Should I even buy Lightfall?

Let me preface this by saying this isn't D2 slander. So I've been playing Destiny since Dark Below and I've stuck with the game through all of the dark times, and only ever took minor breaks when I had finished all I could do in Destiny. However recently this season (S19) I just found no reason to keep playing after like the third week of the season. Nothing really felt fun in the game anymore and so I went and started playing other games. During this time however I had had LightFall Deluxe pre-ordered cause I was initially hyped as we all usually are upon seeing that first trailer. Now though I'm on the fence about even ordering it at all because once I finish the story content (campaign, strikes, etc.) im worried it'll just be like every other DLC recently and the content will be grossly lacking. I'm not even gonna go into the pvp discussion but basically what I'm asking is, is it even worth it to come back to this game or should I just move on?

  • I’ll give you my worthless two cents. I’ve been playing this game since vanilla destiny. I love it for these reasons but this is the big one.The guardians i’ve met on the way. It could be a week, maybe a month, we are ALL on and its nice to get together. I know for that one week or month it will be THE BEST week or month of gaming I’ll do in year with my nearest and dearest, or even LFG folk. This game has saved me tonnes of money on disappointing other releases. With destiny I know where I stand, great start, lack lustre seasons, but there is enough there to get you through a year. I also approach every season with low expectations, so, never disappointed. With some new games it’s bad, to the point you disown the developer altogether. Take cyberpunk, i will never EVER buy one their games again. It was that damaging. The weird part of Destiny which keeps me going. It’s one of those games where you just make your own challenges to make it interesting. For example, season of the drifter I set myself a challenge of 10000 fusion pvp kills to get me through 3 months. Season of the plunder (can’t remember the real name) I focused on getting all VOW red boarders, and I had a blast. Back to your original question of should you still commit…to be a buzzkillington it’s always down to you. For me, the points above and just the fact destiny has just been such a massive part of my gaming life since 2014, is enough for me to keep investing. I also wsnt to see what final state the game will be in. I also love the merch on occasion(to name a few t3vr tshirt, netf gjallahorn). But the biggest thing for me is the guardians, nearest and dearest and those you can rely on in the forums and lfg. I haven’t come across a game with such an active lfg where you meet LIKEMINDED guardians who wanna get s@it done and get that loot. It’s that big a part of my gaming life I’ve invited a few nearest and dearest to my wedding this year from across the pond! Whatever decision you make it will always be the right one. Guardians make their own fate.

    • That’s a question to ask after it releases. All I know for certain is that if you are going to buy lightfall, avoid the delux edition. Because even if the dlc is big and expansive, the seasons almost assuredly won’t be.

    • I would approach it as follows; If you believe that you will get value for money, then purchase it. If you believe that you will not get value for money, then don't purchase it.

      • just wait and see, watch reviews and evaluate for yourself whether lightfall is with your hard earned money. I'm in wait and see mode, I never pay for anything sight unseen.

      • It’s Bungie. Nothing will change, it will be more of the same boring, repetitive, rinse and repeat trash. Strand just looks unappealing and boring. Same with the exotic weapons.

I too am weighing canceling my preorder I’m bored with destiny to just be blunt I log in am just like instantly nope It’s just doing the same thing over and over that we have done for years I don’t know maybe I’ll just wait for a sale later down the line I’m going to kick it around a little more before deciding Probably while playing elder scrolls online if only this game was more like that where achievements and time were rewarding and worth something

        • You shouldn't. They've released some hype like they usually do but the other shoe hasn't really dropped yet. They save terrible news as long as they think they can get away with, and anytime Bungie talks about major reworks you should stand with your back to the wall if you want to keep the knife out of it.

        • It's really very simple. Wait till it's out, don't preorder. After that watch some reviews...just not from D2 streamers. Then you can make a racional decision like buy it, wait for a sale, or avoid.

        • Wait till 2 weeks after release and don’t watch popular Youtubers. They suck the Bungie banana for views. By 2 weeks the honey moon is over you will know if its good or bad. Personally after this last year with all the bugs, server issues and lag im not expecting much.

        • Seems like you don't like the seasonal model (I'm right there with ya) but it's going to be more of that. Most of the people I play with aren't getting light fall. Myself and 2 others did but if something doesn't change in regards to seasons/grinding power and the artifact every 3 months it's going to just be my 1 buddy left playing out of our pretty big group 😂

        • No, but you're going to buy it or you wouldn't have even made this post. You like many want a reason, want the game to be good however Bungie's new vision conflicts with ours and they don't seem to care. They are intentionally doing bare minimum, they are intentionally raising the toxicity, and are intentionally trying to kill this game because they just don't know what to do anymore. When you hit a wall you either break it, climb over it, or give up. Bungie tried the other 2 and failed so now there is only one.

I said this during beyond light. Lightfall is gonna be my make or break on interest and investment. Ive invested ten years of my life being a part of this game (e3 exposure in 2013 and so forth) It's my favorite fps. Not just for feel but for the world of it. Lore. Character development. The mystery of it all. If you like what I mentioned above and still feel a certain way about the game (and you can afford it) Might as well. It's a game you can pick up with any mentality going into it. Casual or Influencer level of sweat and hours. Just get the base content and buy what u want along the way if you so choose. I didn't bother with this season contentlol js. Either way, you're gonna be coming back to the game, and you're gonna feel like you're missing out playing with and against people in the game. That'll be the big push of incentive or indifference. So if not now you'll find out later

        • If you are burned out just move on You can always play the intro mission and see if you want to move on from that I'd recommend to wait and see if it interest you ...dont listen to review or the community You know the game ,it won't have major changes ....its up to you if you want to continue

        • I just purchased the Lightfall + pass. I love the game despite the issues. I love the grind to a point, the Mass Effect/Halo/D&D feel to it is nostalgia for me. So, if you ask me? Buy it.

Pre-ordering used to be a way to insure you'd get the game on the release date and gave companies an idea of how many physical copies to make. With digital downloads there is no real reason to pre-pay, you're guaranteed to get the game day one, pre-order or not, and the company can make one copy as easily as 10,000 copies, so it doesn't matter. REAL REASON: "But... You'll miss out on all the pre-order exclusives!" This is just "We'll give you some extra crap if you blindly buy our game BEFORE the reviews come out" Period! . TL:DR If the free crap is more valuable to you than waiting for the reviews, go for it!

        • Do a cost/benefit assessment. For example, going to a 2 hour movie can cost about $50 bucks (more or less depending on if you buy candy, etc). So that's $25 per hour of entertainment. If you have Netflix at $15 a month and you watch some TV series or a few movies the cost per hour of entertainment can easily drop below $1 an hour. For Lightfall and the season pass even if you play if a very minimal amount like 2 hours per week you'll get over 100 hours of play. At the current price you easily get to $1 an hour of entertainment. For me, I easily get hundreds of hours in the game without even doing much PvP or Gambit. Since I'm not ready to let the game go yet because I still find parts of it enjoyable, and I play it enough that my cost/benefit ratio is easily about 30 cents an hour (or less). So over the course of a year I get really good bang for my entertainment buck compared to other things I buy for leisure. So that's one way to figure out if it's right for you.

        • My advice is wait till launch, play free intro mission, read up on stand, watch muted gameplay unless you can find some without Bungie’s influence or a YouTuber/ twitch streamer who will use it to sway you one way or another to minimize bias. And make your decision. There’s really no reason for the preorder cause other than a ghost shell and emblem you can get everything else with a later purchase anyhow. If we’re lucky they’ll do a free week for Bungie anniversary like they did for WQ and if you’re still curious you can try it out then too. I know how you feel. Having so many memories tied to this game, but if you’re bored or if it’s causing you suffering it’s better to take a step back, than to let it sour your memories of it. After all this necessarily doesn’t mean it’s over forever anyhow.

          • My advice: don't preorder, read reviews when LF releases, then decide for yourself it you want to sink some cash into a year's expansion. It's not that hard.
