The saddest thing about the state of the game is all your friends/crew mates leaving the game for good and not being able to play with anyone you know

My clan of 69 has 5 active users, maybe 6-7 including me, usually only see 2 online. Most of my friends quit many months ago and moved onto other games because they saw the game for what it was worth. It's extremely difficult to recommend this game to anyone, not only because of the entry cost but because the game is just not what it used to be. The game has lost it's identity long ago and now its nothing more than a business for Bungie. I miss the era when passion was prioritized over profits.

My best friend and cousin, two of my closest guy friends abandoned the clan and left to play other games. I am the clan leader of a clan, that at one time had 90 active users and is now dead…. This is the most depressing part of it all. The complete lack of innovation is something that I accepted a long time ago. We are essentially doing the same things that we did in vanilla destiny one… most of my clan and myself agreed that it would be this way, but that we could stand it because those basic elements were strong, and there were different ways to play the game. With the ever increasing seasonal grind, and Bungie’s insistence on dominating the way that we play the game, only the most hard-core now can get everything out of the game and level multiple characters, an act that before would make the game more interesting and fresh. The push for the game to dominate my time for fear of missing out, has only pushed me away from it. The abandonment of quality core Content and increasingly buggy releases doesn’t help either.

    • The stupid sunsetting of weapons killed it for my friends. They felt like it was a slap in the face after all the hours grinding for those weapons was spit on by Bungie. Then to turn around and remove sunsetting EXCEPT those weapons. They are not even THAT powerful anymore. They need to unsunset ALL pinnacle weapons. All of them. Actually unsunset ALL weapons. Fixed roll weapons you get what you get. Random roll weapons take materials to re-roll for what you are looking for. Crafting stays the way it is. That way they can bring back some sort of “play the way you want to” back to the game instead of play the way you want to as long as it’s the way WE want you to. JMO

    • I’m about the only active person in my “clan” (what a joke). And I have pretty much no one who still plays from the D1 and early D2 days.

Consider yourself lucky, d2yr1 was when it started with clan I’m in and friends list Git 5 that stopped midway through d2yr1, gone never played this again

      • Yeah, same thing happened when Destiny 2 released. It felt like the guardian genocide really did happen after Ghaul came.

      • Completely agree. As much as I like game, it’s extremely hard to recommend it to anyone. Game is purely fomo, at any point you feel like the time you invested could all be flushed down the drain, a lot of core story beads are missing which will have new players lost and there’s absolutely no clear path for new players. That said people who have been around know/should know when to opt out BEFORE pre ordering anything. Also should know what they’re getting into with this particular live service game.

That's basically my problem when it comes to raids. It's happened since Last Wish, that whenever all my friends get the exotic, they just straight drop the game when it comes to raids so I'm here by myself grinding dozens of Boss CP for weeks on end because nobody else has any reason to play the raid anymore. As for the general gameplay, nobody plays PvP anymore and I don't blame em, I don't either. The repeated seasonal 6 man activity is boring as hell after the first few times you are required to play it so I typically just spend most of my time on patrols doing bounties. There's really nothing to do in Destiny after the first few weeks of a new season and that's why most people stop playing after a month or so.

      • Yup, my clan was in that category. It’s a recurring issue and especially the clan functionality and how it was designed. Bungie needs to address this and find solutions (i.e. optional matchmaking for all PvE activities except raids).

      • Yeah I haven't been in a clan in about 3 years. Started to see clans don't really last so it actually gives me the freedom to not to have to sign in and do a raid everyday. People are always like hey man you aren't in a clan. Honestly it's not worth it.

      • My friends and I are really tight. We had a clan of 6. We only ever had everyone online once to try Eater of Worlds. I loved it. We got to the final encounter but they had no DPS gear. It ended in defeat. Nobody came back after that. Save me. Lone remaining member of clan HOTH. I try to get them to come back but it's a hard sell. I almost want to expand the clan or start my own but IDK. I just LFG stuff when I have the time but I feel the social anxiety trying to communicate with people in dungeons and raids.

      • Saddest part is no new players are replacing them, just a constant drip of older players leaving and the hardcore addicts telling everyone that can't play 60 hours a week they don't matter.

I'm a long time raid sweat. Top 1k speed rank and over 1000 raid clears. Before beyond light, it was hard as hell to get in the top 1k. There was stiff competition. When BL came out, I was hanging around the 900 rank. I could get into the 800s occasionally, but man that was getting some crazy times on stuff, like a 12m spire of stars or a 9m scourge on console, which was super hard to do back then. Now, I barely try, and I'm in the 700 range. My Vow time is not great and I don't even have a sub 30m kingsfall. It doesn't take a lot to get there. My rank doesn't drop THAT much everyday. The competition is a lot less fierce. Even more surprising, though, is my legacy speed rank. I'm top 200 all time in speedrunning. If I knock off 10 minutes, which I can easily do on my Vow alone, I'll be top 100 all time. That's insane. It's not because I am "that good". I am a 700-900th rank at best which is still very good, don't get me wrong. I rock at raiding and even have some weird stuff like a duo master atheon clear. I just don't have the time the higher ranked players do to farm the raids over and over to get the strats that far down to where I can compete in the top 200. My max rank was 363rd just before KF came out. So I've been close. What actually happened was most of the people who speed ran before Beyond Light quit. The people who speedrun now, for the most part, were squeakers or noobies back then and didn't run like that. The result is a very small group of people, which includes me, that simply outlasted everyone else. I have good (or at least reasonably decent) times in every raid in D2 history, and because so few people have made it that far, that puts me in the top 200 all time. Before BL came out and even during the DSC days, it was relatively easy to find top tier groups to play with. I knew most of them, I was invited most of the time to the farms and stuff. It was chill. Now? I see maybe 1-2 farms per week in LFG. I join em when I can because I enjoy that sort of thing, but the raid sweat community is consolidated, and getting smaller. The game is slowly dying. It's definitely not like it used to be around here.

          • I played solo before Destiny. Made over 500 friends with D1 and D2 combined alone. From zero friends to over 500 friends just playing both games. I belonged in an active clan of almost a hundred members. They made me admin because I did a lot of sherpas back in the day. When Activision left, I stopped playing because I knew the game will go downhill. I was correct. The game did go downhill. Now it’s just a broken and empty game. When I stopped playing, out of over 500 people in my friends list, only less than 20 are playing regularly. And that includes members of my clan. It’s buzzing. Buzzing with flies because the game is just as empty as my friends list. I left my clan but kept my friends still. Game is a mess. A broken empty mess. Haha!🤣

            • Yeah, losing faith in bungies ability to develop destiny 2 properly. Game breaking bugs are to frequent and not dealt with or ignored. The engine doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the development anymore either. Just look at the tower experience now days.

              • Yea I’ve added 100s of people over the years from raid LFGs specifically and every time I get on I’m either the only one or 1 of 2 or 3. It’s absolutely hilarious how many hardcore players don’t play the game anymore. Says a lot

This is part of why I hate that certain parts of the game are way too reliant on RNG as an attempt to get people to keep playing. I have bad RNG. I know that’s cliche and sounds whiny but I legitimately DO have bad RNG and am always last or near last to get something in my group. What happens is that everyone else gets what they want from a raid/dungeon and my choices are just not ever getting what I want from those activities, begging the people I know to help me with it week after week even though they don’t want to, or using LFG. And honestly, I’m just tired of it. I’ve stopped begging because I don’t want to be “that guy” but also because I barely ever get any responses anyway. The thing that always gets me to take a break is this. It’s not because I did everything I wanted and got what I was going for. It’s because the trollish RNG was unfavorable. That’s a bad system.

This is what treating something like a cash cow and not a wagyu Olympic competitor does Which destiny couldve been the best beef on the market. But corporate and the lazy leadership that took the easy road out made it into the exhausted deflated bag of milk this game has become. Seriously destiny could've been a franchise that stretched very well into actual VR future territory. But. It was labeled as a CoD competitor rather than its own power house All aboard the hype train (at best)
