SBMM isn't what you actually want.

Real talk coming from someone who does a fair bit more crucible than the average player and doesn't consider themselves a sweat or a noob. Yes SBMM has both positives and negatives. And for some their experience may improve from it. But I'm here to talk majority and shed light for those who are blind to the imperfections. SBMM is not a perfect system. No game does it perfectly and it has its ups and downs. To start with right off the bat, no; it does NOT prevent you from solo queueing into a match where there is a 6-stack clan on the enemy team. That will happen until they specifically target that "feature" to fix. In fact in my experience so far it seems to happen more often now but I'm going with the ladder and saying I just have bad luck on that. Second off is the matchmaking itself. I see it time and time again in games. You wafflestomp players you have no business playing against, then you get shot up into the next bracket and it's like the gates of hell was released and you start playing against people you really wish would throw in the towel and press that uninstall button. After a loss or two from that it's right back to the other extreme. You will almost never find a middle ground you are perfectly happy with and stay there. It always fluctuates where it thinks you belong in the matchmaking. Third, and this is for the more advanced players and I'm sure you know this. Queue times. Sitting there waiting for 10 minutes for a match is not acceptable. That's something that you see regularly in a game like overwatch where it can take upwards of 30 minutes to find a match. The better you get the longer you sit floating in space. Not ideal. And final to my final point. There will ALWAYS be someone better than you. If you think SBMM is going to save you from that it's not. Someone could always Smurf easy. On top of that, if this is like other SBMM which it seems to be, someone could abandon matches on purpose to lower their elo just like people do in games like modern call of duties, or Halo infinite. And that's about it. Love it or hate it facts backed by research aren't opinions. If my tags are bad it's because I've never added additional tags before so you'll have to forgive me on that department. Fight on Guardians.

  • I don’t play Control, but I’ve played a tonne of Elimination and Survival (both loose SBMM). Never experienced 10 minute queue times. Never had the yo-yo skill bracket experience you described. Those things shouldn’t happen in loose SBMM. If that’s happening in Control at the moment, there needs to be some adjustment at Bungie’s end - they said they would be tuning matchmaking, especially for the very lowest and very highest rated players. I do agree that both CBMM and SBMM have their positives and negatives.

    • Don't forget that since it doesn't care about connection anymore you'll be playing against player farther away and you'll see more ghost bullets and teleporting players.

    • SBMM is always a -blam!- time when it first gets implimented because chances are the system has not yet calculated what your "skill level" is (if my past few games were anything to go by). It's honestly going to take a few weeks for the system to figure out who's skilled and who's a slide shotgunning Titan (for legal reasons I must advise that this is a joke)

    • You’re right I don’t want super skill based matchmaking

      • People don't want fair matches they want forced wins.
