Such an interesting character turned into a Saturday morning cartoon villain.
Next he'll be stealing everyone's left sock.
Plus all his interactions with characters just suck.
Clovis: "Huh, what is that?"
Every character: "I'm not gonna tell you because ur stoopid, I'm unique and indepent thinker, muted for being stoopid"

Clovis real identity is Mojo Jojo from power puff girls

1 ReplyIf you’ve ever played a dark side character in KOTOR 1, that’s pretty much how clovis is in terms of a character. Like you said, it’s so comically evil that it just ends up being goofy.
-
11 RepliesAll the dialogue this season seems off and forced Osiris out of now where bragging about being unrivaled Clovis basically says no Osiris flips out It’s so forced to hate Clovis
-
4 RepliesThis week really showed that we need actual cutscenes instead of having our Guardian just stand around and watch things happen. You have Ana getting angry and upset that Clovis was going to betray them, but she shows zero facial expression. And don't even get me started on those lazy black and white pictures that have a character giving exposition.

So many of us back when the warmind content drop happened called this. It's almost fan fiction ish with how corny and dry this game gets. The only person who felt had depth was Savathun and that's because of the voice actor made us believe her words. Other than that... I've had cottonmouth and not for a good reason.

Am I the only who was really enjoying Clovis? Just loved watching him take everybody down a peg.

Last 2 seasons have been goofy, Literally they could have made the story so much better if they didn’t make Osiris know about Neptunes colony as soon as the season starts. Or if they actually looked more into Rasputins emotions as a machine that was taught them. But no we get the rushed abridged story line cause destiny 2 is just becoming a joke more and more

5 RepliesIt’s no secret bungie has weak writers. I’m pretty sure bungie let’s all the rookies write the in game story and they save their talent for the lore books. It’s a night a day difference between the two.

And why does a robot attached to a machine indoors need a cloak?

Just like "Savathun is not has foolhearty has her brother, she would not risk a direct confrontation" 1 expansion later..."You have shown me you are right, and we should have always been on the same side, but what the heck, I'm going to try to kill you anyway" -
Clovis should be like the Illusive Man from Mass Effect 2, but that would require some actual talent from the writing stuff. Instead they made him into a goofy villian.
-
1 ReplyIt feels like they're trying hard to copy Mass Effects Saren and the Reapers with the whole Darkness and AI thing

Clovis Bruh I = Goofy confirmed!?

1 ReplyEdited by Sturm with no Drang: 12/28/2022 7:24:05 AMTo me, it feels like they’re forcefully trying to rush out this dialogue and pushing this cast-in-stone view of Clovis onto us in order to wrap up everything for Lightfall so that they can just tuck him away into irrelevance like a lot of past Destiny Lore and the Vault. They could have made it so that in later weeks we would be outright betrayed or plan a contingency for when Clovis did try to take over so that Red could subsume his control. They could have tried to open up more about his character and ties with his family, about his old “savior” project from when he was still perfecting the Exo bodies, anything to just flesh him out better, either by making him look more deranged/twisted and manipulative or more understandable as a villain, since just reading “in-game” lore doesn’t have nearly as much impact as an actual experience with the character themself. Didn’t need to be overly elaborate or anything, but it still could have been done miles better. And they just axe him. Just like that. There was no reason to go back to Creation/the labs before this season and there definitely isn’t any reason to care about it now if you’re not a new player. From what I’ve seen from Witch Queen and the past seasons, I’m not expecting them to turn the narrative on its head after this point or make a push to make any significant story plots that aren’t just simplified to repeat X & Y Activity, fight with this season’s reused Big Bad Hive/Fallen/Scorn asset and close up the story to make it point towards the next expansion’s introduction. The team themselves are obviously burned out from writing or they’ve lost their creative flow/direction. That or just pushing and forcing everything out as quickly as possible in order to close it all out just to prep for the next dlc. I’m no narrative or writing critique, but if even I could see this problem, somebody way more qualified would tear them apart down to the atom on their recent work.

Clovis is equivalent to the Illusive Man, but the Illusive Man from ME3. A character with nearly infinite potential that looks to be turning into generic bad guy with motivations as deep as a puddle.

2 RepliesHe's evil? I mean he was right. We can't trust the traveler to save us. The traveler would have run if Rasputin didn't interfere. The traveler even gave power to a race we are at war with. We know the traveler fled in the dark timeline. Clovis has saved humanity and his evil comes from his desire to control, but he isn't one dimensionally evil. He is still driven by his need to protect humanity above anything else. He went as far as to create bodies that would in theory last forever (or atleast far longer than a human body).
-
Not really. He's a narcissist and is willing to destroy anyone who gets in the way of his plans, even his own family. That's something we haven't really seen. We've had plenty of redeemable villains in Destiny as of late, it's time to go back to a villain who won't stop until they're dead imo.
-
I guess some nuances are too nuanced for some
-
I've skipped like 90% of the cutscenes since Shadowkeep. I mean, the story has been obviously "inspired" by much more well-known media for a long time, but that was the point where I think I actually damaged my eyes from rolling them so much. I blame this on John Carmack, and if you know what I'm talking about. then you know. God tier programmer, opinions on video game story quality, more like puddle of mud tier.

8 RepliesAnd people say they miss Asher Mir🤔
-
Honestly, that's pretty true of several of Destiny's characters. "Saturday cartoon villain" is a great way to describe it. I usually just say they're like a caricature. Saint-14, Osiris, Ana Bray, even Mara Sov lately are all examples of it. Although Saturday morning cartoon characters feels like a more apt description. That's why I've come to appreciate Saladin, Zavala and Eris Morn so much. They are well rounded characters.

4 RepliesHe reminds me of Dr evil. He is just the stereotypical evil bad guy for the sake of doing bad things
-
So basically you're saying he's like Elon Musk but more likable?
-
I wouldn’t go that far, but everyone just dunking on him is just getting repetitive at this point. If Bungie was wanting to make me show sympathy for an a-hole megalomaniac, they’ve pretty much succeeded. It’s been basically the same cutscenes and interactions for 3 weeks with one of the best few remaining actual “morally grey” characters we have left.
