How did the Speaker live so long?
As far as I know, the Speaker was there when the city began construction. That was centuries ago. So how the heck did he live so long?!? He is definitely not a light bearer. We’ve never seen him with a ghost and he never used his powers. Unless he’s exo, or awoken. Those are the only two races that live that long. Exo are immortal and I’m sure awoken just have a looooooooooong lif span. But we don’t know because we’ve never seen his face.

It is strange we've never seen his Ghost... but mostly when I saw him It was in Red War, where he would have lost his light... and I haven't played Destiny 1

Human lifespan was tripled during the Golden Age, and might've had a permanent effect on people since then. I can't recall if there are any lore tabs mentioning the general age/lifespan of people living in the Last City though.

The city is only about 50-100 years old. Although there is little lore to speculate on the actual age and time frames, it's likely only been about 600-700 years from the time the traveler was discovered on Mars to present day city age. When humans made contact with traveler their life span was tripled, so it's likely the golden age only lasted 300-400 years before the collapse. It's possible humans still benefit from the extended life span given by the traveler. Remember Amanda Holliday came to the city as a child and when she arrived it was basically just a shanty town of tents with a simple stone wall. Givne her appearance, it's likely she is some where in her 30s. As I recall the speaker was in his late teens early 20s when he came to the city with his mentor.

Human lifespan tripled when the Traveler arrived. I’m not sure if it’s different for the Awoken because they’ve been through some stuff since the Collapse.
