Not responding on startup

Hi Bungie and guardians, the game is crashing just before the character select screen 90% of the time i start the game. Fresh installs, different Wi-Fi connections and even verifying the files doesn't do anything. I've tried clearing the cache and everything. when it stops responding i have to do a full restart cause i cant use task manager because the game doesn't allow me to access that window. please help

Having the exact same issue. On 512.95 drivers, never installed the newer drivers that apparently have problems. This problem only started after the most recent Destiny 2 patch, game worked fine last week.

        • Yo, I actually was able to fix this issue by disabling the shader cache in the nVidia control panel. This would of course only work if you're using a nVidia GPU, but after I did this I was able to load in normally. I also just went and did some activities with no issues. I did notice one minor thing where there is a microstutter when the character selection screen comes up, but beyond that the game seems to be running perfectly fine.

Having the same issues, over the last fortnight had a few weird in game hard freezes usually as I was about to launch a mission from orbit. Then started getting freezes on the opening animations on startup, got into game yesterday and played a few missions, now can't get past an immediate freeze on the startup screen tried at least 10 times now (audio still plays). system is Ryzen 5900x, 32GB ram, 3090 card. using Geforce Experience on drive 516.59. (Graphic card temp never above 56 degrees)

          • having this same exact issue myself. It seems like it only does it for me if I tab out after signing into the game (using windowed fullscreen to clarify) but I'm gonna try rolling back to the 512.95 drivers with Nvidia and see if that fixes it for me. I'll keep you updated!
