Game Constantly Crashing

Hello, The game has been randomly freezing the last couple of weeks while playing, sometimes in GMs, sometimes in PvP, sometimes even just out on patrol or in the tower. The game would not crash to desktop, just freeze. Couldn't Alt-Tab out of it, couldn't launch Task Manager to end process (the Destiny window would stay on top). This requires a hard restart of my computer (holding power till it turns off, then turning back on and restarting the game). Also for the same past couple of weeks, every time I started the game up, it would freeze like shown in the video but not crash to desktop, just freeze. Sometimes it would not even reach the signing in page, it would get stuck in the dark blue/teal screen with the rotating symbols. Hard restarting my computer and relaunching fixed it. If I started the game minimized, it still wouldn't load, and clicking the icon on my Taskbar would yield no results. For the past few hours, every time I have tried to start the game, it has been as shown. Sometimes I will get a Centipede error, though my connection is fine. This leads me back to the screen with The Witch Queen on it, and clicking then causes the same problems as shown. I have verified game files, but to no avail. All my drivers are up to date. I have scanned my drive for errors. I have used the Windows System File Checker. Windows Event Viewer doesn't show me anything related to Destiny 2 Help please? Thank you

  • Like tchakael mentioned, the previous nVidia drivers (from June 28) would cause Destiny 2 to crash at startup or later. This was mentioned as a known issue in the nVidia Release Notes. For me it worked to roll back to 512.95 during the summer. The latest nVidia drivers, 516.94, released August 9, seems to have fixed the issue. I've used them since a couple of days with no issues and the nVidia Release Notes claims that this issue has been fixed.

  • Hi, Do you have a Nvidia GPU? There's a known issue with the latest drivers causing Destiny 2 to crash or freeze. Rolling back to version 512.95 or using the hotfix available here fixes the issue for now. The Centipede error indicates a network issue usualy caused by sunden changes in the network, blocking the communication between your game and Destiny's servers. You can review the Network Troubleshooting Guide to check if your home network is properly configured, but it may be something that only your internet provider can fix.

    • If this is something that you have only been recently experiencing, it may be linked to a current known bug that is affecting a few key features of connectivity between the servers and users. One will mostly see these types of crashes during the validation stage of entering events or fireteams.
