EDIT: this issue is exactly what was described in today's TWAB, so thank you Bungie for investigating and addressing this issue. In the future however it would be really appreciated if you would acknowledge that the issue is new and unusual so the players are less prone to just blaming each other and more likely to provide actual relevant information.

I was playing comp with some friends last night (who are much better than I am) for Rose farming, and was seeing teleporting like the above in many games. According to my friend it has been a constant thing in recent days, much worse than ever seen before this season. I also have seen many examples from content creators on social media. All three of us were playing on fiber internet and are in the same general region. I ran multiple tests on my network after resetting my gear and verified my latency and packet loss to multiple popular data centers were fine. You'll note the game itself consistently said my connection was fine when I died. This only happened in certain games, but when it did it impacted the entire team.
Unlike normal player lag, we discussed this as it was happening and player positioning was updating differently for each of us. It would cycle who was seeing someone walking into walls or teleporting, and which players they saw doing so. I would see one player walking off an edge as I was firing at them, and my team mate would see my bullets flying sideways from my model to their actual position on the map (and visa versa at other times). It's like it was rotating which player would stop getting mesh updates throughout the game.
This does not appear to be a normal player connectivity issue. I suspect it could be an issue server side, or an issue with Steam Datagram Relay causing issues between particular ISPs. It warrants immediate investigation because in its current state, Comp, and crucible in general, is unplayable like this. My PvP friends are walking away from the game even faster than last season.
Example PCGRs where we saw this issue last night in case you have some network records: 12054288444, 12054436917

Edited by devoltar: 12/18/2022 4:38:54 PMIt looks like I'm far from the only one, I believe the issue has been much worse since the last hotfix or season patch. The behavior is not a simple "that guy's laggy", as the issue propagates among players thoughout the match, and the difference between a bad session and a good one is night and day, as though there's some threshold where the netcode just breaks down completely. Additional information: * This is happening in all activities, I've seen it happen to players even in strikes and gambit, with a several second window of certain players walking into walls. * In the case that it's an issue on a peering link between providers, I'm on Centurylink and a friend I was playing with when I saw the worst of it is on Cox, both western US. At all times our connection quality in Destiny showed as good, and backgound packet loss/jitter tests to multiple datacenters were flawless. This is NOT normal lag symptoms for anyone who understands a little about what goes on behind the scenes or has played the game for years. Something is wrong with the game/infrastructure that has caused a recent escalation in issues. These posts are from this week showing similar symptoms: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/znhyli/the_lagdesync_this_season_particularly_since_last/ https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/zlhi97/matchmaking_is_horrible_ive_been_experiencing_a/ https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/zmb3nf/horrible_desyncing_in_pvp/
