While I think everyone agrees it was the best 3.0 rework in general, and specifically for warlocks, I noticed something that's been bothering me.
There is literally nothing unique about voidlock at all. Everything you can do on lock can be easily replicated (and often improved) on a titan or hunter.
Back before the 3.0 rework, devour and it's variable access was voidlocks main selling point, being able to consume your grenade was a great utility that frankly, shouldn't have been removed without some sort of compensation.
Titans and hunters also shared some of their tree, but it was not anything class defining like devour and nade consumption. Titans are still the only ones who can utilize on demand overshields, hunters are still the only ones who have wall hacks +invis access AND utility. That little fragment that makes you go invis is frankly not that potent and can't even be used in pvp. Meanwhile devour was given on a fragment by simply picking up an orb of light.
So what does that all mean? Well, it means that devour is as easily procced and just as potent on titan and hunter as it is for warlock. BUT, overshields are still exclusive to titans, and invis utility is still exclusive to hunters. Child's is a strong tool, but it's strengths can easily be replicated by the grenade weaken fragment. On titans especially so because they can use double weaken vortex nades with overshields. Voidlock has no niche, nothing to make them special or excel at anymore.
Does anyone have any ideas on what voidlock could use to become different again? I don't think it would be asking too much to bring some flavor back to the class. Choas accelerate isn't it.

12 RepliesHonestly, I have to beg to differ. Void subclasses are the most differed subclasses. Titans rock the defense and shields. They can become impenetrable fortresses that enemies break against. Hunters are sneaky pathfinders. They can easily go invisible and massively disrupt any opposition. Warlocks are the reality benders. They can unleash extremely powerful attacks with grenades or Nova Bomb. Their ability to get devour on ability kills may sound bad since you can no longer get it from devouring a grenade, but it's still an easy way to get it started (outside of PvP). They even have an aspect that keeps refreshing devour on further kills (any, not just ability). Lastly, the void buddy is extremely beneficial for yourself and allies, granting an intrinsic way to weaken, DoT, AND give yourself energy back. Void warlocks are still the vampire class with powerful attacks. You just kinda have to look at it from a slightly different angle.

3 RepliesEdited by OG (117): 11/14/2022 10:42:57 PMNah it’s fantastic, and seeing how the melee fragments work with glaives it’s even better paired with karnsteins or necrotic grips, only the warlock can play void this way.

1 ReplyChild is quite good and the main reason I use voidlock. Wouldn't mind nerfing all sources of devour to only give half the health and grenade energy on kill but keep full devour for the warlock aspect.

12 RepliesWarlocks lost their void identity after 5 years. Every warlock cries . We get rat king in season 1 and wishender in season 4 that steal the ENTIRE void hunter identity and no one cares. Obvious warlock bias.

2 RepliesEdited by FateTDF: 11/14/2022 12:34:54 AMI main warlock, and I love my void lock more now then I ever did before 3.O. I absolutely slaughter enemies while weakening everything and regenerate health like crazy.

5 RepliesHuh. Void warlock is insanely good.

2 RepliesSolar day break has an identity crisis. Void is just fine.

5 RepliesOne thing that rubbed me the wrong way was devour. Both overshield and invis got new purple glows to go with void, but devour got nothing. Bungie literally said em they want something to be happening when it’s something active from aspects, but there nothing. They could put like a void aura or SOMETHING. Further, both titans and hunters have a multiple ways of getting their respective buffs (OS and Invis) and a way or two of giving them to team mates, AS WELL AS ways that they actually benefit FURTHER for having their buffs (titans get melee buffs and grenade regen while Overshields and hunter get weakening melee while invis for example). Warlocks have ONE way of applying devour within their aspects, which is only slightly less difficult that the fragment way of activating it. They have no ways of giving it to their team (kinda understandable for this particular buff), no void glow effect (like mentioned before), AND no ways that they can further benefit for having it active beyond its natural effects. Both of the other two classes can literally do anything the voidlock can do just out of fragments ON TOP of everything within their own subclass benefits by using only fragments. There is no really identity to the voidlock. Nothing special, nothing they do better than the other two, it’s just bland and less-than-mid when compared to everything about the other two which are packed with identity and flair.
