Or at the very least let the legendary ones use primary. The main reason I don't use them is because I hate having to worry about ammo for guns that are pretty much only useful for ad clearing. Yeah I can see some arguments for leaving the exotics as secondaries but the legendaries really just don't do enough to justify a limited ammo. Especially considering there's plenty of primaries that can either hit harder or clear rooms better.
-
At the very least, they need to be allowed to carry more ammo. Using them in anything above hero feels like they take half the magazine to kill one thrall.
-
I wouldn't care but the community does. Legends would be fine ,no to exotics though it would be nice to be able to ages scepter and ruinous effigy without ammo limits.
-
That'd make them always available, stronger than auto's auto rifles (They even used to be coded to use AR mods 😉) Nah, they have decent ammo economy for what they are.
-
5 RepliesTraces are a little too strong to have unlimited primary ammo, and even though special is about as close to limitless in PvE as you can get, you do still run out if you're overusing it. I think it's fine myself.
-
Nobody?
-
While trace rifles aren’t that strong they’d be to strong as primary weapons. Like div with unlimited ammo or Prometheus lenses
-
Having infinite ammo will make primaries useless for pve, they just need a slight damage boost or more reserves and they'll be perfect
-
When I tried using them, something like Retraced Path with incandescent for ad clearing red bars, it’s amazing. As soon as I try to use it on yellow bars, I burn my ammo insanely quickly. They are powerful but not quite enough. Infinite ammo seems a bit much though. Maybe more ammo, and/or more damage to majors.
-
1 ReplyIf bungie lowers their damage to auto rifle damage then sure im down. They melt right now as special weapons
-
I could see then getting more ammo for PvP. They’re actually pretty nice in the Crucible, but because they’re special weapons, and because scavengers don’t work in there anymore, there’s no point in using them over auto rifles unless you’re really good with them, especially the legendary trace rifles.
-
I have same idea for a long time.my fundemental is green ammos for majors but traces are not good at melting majors.because 1000 rpm drains reserves so fast.only i can discuss on agers
-
Edited by Illuminary: 12/27/2022 2:35:17 PMThey should be buffed a tiny bit more, except for Agers, because something in it's code is busted, and because beefing up stasis weapons through builds is simple. The other traces are pretty bad except for Wave Splitter since the orb/volatile makes it pretty strong. They should also stay on special ammo.
-
How about a slight PVE buff instead? (10 - 20%) Right now they really don’t seem to do much more than an auto rifle. (I have not tested it, but this is a general feeling.) Since they use special ammo, make them more special.
-
No, no, absolutely not. For most builds, Special is the ad clear slot, of course there should be options in it good at ad clear! Trace Rifles serve a roll similar to machine guns in the first game, back when Special weapons were the best for DPS. And, due to their status, exotic ones get the primary damage buff. I like trace rifles, let’s not ruin them please.
-
No just double the ammo
-
Give them more damage
-
They can stay, but I can agree that they need mild buffs.
-
1 ReplyHonestly I do think they would see way more use if they were changed to primary ammo. Would need damage nerfs to go with the ammo change, but they are just too weak to be used as they are right now outside of the lowest levels of content where anything works. They suffer from the same problem machineguns do, using your heavy/special ammo to do the job of primary ammo weapons slightly better is not worth it when you give up your weapons to kill major/bosses. No clue why it seems to hard for professional game developers to see what is such an obvious problem.
-
They use to back in y1 when specials were heavy. Then they took special ammo after the weapon slot changes
-
They're just fancy Auto Rifles. They even used Auto Rifle mods at first.
-
Edited by $hirtless Captain Kirk: 12/27/2022 5:06:24 AMDefinitely. That's the main reason I never use them. PvE only.
-
They do too much damage to be Primary Weapons and not enough to be special weapons. The only way I'd ever use them is if there was a compromise option to where you could take a Legendary Trace Rifle as a Primary Weapon at the expense of having no Special weapon but obviously, this is impossible to implement and would even break PvP for those that still care.
