If you haven’t read this week’s TWAB, stop sulking in the forums and read it. This is MAJOR news over crucible as a whole if you’re mostly a PvP player.
I’m not going to address EVERY point in the TWAB since it’s beefy (and I can’t go back to it while typing this) so just either bear with me or talk about what you like about it or not in the comment section.
First thing I want to talk about is their plans for Quickplay. Like so many major PvP players have said (at nauseam), control is supposed to be a “casual” playlist and it looks like Bungie agrees with you since they are supposed to be “pickup games at a park”. But they still kept the loose SBMM in it since they want ALL players to have a good time and not just the really good players. I think that it’s great so far but could be better. Another thing is that they combined BOTH clash and control into ONE playlist WITH the loose SBMM. (I could only imagine the shitshow Twitter, Reddit, and these forums will become in the coming weeks!)
I do like the new Seal. Seems like so far that it will easier to acquire than before but will still be a challenge to do so since you HAVE to go in competitive mode. Overall, it’s a nice change.
Competitive. I just like to say that Bungie FINALLY listened to people by adding a LADDER based progression ranking like every game on the market! I do like the added condition about when you lose or win enough to go into the next tier that you have to win 2/3 games in order to keep or go up to the next tier. I like to think that this is a way of PROVING that you have what it take to stay at your ranking or go beyond it. I ALSO like how they said that the TRUE reward for playing Competitive is NOT loot but the drive to test yourself against better players (so they say). They prove this by allowing the higher tier weapons to be acquired by only being “efficient” at playing the game and not just being at a higher rank! Thank God they decided that because I don’t want to go back to the days where pinnacle weapons were TERRORIZING the Crucible nonstop. (It COULD be back to that but at least lower-skilled players have a CHANCE of acquiring those weapons now to fight back!)
Trials or Osiris. If you were a player that HATES freelance, Bungie is removing it BUT is adding Fireteam Matchmaking! Solos WILL be put against other solos and duos while full stacks WILL ONLY face against other stacks. Will it fix the lackluster mode? No. But it will at least be a start. With these changes, I will probably check out Trials myself and I SUCK at them. 😂
And finally, I am sad that Rumble is going to the weekly rotator. I like playing by and testing myself over what I can do on my own. 🙁
Overall, pretty good system in place (at least for me) and Bungie claims that this system isn’t permanent and could change over time.
What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?
I loved sbmm when it was recently applied to the Quick Play list. They played with until I liked it a lot less. I frakkin DESPISE the dumpster fire Iron Banner has become, all the new crap needs to be flushed down the drain and Iron Banner needs to be Reset to Control in Pre-Crossplay / Pre-CBMM status. When Level mattered BUT There was a fixed cap that No one could level beyond. (Pre-Artifact too) Iron Banner used to be my absolute favorite thing. Now its pure annoyance. Invisible Hunters, Titans zooming around the battlefield like Death-Eaters, half the enemy team lane-camping. Control made sense tactically. It felt like there was actual strategy and thought, something to Do. Now its just a bunch of players running around without purpose, just looking for a kill. Or camping a lane, or an ammo drop. The whole game has gone (in many respects), the exact wrong way: • Every single boss has gated phases • Player progress is 'managed' so completely, effectively slowing players 'progress' down to the point that most players might hit level cap in the last week or two of the season. So we never get to sit back and enjoy the characters we spent so long grinding up. I liked it so much better when it took a couple weeks to grind Up to the new level cap after new Content released. Now playing the game just feels like a monotonous To-Do list. It not fun to me. I would rather spend time playing the game and exploring and fighting, really just experiencing the environment that the designers put so much time into, and the game itself. Instead I spend all my time chasing Pinnacles, or Dumb bounties, or Vendor Rep. All so I can check some boxes off, get some Bright Dust, and then mostly horde it in case Warlocks actually get some kool gear (Like the Nessa Rex armor or the Kitsune armor - which I love). That or I get side tracked thumbing through the 200-300 Shaders I have, frustratingly ending up back on the same handful I always end up back on. I mean yeah there are some new shooters that look cool but they're not my style or the wrong colors with the right pattern or something, you know. • Trash mobs that endlessly respawn the second you kill them, until you kill the 3 phase Boss, after which the trash mobs will De-Spawn. All this does is make it super clear fighting them serves no point whatsoever! Again, no satisfaction when you're done. Hell, no sense of being done for that matter! • No mob EVER does anything unexpected! Go back and play Halo ffs! Watch as the mobs actually display personality!!! Where the frak did that kind of design thinking go Bungie? In Halo mobs would do all sorts of things. Run away, hide, say funny things... Now all get is bs teleporting, speed running, bullet dodging trash mobs. Heck, enemy mobs in Halo can emote more effectively than players can in Destiny 2. • I spend all my time in game just wrestling with the game engine and the dumb ptp 'hybrid' networking mess. Trying to figure out what invisible hoops I have to jump through this month, in hopes of having and enjoyable PVP match that feels somewhat evenly balanced. Gunship

QuickPlay is not just Control. It is Clash AND Control chosen randomly. QuickPlay was Bungie's solution to improve matchmaking time due to a player population decline. Do you remember what happened over a year ago? Gamers hated QuickPlay so they left the match type they did not want to play, either Clash or Control. Prepare yourself for QuickPlay 2.0

The rank and competitive changes are great but until we get some class balance it will be anything but that.
-
It's ad nauseam

I am concerned about Rumble and Comp. I hope Competitive is an actual Rank Ladder.

Give me your address, I’ve got some things to sell you.

Trials population is basically dead, that's why people with ZERO wins on a card get put up against people on their 7:th match for the lighthouse. That's not SUPPOSED to happen, and yet it does. Same thing will happen here, solo's will load up and still match stacks because there's not enough people playing and the stacks'll been left in queue too long. Anything short of completely blocking stacks from matching solos will not worked, and they clearly state in the TWAB that it CAN happen. If it can happen, I'd bet a fortune against a rats tail it'll happen so often it'll basically be just like it is now lol

My only question about the Division play list.. If I play in a fireteam with players in different complete Divisions, which division will the fire team be put in and how will that effect our increase or decrease in position on the ladder based on a win or loss? Major bit of info they left out. Lets face it, its easier to figure out solo players placement in a ranked system than it is if we have a team with players from each Division on a fireteam.

4 RepliesA big step in the right direction towards breathing life back into Crucible. But top players are once again going to find that players of average ability gravitate towards SBMM playlists. So Bungie needs to stand their ground and ignore the inevitable complaints.
-
One problem it’s minor but it could happen again, hakke casino. Hopefully they have taken that into account but I’m not holding my breath.
-
Trials changes aren’t enough to convince me to play it. Record will remain at 0 for participation for the playlist.

5 RepliesWe have loose sbmm right now and it’s still sweat qp. The game is dead and they are trying to excite people. Sad that the game has to die for them to revive it if that.

8 RepliesNew comp is just current comp lmao with 1 reward. It's strict sbmm your ranking has no effect on who you match.

Removing Rumble and a 3x3 option are huge mistakes. There is nothing else like Rumble in the game and 3x3 modes have a different strategy and pacing and better connections than 6x6. (A rotating 3x3 with Elimination, Skirmish, and Showdown would work.) Dedicated Rumble and Elimination players are not going to funnel into 6x6 modes.
-
Bump for the rumble awareness. It's a real shame they are more or less removing the only ffa experience in D2 for 4 out of every 5 weeks that pass.
-
Being penalized for leaving a match is not labeled “Casual Play” it’s labeled “Competitive Play”. PvP has never been catered to the Casuals so let’s be honest they have finalized PvP as “Competitive Play” since introducing suspensions for leaving… I’m all for it! Slight truth in my trolling comment ;p

I do think this is a decent TWAB overall. Shaxx is finally getting a vendor update, legacy focusing will let me get the armor pieces I missed, glory is getting a much needed tune up and Fortress seems interesting, especially if we get to summon Caiatl in a match or have her bombard the map with missiles. I do have a couple concerns though. Firstly, I still don’t understand why they’re keeping quitter penalties in Quickplay of all things. It’s supposed to be a quick “get in, kill people, get out” game mode where you just have fun. No real reason to punish people for dipping early. Penalties should only exist in objective based game modes and highly competitive playlists where leaving is actually detrimental to your team. Secondly, although I like that Glory has a purpose now, I don’t know if it’ll last long without dedicated rewards. Yeah, they’ll add some cosmetics, but those can only do so much to keep people invested. I’d like to see something like Redrix’s return, but I don’t know if they’ll ever do that.

2 Replies"Quick play equivalent to pick up games in the gym"? Sure, sounds great. "Leave when you are no longer having fun?" Yeah, hard NO. Most players idea of fun is outperforming or winning against others. You shouldn't get to quit with out repercussions simply because you are losing/getting farmed/don't like the map. Like, could you imagine an actual pick up game of ball in the gym where someone walked out before the score limit because they missed some shots or something?

6 RepliesEdited by rtopz: 11/17/2022 10:14:24 PMZero point to play comp divison...like try hards might like flexing, but the rewards are yawn worthy. Just feel like it's being used to grab stats and build a mm database for future use

I'm really happy with it overall too. I wasn't expecting that much stuff to change but I'm really glad there's that much to look forward to. It was a good idea to let the ranking system take center stage as far as the new comp is concerned and I've always liked showdown so I'm happy that its being moved over to that playlist and will benefit from a larger player population. Also glad there's a new seal to chase and fireteam matchmaking in trials, which will most likely and should be the main route to obtaining loot, will be good for just about everyone. Over the last year or so there have been a lot of new and returning players that would go into that mode and other modes that didn't have freelance expecting that they would mostly play against fireteams of the same size so its something that should benefit everyone and not just long term solo players or people that would like to see the flawless pool go away. Like it said in the twab, they did a good job of including something for everyone and that every type of player has requested and it really came across like PvP is going to be a much fuller and complete feeling experience going forward.

6 RepliesYou forgot to mention Rose coming back with random rolls.
