I think its high time that we got dedicated servers heck we should have had them years ago. You want to talk about a "renewed focus on pvp" how about we start here.
Get better dedicated servers and ditch the early 2000 p2p connection system. You got that SONY money right now at your disposal and this is one of the many ways you can reap the benefits of it, NOT TO MENTION the fact that the entire game and player base would benefit from having these servers created.
Plus there wont be launch days with ques!

Agreed nothing worse then getting into a PvP match and then you are playing along and suddenly get the removed from game world message and then have temp ban for leaving. It even said you were removed. All due to the fact that there aren't dedicated servers. Makes you say see in a month maybe and where is that refund for the new expansion.
-
Agreed. Crossplay between different console families is really bad at times between Xbox and PlayStation in PvP. Needs addressing these issues such as lag and ghost bullets. If things don’t improve I’m holding off buying Lightfall.
-
Honestly, I'd rather see new PvE content with their current engine than a rework of PvP netcode, which would require a complete rewrite in a new engine to pull off.
-
3 RepliesI’m pretty sure they’ve said in the past the engine can’t support dedicated servers. They are using a maxed out version of the Tiger Engine. It’s a proprietary engine created by Bungie that was used in Halo 1, 2, 3, and Reach. I’m sure they’ve pondered with a new engine, but the issue is can they provide the same unique gunplay and movement that Destiny has on a new Engine? The only reason I still play the neglected and bad decision after decision PvP is because of the movement and gunplay. Fortunately at this rate it won’t be unique and satisfying for too much longer. They’ve already heavily unpacked it with 2 of the worst changes in history and that being Aerial Effectiveness and the Sliding nerfs

Many people think that Sony bought bungie that bungie immediately now has money to do this. That is 100% not how this works and the line of thought should be exterminated
-
2 RepliesCan’t happen. Destinys code would need a complete rewrite from the ground up. It really sucks. But that’s the truth. Be hopeful for the next game.

Edited by ApeX: 9/27/2022 8:03:29 AMThey need to do several things if pvp is ever to be "renewed" -Dedicated servers -Dedicated Team for balance (too many broken PvP builds currently on all classes) -Better ban system (SBMM exploiters should have a system ban and anyone involved) -Rapid response patches (broken -blam!- should be patched in a week tops) -Dedicated cheater reporting system. -Better mm algorithm. (The current one does not account for a low elo player in the fireteam) <--Fire the brain-dead morons who tested it.) Bungie are basically the absent father of PvP and now they want to go back like nothing happened and "pick up" where they left off. They will never fix this absolute dumpster fire of a game. I played 2 games after "SBMM" was added. Both ended in one sided mercy's. I refuse to touch this steaming pile of D0g$h1+ until they have fixed a majority of the BS above. 2 Matches was all I needed today to extend my hiatus. The PVE is fun in this game, but damn have they neglected the half of the game I actually like to play.

It will never happen. This has been a topic since D1 dropped. Going on 9 years. If it hasn’t happened yet, it will never happen.
-
Yes, in the final year or so of the 10 year plan...that's when they'll splurge for dedicated servers.
-
I don’t know why you kids think Sony’s just going to open their wallets and give Bungie an unlimited budget. That’s not how it works.

1 ReplyEdited by ty: 9/27/2022 12:08:08 PMCompletely agree, versed a 3 stack in trials with some friends the other day and versed a guy that was top .1% of trials, he wasnt missing a single lorentz as a sliding titan, had 2 vac bans on record, totally not suspect. Keep in mind, me and my friends are no where close to top .1%.

2 RepliesPlayers: dedicated servers? Bungie: Eververse cosmetics?
-
NO ITS TIME TO BAN CRONUS & XIM LIKE SMART GAME DEVELOPING COMPANIES
-
2 RepliesNo!!! After years of training I have adapted my muscle memory to shoot at laggy players. dedicated servers would undo all of that hard work lol
-
That's not how that works
-
It was time 8 years ago.

2 RepliesWe have been asking on the forums for properly tuned Regional Dedicated Host Servers since D1 Beta. You'd be more likely to witness a Virgin Birth than than this happening.
-
Ppl have been asking for this since D1, not going to happen. Bungie has already explicitly stated theyre not going to. Is it a stupid decision? Yes. Because theyll never be able to balance thia game because of it. P2P connection on hybrid servers is 90% of the problem with this game and it hits PvP the hardest which is why PvP always has been and always will be an after thought. Theres no possible way to have any form of matchmaking worth having while still on P2P and hybrid servers. But bungie is way to greedy and honestly way to incompotent and lazy to ever have or be able to manage true dedicated servers. Not to mention P2P is so baked into destinys code even in D1 they would basically have to rebuild the game from the ground up to make dedicated servers even worth it to begin with. Best you can hope for as far as D2 is concerned is for bungie to 100% seperate PvE and PvP so nerfs/buffs and balancing affects each independantly so stuff doesnt get destroyed as far as usage in either area, be it garbage or broken. They SAY this is how it is but virtually every nerf/buff or balance effort to date has proven that entirely wrong.

Their idea of renewed focus on PvP is removing CBMM from quickplay leaving us with the crappy rotator playlist, Iron Banner (which they'll probably switch in the future too) and rumble if we're players being screwed over by SBMM because they didn't address any of the actual problems first. Not to mention adding quitter penalties to control as a knee-jerk reaction instead of asking themselves what they can do to alleviate players problems with the game mode. People like True Vanguard have been saying for years that there's plenty they could look into but nope, Bungie gotta brute force the issue instead. Take the casual game mode and make it sweaty for dedicated players while addressing none of the existing issues then slap quitter penalties on. Call in 6v6 Competitive cause that's all this is. Its literally the same rules as the Competitive playlist but a different game mode.
-
I honestly cannot play pvp for fun anymore. Forget the fact that there’s sbmm now. Connections are so bad that the concept of fun has been thrown out the window. It’s incredible how pathetic Bungie has become regarding pvp. Either the top pvp players get screwed, or the casuals do. No in between. Just sad.

3 things here that you should keep in mind as to why this will never happen. 1, Luke Smith said they will never do that. 2, Bungie doesn't want to use their resources on that. 3, Destiny 2 is on its way to being dropped in a couple of years just like D1 was when D2 was released. This is why you will never see dedicated servers in D2, and you guys need to accept that the outdated P2P is here until the end of D2 life span.
-
3 RepliesI think Destiny uses a hybrid of P2P and dedicated servers. There isn't a "host", and a Bungie server controls the game's protocols and decisions. Players control their movement and abilities. I agree that it's not perfect, but Destiny's hybrid system is still much better than standard P2P systems.
-
They don't have Sony's money. This game is ending in 2 years. Issues on launch days have nothing to do with dedicated servers. In case you haven't noticed - places like the tower aren't hosted via P2P
-
5 RepliesThe same company that said f it releasing a dlc for our 5 year old game is just as good as releasing a sequel is probably not going to make major network infrastructure overhauls anytime soon. I totally sympathize with bungie if I had a massive gaggle of idiots that threw money at me regardless of what I produced I wouldn’t feel some need to over achieve. Get some perspective.
-
2 RepliesIt’s too late for them to implement this with Destiny. Due to the fact that they have a numerous amounts of data saved on their own engine that also contains the p2p system. They would have to literally transfer over data onto a new game engine to implement dedicated servers. But with this, there’ll be a loss of at least 1/3 of their data in the process, if not all of it.

4 RepliesThey can't afford them. They have 1 million players. And a few free2play players on top of that. Destinytracker.com But they have 850 employees. $100 for a Deluxe Edition per year. Minus taxes (on Bungies side) and 3rd party sellers cut (Microsoft, Steam, PS, get a cut for selling for Bungie). Whip out a calculator and see that they BARELY can afford salary for coders in Bellevue (very high cost of area). Nevermind advertising, building costs, benefits, computers, upgrades, programs (like Photoshop), etc etc. So where exactly would they get the money for dedicated servers? Maybe back when there was over 5 million players at D2 launch but Bungie has steady driven players away since without any time the decline did not decline.
