Genuine advice for anyone who wants to get into PvP in this game.

PVP is the most engaging, fun and challenging mode in Destiny 2. If you're a new player, it is difficult to get a good PVP build, but once you have a build that supports the way you enjoy playing, it's a blast. Pretty much every loadout is viable at the moment, so there's no wrong choice!
