I have default melee and ability melee bound to separate keys. This works just fine for all the titan melees except for thunderclap. When pressing the melee ability button while within lunging range, you will do a lunging normal melee instead of a thunderclap. This can make it very difficult to use it sometimes, especially with exotics or abilities that increase melee lunge range.
