the final score board was confusing, but most of my games seemed relatively close. Hardly met any stacks, and when I did the games still felt balanced. Even the lag was fine, except for the rare teleporter, lol I played a lot too, I was enjoying myself so just kept playing, so this is not just a few games, see my count below. Got the shader Titan 26W/17L Warlock 18W/22L I acknowledge your experience has been negative, I don't know why it's so different for me and many others
