I enjoy using trace rifles from ager's scpeter, wavesplitter, and ruinous effigy.
One thing that's always an annoyance is how often they run out of ammo. the only exception of this is ruinous effigy solely because of it's orb.
Trace rifles ride between the lines of being a special and a primary weapon. Dealing with normal ads extremely fast, but either having to dump a lot of ammo dealing majors and bosses, or running a double special setup limiting the ammo you find even more. If the worst comes, I would be required to run special finisher draining 1/3 of my super. Even with ammo finders and reserves you can find yourself looking at your ammo count going low and having to spare your shots.
And this is only with the exotic trace rifles with their exotic buff to red bars. Legendaries have it worse.
They could have either or multiple of these to make them better. (PvE only)
1. Increase the reserves trace rifles can hold to last long enough to find ammo.
2. Increase the amount of ammo you get from all special bricks.
3. Increase special ammo drop rate when using a trace rifle.
4. Don't let other special weapons share special brick ammo with trace rifles. (Trace rifle gets full special brick gain while other special gets reduced pickup)

I mean, with finders/scavs and the option of special finisher it’s basically impossible to run out of ammo.

Edited by chad_599: 9/29/2022 8:38:43 AMI wish D2 trace rifles were more like the Laser Rifles from an old PS3 game Dust 514. Those things were great at mid to long range, melted shields but had a decrease in direct damage to none shielded opponents. They would overheat from prolonged utilization, but had a large enough reserve of ammunition but also didn't consume a magazine as quickly compared to our D2 trace rifles. So you had to manage it's use. Being mid-long range weapon with a bright beam, meant it was easy to track the beam to the operators location to counter it.

1 ReplyLower their damage scaling and make them primaries. Problem solved.
