SBMM in crucible is an awesome change

Just leaving a post, that bungie hopefully reads. Please keep SBMM in crucible. I absolutely hated crucible before this season. Constantly being stomped on by sweats. And now I can finally enjoy matches, where deaths feel fair. Please don't listen to the YouTube/Twitch destiny players. This is the one area they are completely wrong. The view they have towards SBMM is completely toxic in my opinion. The only reason they want non SBMM is to stomp on lesser skilled players. Which turns away the less skilled players from crucible. Which in turn is responsible for the hellhole crucible was. How is it not fair to be matched up against players of similar skill? If the players you are matching up against are sweatlords, then clearly you too are a sweatlord, and you should be in those matches. Once again, please keep SBMM, it is finally allowing for crucible to be open the other 99% of players.

  • I have not noticed a difference. I am an average PvP player, maybe a bit above average, but not much. SBMM probably mostly impacts the extremes in the spectrum, but if it gets more people into playing crucible I am all for it. Seeing sweats prey on kindergardians in regular crucible playlist always rubbed me the wrong way. I think in activities like Trials or Comp anything goes , but regular crucible activities should have some level of SBMM IMO

I agree with you , anyone not agreeing is basically just whining they now have to face opponents of similar skill. They're getting a taste of their own medicine and they hate it. "The games are rigged wehhh" "There's lag everywhere weeeehhhhwehhhh" "I now have to wait 1 whole minute to queue up instead of 15 seconds WEEEEHHHHEHEHHHH" "I'm never playing Control again omg weehhhhh" Not our fault you thought you were a god and now, when facing opponents of similar skill, you realize you're just above average in your own bracket. Seriously, keep whining and downvoting this post. Won't do you no good. Destiny 2 is about retaining players, and a vocal minority of e-bullies forming stacks is upset about it EDIT : Well done Bungie, I don't play as much anymore but I love how Control feels now. It's much better.

    • For context, I stopped playing PvP outside of Mayhem ages ago due to awful connections, crossplay was the final straw given I'm on Xbox n 90% of my opponents where on psn, it was just too much. Also, seeing people complain about matching people across the country is laughable, as a UK gamer I've had lobbies full of the middle East, Russia and Asia, since 2014, be it sbmm, cbmm, makes no difference. So this week I've played 6 games, here's my scores in order of time I played them 3.33 2.87 2.75 1.70 1.25 1.08 The more I played the more I saw longer queue times, more lag and desync, a bigger influx of psn players from 5000+ miles away, more adept guns, more PvP titles, more instant deaths that didn't make sense, and now it feels like it did before sbmm was brought back. I'm now going back to not playing PvP, even for my pinnacles, not worth it at all. It's not possible to please everyone, infact it's barely possible to please anyone given the restrictions of P2P, awful maps, no incentive, no ranking, awful loot pool To bungie, my fix, as an average older gamer, now I can see both sides of destroying people with ease, then the lag, wait times, n weird BS that comes with playing better players, it's simple. Let people who WANT to play PvP, play PvP and enjoy it, for those who don't, stop forcing them in there for things. Remove sbmm, and add a weekly core quest, play any 9 core activities with a pinnacle drop at 3,6,9 completions. Give quests n catalysts a PvE and PvP option. It's a game, let people play how, and what, they want. Just my feedback

        • I get more kills in a month than you have in a lifetime.. pvp is now very difficult. You have to be on the ball every second.. does nobody ever play this game drunk and just wanna punch -blam!- in the face… seems my skill bracket is sliding shotguns with 140s or fast pulses and that is it. 💩 got bored of that combo 5 years ago 🤫

I was with you at first, but then you said "The only reason..." Yes. Good players who just want to stomp others exist. No debating that. Yes. Casual players who just want a competetive match exist. No debating that either. But guess who else exists? Good players who just want to see build variety and strong connections in their matches. Good players who just want a space where they can play with lesser skilled friends. Casual players that just straight up don't want to try and improve, whether the algorithm be SBMM or CBMM, and just do their bounties and leave, if that. All those groups exists as well (probably more). Limiting the discussion to the first two has been happening for years and HASN'T HELPED. Not even a little bit. This isn't a black and white "predatory or fair" discussion. Even Bungie acknowledged the drawbacks higher skilled players are experiencing the the new system, and yet everyone here is ignoring it entirely and sticking to that BS false dichotomy. Is anyone ever going to learn? At this point I think not. I'm just going to hope Bungie keeps taking in more and more data and really tunes the current algorithm as best as possible.

I don't play Crucible much anymore but putting skill matchmaking in what is intended to be the main casual playlist sounds like a good way to kill off the dedicated PvP players in the long run. Actually, isn't that what has happened every time they've done this? Player engagement goes up the first few weeks and then plummets as people start to finish their seasonal grind..except instead of dedicated PvP players continuing to participate in the Crucible, they avoid it because it's a 24 hour sweatfest?

                • I feel bad for all the terrible pvp players. Think about it. They aren't getting better playing against equal skills. If anything they are getting complacent. The best of the best are just going to get better as they will be sweating it out nonstop. . So once bungie goes back the CBMM the bad players are really screwed. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

                  • You hated crucible Because you were bad. People who played and were good at crucible now hate crucible because it’s unplayable because we don’t get any connection based allocation. We’re getting diluted into games of people with no skill to boost team average skill with zero connection based in a game that uses peer 2 peer. I’m glad you’re okay with people being unable to play the game. I’m glad your unwillingness to improve gives way to others losing their past time.

All these SBMM appreciation posts are completely one-sided. Rename your posts to "SBMM is an awesome change for NON pvp mains". For pvp players who are average or above, this change completely ruined the entire pvp experience. And no, we don't need "noobs" to farm. We just don't want to participate in a meta slave championship every single casual quickplay round in this casual pve shooter. In balanced and competitive games, i am all for sbmm aswell. In this CASUAL mess tho? Nah i aint trying to win a tournament in quickplay.

*This is about sbmm itself* The main problem with sbmm and why it’s not balanced is matching against a team of decent players while being the only decent one on your team(or one of 3 at best). That’s if those other good players on your team stay. I’ll be the only silver or Diamond ranked player facing 3-4 on average on the opp team. Meanwhile, I have bronze and gold ranked players who somehow met the criteria of being on my skill level (when they clearly aren’t). …and don’t get me started on connection.

                          • Its not fair because the way the algorithm is set up is that it forces you to have a 50% w/l ratio or somewhere close to that, give or take a percentile or two. SBMM forces 50% win loss ratio really hard, which is why a lot of the time, at least when I play, it feels like I'm just on a hard rotation of win-lose-win-lose over and over again.

                          • I’m glad you got your pinnacle for the week, I guess you will be stepping in to the crucible at reset again? Bungie should cater to those who spend time in the crucible.

                          • "I love sbmm" Has played 5 games of control since the changes This is another issue everyone who loves the changes doesn't play for more than a pinnacle so why should MM make a difference.

                            • your essentially saying that if you played the game and got good at it you don't deserve to play with your friends that are not as good at the game. you may say SBMM is better for lower skilled players but you also have to look at how it affects who you can play with in the community.

                            • A lot of the negative responses to your OP are arguing like this is a switch from pure CBMM to pure SBMM therefore all bad for above average PVP players... The point of the new loose SBMM is to arrive at a happy medium whereby below average & new lights aren't getting pub-stomped every match by toxic stacks, while above average are not sweating in every single game As latest TWAB shows, Bungie are trying to optimise towards a better MM balance. However, those with inflated stats gained from stomping lower level players in CBMM will have a period where their matches are very tough until they find their true level. Which is a shame (ROFL)...

                            • Sweatlords will just create new accounts to stomp on lesser skilled players. Good pvp players will just have a host who is terrible at pvp be lead as it seems matchmaking is by host and not total party skill. Once the population dips more and matches take longer, the pvp match band will increase. SBMM is yet another experiment they will try for a season or two then ditch it. I bet in two or three months you'll be complaining that pvp stinks and isn't fair blah blah blah

                                • I finally got in there and banged around yesterday. Good matches overall with a slight hint of lag at times. KDAs ranged from .6 to 2.0+, but no 40 kill dudes to be found. Overall I would say a better experience, but I do understand the counter argument as the fun is over for the high skill guys. No one was backing out of my lobbies during gameplay like has been reported. I would suspect those are (wanna be) good players that can’t hang with their statistically calculated equals. Sbmm will be the ultimate reality check for those players, who no longer can lfg a fireteam and pub stomp a lobby of solos. Hate that for those guys.🤣

                                • It great ! Pvp is actually fun now. Plus I love that the tryhards have to play against other try hards. Its it crazy to me that we've reached a point where entitlement is so high, that people are literally asking a game developer to revert changes so they can destroy low level/less skilled players. They don't even try try to hide it 😄 It's just "It's not fair that I have to put forth effort in pvp now" "I don't want to play against other good players" ITS A COMPETITIVE GAME MODE ! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ?!?!
