I'm on Xbox, playing momentum (hardcore pretty much) and I've noticed a pattern. I can kill Xbox players very easily like in other games but playstation players take forever to kill, often not taking damage at all, teleporting, warping.
The frustration is real when I'm shooting a guy in his back, he takes 0 damage, turns and 1 hits me.
Is this normal? Not sticking around if it is
Also, every lobby has 9-11 psn players and 1-2 Xbox, gambit too, is this normal also?
Game is pretty fun but once I played PvP i felt like giving up. I feel the lag and crossplay issues are something I cant overcome if it's normal, it's just not enjoyable.
To add, im on fibre internet, new gen Xbox, and I've played shooters for many years, I've no issues now, no issues on any game ever, but this, this is something beyond broken (if it's normal). How do people play it every day, seen people with 700k PvP kills

Because Destiny has to deal with both Peer-to-Peer-based gameplay (which is bad enough) AND Sony not playing well with others (they’re extremely dodgy on crossplay due to security concerns and only do it at all because of the massive demand for it). Either/or would make any multiplayer iffy at best; both makes it a nightmare. Too bad you can only turn off PC/console crossplay and not also inter-console crossplay.

Playstation is a lot more popular, especially in Europe, and therefore you’ll see more of us. The crossplay lag goes both ways, we experience the same issues against Xbox players all the time, and while Playstation has the majority in most console lobbies it still makes the match unplayable when you have a few opponents that don’t take damage. Its been like this for months ever since crossplay was introduced and Bungie refuses to even acknowledge issue. If i queue with a PC player into PC lobbies i usually have no significant issues so in my experience at least it is an issue between XBL and PSN. With that said, even without crossplay the game has always had lag issues because it uses a P2P-system and your own connection is not the only factor, they also do a poor job in geolocation which often results in multicontinent or continent wide lobbies which will always be laggy, and on top of that next season they will add skill based matchmaking on top of this lag fest which will make it even worse than it already is since you will have less people in your matchmaking pool and therefore even less likely to get players from the same region as you. Bungie has neglected the pvp side of the game for years, connection quality is something they clearly dont care at all about since they only tested these crossplay connections in strikes and are adding SBMM to a system that already has constant issues, every season they introduce something that is so strong that it dictates the meta and leave it as is for monts at a time, and years ago when they said they will have renewed focus in pvp all they did was pull some maps from the rotation and returned them later basically unchanged with equally shitty spawns and went silent after that.

2 RepliesDestiny 2 lag is virtually non existent. If you’re you’re experiencing lag it’s on your end bud.. sorry

The TLDR is that Bungie doesn't use dedicated, instead they use a hybrid peer to peer system which makes crossplay between different consoles and different generations of console much worse than it should be.

13 RepliesEdited by PapaSohan: 8/8/2022 2:31:57 PMI play lots of crucible on Xbox Series X with a good internet connection. I don't have many problems. Then again, I am in the Northeast US where there is probably a decent, local playerbase I can get matched with. I've been matched with others who are obviously in other areas of the world and that's when things really break down. But, it would be the same for any pvp game, where latency due to location is a problem (except that Bungie does a particularly poor job of dealing with this via p2p). The issue with Destiny is that the pvp playerbase, this late in the season and the life of the game, is very low. So you are more likely to get matched with others very far away. All that said, I still have lots of fun in the crucible.

4 RepliesEveryone has issues when psn players are in lobby, they should just have psn only play psn. Xbox won’t have issues with the others only psn.

Because… Bungie!

Crucible is an absolute shitshow. It’s unlikely that it will ever get much better than it currently is. Bungie’s more capable dev teams are all working on Matter and other projects. D2 is pretty much supported by a liveteam as far as game development/support is concerned. Destiny 2 is only kept going as a source of revenue to support Bungie’s other projects. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more ‘artists’ working on Eververse than there are dev staff working on D2. -
It’s a placebo effect. Destiny doesn’t use fully dedicated servers like literally every other multiplayer game and instead uses Bungie’s own “peer to peer hybrid” system. It’s made connections awful even since D1 but they haven’t acknowledged the glaring issues since 2014.

3 RepliesI believe you can turn off cross play in settings.

3 RepliesEdited by LiftAnEye: 8/7/2022 5:03:13 PMPeer to peer is how Bungie looks after the players. This applies to their terrible approach to networking. It also applies to how these forums are monitored. Bungie likes to wash their hands of responsibility and leave it to individuals to sort out. Which is why balance, fairness and security take a back seat to profit. Welcome, guardian.

1 ReplyI get your complaints. Us psn users feel the same about xbox players too. Its Bungies servers psn and Xbox don't mix well with their systems.

8 RepliesIt's mainly because real men play on PS5. And real men are harder to kill 😎

1 ReplyDon’t play Destiny for its pvp, and you won’t waste anymore time on this forums.

Because it's not a PvP game

20 RepliesIt happens to us PS users too when playing against Xbox. I fear the unfair matches when I see a 3 stack on Xbox.

It's not broken. It's working as intended.

Unfortunately this is the norm, crucible is a -blam!- experience now and it never seems to get better only worse. P2P connections coupled with crossplay is an absolute disaster. I used to play pvp quite often but now rarely as it just annoys me. Will anything ever be done about it? Absolutely not and the new change they are going to implement is only going to make things worse. It does not matter if its SBMM or CBMM if we are using p2p systems from the 20th century!!!!!

2 RepliesI never seen anyone with 700k kills… that’s an awful lot of kills. Considering I work and have about 460,000 I’d say it is possible to the unemployed
-
Haha I have the exact opposite experience. I’m on ps5 and all of my lobbies are full of Xbox players, usually about 80/20. Laggy as hell too.
-
Could be many things, lag, peer to peer BS, or simply losing your aim assist on a hunter that dodged and got his health back from classy restoration. Welcome to destiny, the most casual and BS fps you will ever play.

5 RepliesI have a video of me emptying a full clip of smg into someone's back in Momentum only for them to turn around and blast me with a shotgun. I have a video of someone going from right in front of me, to coming through the wall beside me. I have a video of someone's character model shrinking to about 1/5 of what it should be every time they jump. Could be cheats, could be bad netcode, could be radiation from solar rays.... Whatever it is, It doesn't happen in other games, and that's why I refuse to step foot in Crucible.

1 ReplyBungie don’t care about pvp. If they did, they would have implemented a better engine and dedicated servers for players to utilize. Look at All the games that have an emphasis on PVP. Overwatch, Halo, COD, etc. All those games are played on dedicated servers because lag and network connection is important for a balanced game that is to be respected as such. Destiny is a PVE game with PVP tacked on for hell of it. Every decision Bungie has made in terms of “improvement” or “innovation” has gone like a lead balloon. Anyone remember the MLG event with that stupid collecting engrams game mode? Yeah what a -blam!- joke.

5 RepliesThe fact that this game still has a population that plays PvP is truly a miracle. I am not exaggerating. It is truly a miracle in all the meaning of the word.
