OK so 65 Solstice gear upgrading to...
...59 shouldn't be happening.
Even 65 to 64 is just not UPGRADED. The "small chance" is actually very common indeed.
Then adding insult to injury actually destroying 65 stat items to 59 when 'upgrading' is why this year's Solstice of Heroes belongs in the Solstice bonfire.

2 RepliesThink of it as a game of higher or lower with the possible rolls going from 59 to 68. You'd be daft to gamble on a 65 going higher as its only a 3 in 6 chance of doing so. You should stick at 65 and roll another piece of armour.

18 RepliesQuestion is, why are you so upset about this when umbral focusing is so much easier to do? I've gotten max/god roll armor in each slot for my Titan this season that way exclusively. Who cares? Make em glow or don't. But nobody should care about the stats when we aren't gonna keep any of this stuff after the event, anyways.

2 RepliesYeah... i HAD a really great overall stat distrobution with good overall numbers on my chest piece, but needed to upgrade it to finish the quest which tanked the stats as you experienced. Not a fun moment

1 ReplyI have only finished 4 pieces and the best result mirrored the lowest piece of armor I have had for 4 seasons. It is a monumental waste of time and a punishment for those that grind.

Did enough for the "tutorial" of the event And haven't cared since. The ideal of it is great. But with Bungies rng..... Hard pass. In bungo fashion 1 step forward 5 back..

They are stupid… can run POH or duality boss cp in under 5 minutes and guarantee high stat armor. F for Bungie.

Here's the deal, there's two possibilities: 1 - Bungie deliberately coded it to work this way. 2 - Bungie, being as rushed as they are to put out 'content' that's always ends up riddled with bugs, did a piss poor job of coding the event and instead tried to make it appear this was a deliberate design decision. Either way, it's a big case of sticking the middle finger up to players. Why on earth would you want to grind out the same activites you've been doing forever only to potentially make your gear WORSE? It's literally a piss take and whoever it was at Bungie that greenlit this seriously needs fired. Nothing personal, but that's inept desicion making at best and shows zero respect for the time investment this 'event' asks. But hey, it's okay because the shiny new event card system was obviously priorisited and had the most effort dedicated to it. *Afterthought* - who knows, maybe next year the upgraded event card will allow players to negate the chance of armor downgrading. Better get that wallet handy Guardian!

Grind as much armor as you can and then place your decent stat upgraded and not fully-upgraded armor in your vault. See what happens after event. Risen and Haunted armors seem to yield better results.

All the more reason why I have avoided this dumb event because they gave us trash gear to begin with and then expect us to waste time and effort for THIS. Nope..... I am grinding better gear and rocking triple 100 stats currently without this worthless event.

Weird exotic drops are common from legendary lost sectors and they certainly aren't and yet the low chance to degrade happens quite frequently

Yep. That's why I'm not even tried to grind for armor. I've got not bad armor for titan and warlock. Now I'm only doing weekly bounty from Eva. More then that, first week of soltice grind was so big, that i have bounties enough not to play in Destiny whole next week (do must do two weeklys from Eva).

In this event, with two Guardians fully finished with the glow upgrade quests, I have gotten exactly ONE piece of armor worth keeping out of dozens of pieces upgraded. The occasional chance of a downgrade of stats is more like every second piece. But on the upside I have pumped up my Bright Dust a lot by doing the bounties and have added tons of Legendary shards to my inventory by dismantling armor and almost all of the mediocre weapons in the event. The event needs a serious rework next season.
