Trials flawless/non flawless pool rework

PASSAGE OF CERTAINTY: This card can only be redeemed once per week, can not be discarded or reset. This passage counts only wins and not loses allowing the user to get 7 wins and a trip to the lighthouse. As a result, remove non flawless pool which is saturated by non flawless pool resetters. Leaving everyone in one mega pool (apart from on freelance week). People doing carries will still benefit from this as the person being carried can not be locked out of a lighthouse visit. This also eases the pressure on gilding the seals which is still required to get 2x lighthouse carries for someone who's not been that season. The passage expires on weekly reset so there is no carry overs. and as mentioned, can only be acquired ONCE per week. Im not sure of any downside to this approach. Bungie wanted to help people get at least 1 flawless a week and this achieves that. And at the same time alleviates the non flawless pool reset issue. This functionality already exists. - cant delete cards. - card disappear at weekly reset. - no new pools need to be made. - being able to only complete something once per week (same as weekly bounties locking out)

  • Nah the Trials population is about to drop below 200k for the first time in a year and it’s mid season. Add to that the awful weapons in the loot pool and it seriously could bottom out at below 100k players a weekend by season end. The funny thing is that I blame SBMM for this. It has reduced the pvp population in general. Appetite for the game has been lost by the hardcore. We are at end of last season pvp pop numbers at the mid season point. Bungies good intentions have led to the hardcore players leaving, the trials population tanking and the prestige of going flawless being tarnished. If the first 6 months of D2 taught Bungie anything it should of been that catering to the casual player will destroy this game. For every “I went flawless post” I see way more “stop resetting card” posts. The flawless pool devalued the very reward people were chasing. The irony.

Maybe change that card so it requires 21 wins as a trade off. Either get a guaranteed visit to the Lighthouse at the cost of additional playtime, or get a potential shortcut that requires a little more effort put into it. Maybe update the old cards so they can give an extra reward on completion. You don’t want to completely get rid of the Flawless aspect of Trials.

      • I like the idea but rewards would not be as good as a true flawless. Anyone can complete 7 wins in a weekend (non-consecutive) rewards should reflect that. Adept weapons and mementos are coveted for their rarity (and difficulty to get, I’m using difficulty very loosely here, we all know about cheaters, paid Carry’s yada yada yada) -mid stat pinnacle armor (60-64) - NON ADEPT weekly weapon - ascendant shard (rare, similar to low level nightfalls) If this is to reward current flawless loot pool items, I feel it should only be allowed once per season as once again, adept rewards and trials mementos/gear are coveted for their reason, their lack of attainability. You’ve brought up a great idea and I feel this could be seen as the “ halfway point” between what other people have called handouts vs guided flawless runs. But you’re approach is from the perspective of someone who doesn’t go flawless consistently. Put yourself in the shoes of the season level 900 who eats Doritos and mtn dew daily that goes flawless 8x a day.

          • Doubt this would be enough to get me to play trials. All trials would do is worsen my mental state. I doubt there’s any reward that would get me to play the game mode. I don’t need another reason to be disappointed and hate myself.

            • This would be better suited for a once a season, rather than once a week. Once a week guarantied flawless is an easy handout, and has no rewarding quality besides the free loot.

            • I could almost see a rework coming into a tier system of the cards. 1st card could be win counted only for a lighthouse trip maybe less rewards, then you have to get the next tier card to flawless like mercy, with (x) tier rewards and so on. Eliminate resets but make getting a new card accessible from the app or something so you don’t have to keep going to a social space.

              • Would that really feel good to play? I mean though I'm on a bit of a Destiny break right now, the joy of flawless for me always came from the fact that my friends and I are just average players so each flawless felt well fought for and earnt. I feel like if I could just lose an infinite amount of times but still go flawless would just make it boring

So make it so going flawless isn’t actually flawless? I agree the nonflawless pool is terrible but this wouldn’t fix it imo.

                • No thanks. Getting 7 wins on a card requires nothing but time, and a time commitment is far from adept. All this time spent asking for these handouts could be better spent going into trials and getting better.

So you want it just given away? What a joke😂 earn it it’s meant to be hard. No reason it should just be given to people because they think they are owed something. That’s what’s wrong with everyone they want a participation trophy instead of getting better and earning it.

                    • Passage of certainty is an L. If you can't win 7 of 8 games, you don't deserve to go the lighthouse. Period. Winning 7 out of 30 games isn't flawless and totally defeats the purpose of the mode. Hell, 7 of 8 isn't flawless either, but that's already in the game. Not much to do about it now. We shouldn't be benefitting people being carried. The opposite, actually. Need to find a way to discourage this as much as possible, especially paid carries. Can't police them out of game so need a system that discourages it greatly in-game. The carry triumph should be removed from gilding flawless. Flawless pool is trash. Freelance always. Problem solved.

                      • You want a fix to trials for the people that haven't gone flawless, just make it so no card can be reset manually unless it's a lost card. So every card but mercy you have to lose once. Mercy you have to loose twice to reset. Doesn't matter if it's after the first or 6th win. No reset. Also backing out doesn't count as a loss unless a specific amount of rounds have been lost. Now the KD farmers and teams that keep other players from going flawless can't do it without sacrificing exactly what they are trying to protect.

                        • carries are just as bad as recoveries. Both have the same strain on the trials player base.

As a guy, who plays trials mainly i think it's a pretty good idea. I don't care about other players getting adept loot. If it will increase trials population I'm down for that. I ran into a problem that nobody in my friend list want to play in the flawless pool and I don't want to play with LFG teammates, so I literally can't play trials. Can't really blame them, nobody wants to play half of their matches like it's the ultra competitive tournament, no incentives to play in the flawless pool for the same mediocre rewards. It's a win-win situation for me, easy loot for others and easier matchea for dedicated players like me.
