After bungies supremely stupid idea to put SBMM in control for longer game wait times in a mode that doesn't matter at all, is there any idea on whether or not this is going to be in the works for actual comp game modes where it truly matters?? Because I don't think I'm alone here but I'm tired of getting stomped by people with a skill level that matches that of people like Frost and ZK because they want to run carries all weekend and they just reset their card all weekend long. Just got 5-0ed by two people who have won (at the time of this post) 236 and 215 (respectively) while only losing 17 and 14 games. Like okay I get it you're better than me and its very evident. But losing to somebody who has a 94% win rate in just this weekend alone is absolutely absurd. This is why freelance trials is amazing for me because I can ACTUALLY go flawless because I don't have people like this in my game doing a duo carry and just smashing any and every player they come across all weekend. In my own opinion Bungie needs to do some SERIOUS work to the PVP on this game because its long since been in the trash, but its just getting progressively worse with each passing week. Its already plenty evident that they have zero clue on how to balance the game correctly but its getting almost to the point of where I'd say that the teams that manage the game are completely incompetent.

8 RepliesI’ve talked to a few people who chose not to go flawless just out of curiosity. They pretty much said the same thing, they just wanted to have fun with their friends, because being in the flawless pool gets to be too serious and takes the fun away. That is very shortened and third person explanation so it doesn’t cover the entirety of the opinion. And that’s what games should be about, fun with friends. So in a sense, I get it. I am in a similar position as you. I’m a good player, not great, not bad, just good. And matching people who are way better sucks. But I suppose, try to see that they’re having fun in their own way, and yes not going flawless because of it sucks, but like I have, there are ways to just enjoy the time spent with friends anyway. I hope that friends a little bit of opposing view that helps.

👀 the servers/ peer to peer is what contributes to wait time lol plus destiny PvP has been in shambles so long the player base is minuscule asf. Take trials for instance, the OVERALL weekend player count has been under 300k now divide PC/console and you’ve probably got less than 150k daily on each side. Halo reach has faster matchmaking with a fraction of the playerbase with sbmm. Slow wait time was an excuse, Most don’t care about Lightning speed matchmaking when it comes at the cost of quality. 🙄

2 RepliesAre you playing solo during team weeks? You're just not going to go flawless doing that. I wonder if trials would ever actually end up with freelance more often because so many "casual" players play solo. That would be the only way that would happen. Keep asking for it, it might happen.

But I am going to make this short and easy. I couldn’t care less about control match making. Because it is less skill demanding and half the maps you play on are usually too small sometimes even too big. If I could have it my way, I would only put SBMM in Rumble, and in Elimination. Obviously keep SBMM in the comp playlists. Because unless you are solo queueing elimination, wait times aren’t really that bad, and rumble is all solo queue.

But they were clearly carry accounts. They must do it all the time and so because they are sweats playing I lower brackets they are winning most of the time

2 RepliesThis topic confuses the hell out of me honestly. Some of the most successful competitive games. Hell, EVERY successful competitive game pits players of the same skill level against each other. TLDR of Para 1: control and “for fun” modes really just don’t need that strict of SBMM. TLDR of Para 2: What’s competitive about stomping people? Literally no competitive system works like this. Para 1: You show up to a YMCA and people are playing pick-up ball. You may see junior high, Highschool and college level ball players. All playing the same game. This is our (control playlist). Little to no stakes. And how could there be? The teams are unbalanced, there is no referee, rule breaking abounds. No one has a problem with this as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. If Lebron James shows up… now that’s a problem. The fun part about Lebron showing up means that he’s not out to dunk on 8th graders. He would much rather play against people close to his skill level. Now enters the idea that the destiny community is apparently having a hard time with. Para 2: If Lebron (or someone at Lebron skill level, to remove the sycophantic bias of people just wanting to see him) sticks around that YMCA and continues to dunk on kids, Highschool players, collegiate players etc. guess who’s NOT coming back to play. All of these aforementioned players. They’re getting better in increments. But it’s not worth their time and energy. More so Lebron (or Lebron-like) would tire of a lack of difficulty, resulting in what we see today in different tiers of still competitive but varying levels of skill) of skill. The “normies” would be getting much better playing against their piers and practicing the things they are capable of. This Lebron player. The ZK, wallah, frost players are so far from obtainable not because “you need to practice more”. They have made it their job. Their 9-5 and often more. It’s a level of commitment that the average destiny player CANT reach. I’m not capable of saying SBMM will make destiny the “funnest” (most fun?) it will ever be. I don’t have the data for it. What bungie, the community, and myself for sure have the data for is looking at other competitive game models. See example above or any other. (League of Legends, Counterstrike, Valorant, etc etc. Literally every game I know of with a competitive mode) You play against other people until you’ve improved and when you do, or don’t. You move up and down correlated to your win/loss ratio.

I like how you point out the big negatives of sbmm and in the same breath say it should be added to a playlist with less than half the population and still think it will benefit you.

This is why freelance trials is amazing for me because I can ACTUALLY go flawless because I don't have people like this in my game doing a duo carry and just smashing any and every player they come across all weekend.
Translation: I am not good enough to fight and win in normal Trials, so I want Freelance to be carried for free by better players. This is also why the Flawless playlist should be removed so losers who abuse it to do paid carries/recovs couldn't anymore (and should be banned for it).

4 RepliesIt’s already in Comp and has been for maybe 2-3 years. Trials needs help with matchmaking but it’s a tournament and the path to flawless shouldn’t be the same difficulty for low skill players vs high skill players when the rewards are the same.

Comp nah, trials nah.

3 RepliesEdited by NeoReaper82: 8/8/2022 6:28:49 PMA rework of trials is coming(IMO S19 or later). Flawless won't be the only way to go to the lighthouse & numerous content creators think and want it to happen as well. Like 21(or more) wins. If this happens then the flawless pool should be removed.
-
It is going to control because Bungie is using it’s player base as free game testers again instead of releasing an already tested and working product. More people play control then any other pvp mode.
-
18 RepliesTrials is intended for the high skilled, sweaty, stomping players you mention. My opinion is, different playlists should cater to different types of player. Let them have Trials. Other playlists should cater for other types of player.

5 RepliesEdited by I am kevin: 8/8/2022 1:41:23 PMYeah bungie why is your endgame not made Easy’r for ppl like me, why do I have to play ppl with greater skill freaking hate this ppl f-them. I want trials only against equal or low-skilled players. Make it happen or you game s-cks

13 RepliesI highly doubt loose sbmm will stick around in control after next season, Bungie is probably testing their match making in a larger player pool so they can implement it in comps revamp the season after next.
-
6 RepliesIt already is in survival (what used to be comp). Trials is the mode it makes least sense for and that will never happen, they're not quite that stupid.

Bungie needs to balance the game, not attempt to turn the only bit of good and somewhat difficult PvP based loot in to a participation trophy. You don’t get to go in to master raid challenges severely under light with the wrong gear and little concept of how the encounter works then walk away with all the gear, why do people demand PvP be like this?
-
I agree. The notion that you have to play in the same level as people who do this for a living is absurd. That is not what that playlist is. And to be completely honest, they just brought it back because they didn’t want to revamp comp. It’s the same thing. Elimination with golden armor and Saint-14 annoying the living hell out of you with his three and a half comments on a random rotation instead of Shaxx.
