Bungie, whoever your writer is for Season of the Seraph…

Keep them. They are invaluable. Today’s story reset was MM, chef kiss. Edit: A reminder that this is my opinion. I do not expect people to share it, but if you choose to post here, please be respectful. There is absolutely no need to attack my thoughts, but I do not mind engaging discussion. Obviously, you’re allowed to disagree. Thank you! Edit 2: It seems people are starved for an explanation. It was not my plan; I was only here to encourage this kind of story because I thought it happened to be good. So here you go. - I happen to enjoy this season. It is miles better than ALL the seasons we’ve had after Witch Queen. It is also written better, and the writer seems to respect old lore, and included them rather than blatantly ignore them. - I couldn’t even tell you what most of the seasons post Witch Queen are about, because they were so unremarkable and unmemorable with poor and uninteresting story beats. Season of the Haunted was probably a little interesting, but I didn’t like Crow’s development—love the character, not a fan of his whininess and unexpected and unnecessary manslaughter of that Psion. The ones responsible for the ideas behind the story just had to force Crow in some predicament for the sake of “character development”, but he already had plenty of that without shoehorning more into it. Crow was already complicating, there was no need to add to it, it’s exhausting. Zavala and Caiatl’s stories were very good. Zavala’s in particular damn near made me cry. - Despite popular belief, I did not “set the bar so low”. I go into every season with a neutral outlook, as I have done since seasons became a thing. - The gameplay feels fun. I ADORE the exotic quest, and do not mind that it feels like Deep Stone Crypt—then again, I also love Deep Stone Crypt. I’m also very happy that there are no champions. It’s fun and easy, and I sincerely hope there are more quests with the same vibe. - The “Bray family drama” is a way more interesting development than the shoehorned MESS that was Mithrax and Eido’s ridiculous daddy/daughter drama. The entirety of Plunder felt like it was cobbled together by a fanfiction writer. - I am thrilled to see that Rasputin is gaining development. - I enjoyed seeing the Iron Temple again. Good rush of nostalgia. My only wish is that we could go inside, or climb the mountain, but I do not think either of those things were the point of going there in the first place. - Osiris’s exposition was really good. I’m glad to see a good balance of what we hear about in game, versus what we see written inside lore tabs. It’s so interesting. It’s great seeing the real Osiris, and watching him navigate around being a normal person. - My positive critique absolutely does not change the fact that I stopped my preorder for Lightfall. The seasons all year long have been dreadful, except for Seraph. I cannot run the risk of getting burned by Bungie by blindly preordering something that has a 50/50 chance of being good or bad. - I generally love Destiny, but I also have a LOT of opinions over how it could have been better as a whole. I’ve been with this game since the day it dropped back in September 2014, and have been through almost all of its ups and downs, and have shared my thoughts and feelings for years. And those are my thoughts. Remember that I am allowed to voice my opinion, and while I will be respectful of yours, know that I expect the same. If people cannot do this, then it’s no skin off my teeth to ignore you and move on. Hope everyone had a lovely Holiday! Enjoy your New Year!

  • I was talking about this the other day. I feel like the writing has taken a major turn and I'm not sure if I like it? My main issue is that I feel like a lot of the mysticism is gone. We had so much of it in Forsaken and Shadowkeep, and there was so little of it in Witch Queen which was a huge disappointment given the expectation. We had more build up before WQ, when everyone was wondering what Savathun's angle was with allowing herself to be captured by Mara for her deworming ritual. This season feels a bit better, but the direction feels so underwhelming. I think we all guessed
at Rasputin taking over the exo frame, but him entirely kicking Clovis out seems like a missed opportunity to have Clovis fill in the missing bits of Rasputin and have a Jekyll/Hyde moment.
I know there's a million ways to do a story, but I feel like since WQ, all their choices have been the boring ones.

    • The story makes no sense but okay its literally just “This is This” There is no deviating this is what you are Osiris knows something without a shadow of a doubt with no prior information on what the -blam!- he saw Clovis is clear cut evil and nothing else Rasputin is good now when he said “I am Rasputin and i have no equal”

          • Yup. Great story. The father of one the protagonist's allies transported himself into a computer so he could rule the world. Oh sorry. That was the plot twist of the Virtual World filler arc from the 4Kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh. What actually happened was the father of one of the protagonist's allies transported himself into a computer so he could rule the world.

            • Sure, yet we couldn't go in the temple because Saladin is strict. But...we're the young wolf that recieved the OG artifacts there from the Iron lords. You also cannot climb to the top of the peak. It has a kill zone once you go too far. Huge miss. Oh and a shattered ghost is just placed on a rug next to a cliff. All of this is not even trying.

Nah Osiris’s lines were awful. “I didn’t tell you Ana because I’m 👉👈 I’m selfish 🤪”. Really dud. Clovis is a generic evil scientist who just gets deleted away and is now no longer a problem. Felwinter Peak was a bust. It’s like they forgot Rise of Iron. Bungie please get whoever writes the lore books to write the story.

                  • It's good compared to most of Destiny's other story bits, but it's not that great compared to an intern's high school play script.

                  • I strongly disagree. Today’s was actually the worst so far this season. Trying to climb the mountain and get walled or turn back after just a few meters was a let down. The lack of everything there was also disappointed. The mission this week was boring and void of action.

                    • You're convincing me that you want more terrible stories. This entire season conflicts with not only D1 but D2 itself. Today's story breaks the start and end of Rise of Iron. As NOTHING of Felwinter should be recoverable as we only barely got the helmet of Jolder out of the room before it blew up AGAIN after we destroyed him. The family drama is annoying and pointless as it's all so stereotypical. Rasputin once again has gone from threatening neutral to good guy. Elsie still somehow hasn't come to terms with this Ana isn't her sister. Clovis is just stereotypical predictable bad guy that makes everyone seem super dumb by believing literally anything he says. If you think THIS is good writing you seriously need to read more.

The story is the most forgettable part of this game. Practically nothing gets resolved so that they can keep reusing characters and ideas instead of coming up with new and fresh stories. They almost never take a risk in anything they do. This game is FAR from a narrative driven game. There are some story beats that do pop out here and there -- but in my opinion I think this seasons story is really flat.

                          • Why? Whats the difference between do seasonal activity, spend less than 4 minutes getting relic, seasonal, relic, repeat same two steps for 8 weeks. And. Do battlegrounds, submind, battleground, submind, rinse and repeat. At least the sever missions were long and emotional. This rise and repeat of chores is getting old.

                                    • I don’t normally play seasonal content (so I can’t compare it to the previous ones) but I’m really enjoying it. The activities have been fun and I like how everything is tied together with Rasputin and Clovis Bray. I agree with your comments, especially the one about returning to the Iron Temple - first thing I did when I got there was try to climb the mountain!

It was interesting as long as I ignored the delivery. I never approved of cinematic stories in Destiny. I think these stories belong in the annual dlc and in the lore pages. Destiny has a great story if you read the lore, and the lore system makes sense if you buy the premise that the Guardian has no memory and is just piecing together clues of the past. By the way, stop reading comments and trying to explain yourself. Post your opinion and move on. Just because someone commented doesn't mean it has any value. A lot of these people are 12.

                                    • I wouldn’t know, someone had the bright idea to make the completion of an exotic mission that’s long and has no checkpoints necessary to progress the seasonal story...while having constant server issues that boot you from activities.
