bad connections after a certain time every night

I am in EST/EDT (for reference on time). Why is it that every night after about 10 pm the connections go down the toilet. I have had games where the entire other team is lagging for me. Mind you it isn't like I have a bad connection to bungie or steam. That ping is still down below 50 ms, and I have gigabit bandwidth in both up and down so it is not my internet. Is it matching me against people on the other side of the pasific? Edit: could bungie prioritize connections just a little more over match making time?

  • Biggest population is America, biggest age group is kids. 10pm people to to bed. Destiny is very low population elsewhere, I'm in the UK & match people from Africa, the middle east, and Russia, even during peak times here. Struggled to mm in strikes this morning, feels like the games actually dying off.

    • Connection based game. People in your region start to get off. You’re matching people farther and farther away.
