Trials is a toxic cesspool because of the community.

Firstly, I typically really like trials. I really do enjoy PVP. And whilst aint no pvp sweat lord, I aint absolutely terrible either, I like to think I sit in the middle of playing as a team and not charge slide shotgunning with chaperone every round. But regardless. 90-95% of the people you meet in trials are pure venom. And whilst I dont care much, the messaging after a game is getting ridiculous, with a few of my friends just deciding to no longer play trials because they just don't want to deal with it when they are playing a game to try have fun and detach from the world. One match in particular today (in which my LFG team lost) I made clutch save by dropping shield on 2 enemy ghosts and managing to clip the 3rd enemy with my chaperone to get the win. With them being low due to the shield, to which I immediately get messaged all sorts of -blam!- because of it (even though they indeed were also crutching on chaperone, but sliding face first into every fight). Then the rounds proceeding result in me being emoted and bagged when and if I died. Which is surprising cause the match went 5-4 in their favour and I did pretty well. Now I dont get triggered by that sort of thing. But I know it upsets a lot of people, because its purely disrespectful. Basically there was no real need on their part in that situation to get toxic, -blam!- happens. But no, with almost every trials game, it becomes toxic. Wither its messaging, emoting, bagging or other. As a community we have let Trials get egregious, Bungie as a developer has let trials become a den of toxicity. With no real way to either report (apart from incredibly vague reporting options) particular types of griefing, or reporting people attacking you for it through your platform etc. Be better community. Trials, crucible etc should be fun and a way to detach from the stresses of life. Not become an additional one. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, I'm sure this will be replied with the stereotypical 'get gud' comments. EDIT *** Clearly people are completely missing the point of this post and in many regards are reinforcing it with their naivety and general disrespectful nature with attacking others who comment. As mentioned, this reinforces the toxicity within this community which is a real shame. We should be better to one-another, but apparently, hidden safely behind screens people are willing to still spew their toxicity onto people. If a mod sees this. Just lock it down. I’m done with a post that’s trying to raise awareness to a larger issue. Be better people.

    • Turn off messaging except from friends. I think that triggers the toxic tryhards more than anything. It is like putting a muzzle on them and they just stew thinking about what they wish they could say. Lol

      • So I'm confused. What is this post suppose to achieve? Are the people you speak about randomly gonna not be toxic people anymore? Like is this post suppose to better human beings behaviours somehow? Or like, do you want Bungie to somehow fix people's toxic personalities?

        • In one of my games last night, watched a warlock place a well on the zone on the bridge and then fall trying to kill me. Then his teammate ran in and tried to blade barrage me and missed. Final round 4-4 both my teammates were dead so i placed ward on zone. Those same two rushed me with a shotgun and killed me. Then they started bagging. I cannot fathom why.

          • Unfortunately; Behavioral Science isn't core education, so figuring out root-cause analysis is becoming more and more unlikely. Bungie profits from conflict, as do most games. It's gaming psychology101 now; and you can't expect the wealthiest nation in human history to have the best public educational system... or barely be among the top 100 industrialized nations in the world. Hurray pure capitalism!

            • Yea, sorry man but everything you just typed amounts to nothing. Nobody can make anybody do or not do anything, and the suggestion of having someone force them otherwise is dangerous. Hater's gonna hate. The salty will always be salty. Unless what they're doing is causing you actual physical harm, then its more your problem letting it get to ya. Dont get me wrong, i've had moments where i would straight up lose my mind over the tomfoolery of trials. But i dont go in there to have "fun", i go in under the delusion that maybe i'll get 7 straight wins with randos, so i fully expect to suffer. My advice, dont take it too seriously. And if that doesnt work, go somewhere else and take a break from it.

            • Dude, we can literally see your match history. You never touched chap this week. Also, who tf cares if you’re being bagged or get a message? People do it to me because of my loadout and I respond by Rolling them out like a Persian rug. You gotta be pretty insecure to let these people get to you ngl. Most toxic people like that just farm qp for stats and get ran when they play actual good players ¯ \_(ツ)_/¯

                  • Probably just Nostalgia goggles, but don’t seem to remember Destiny 1 trials having anywhere near the toxicity or issues that it currently has. The differences between how the two games played (and the playerbases they have cultivated) are becoming more and more divided.

                    • no, trials is a toxic mess on Chernobyl levels cuz the way bungie made it at the end of the game Destiny is a LOOT BASED game, not a MMO if youre -blam!- enough to believe that and keep in mind I -blam!- hate trials people get mad at trails and shout out "solution" remember when trials came back ? everyone and their mother where farming the shotgun in week 2, if you could get past the 3ºW you got a straight shot to the light house remember flawless pool ? yeah all that did was when the pro players got their glowie armor, all they'd do is farm trials engrams, cuz once you get the one, saint will re roll it thats why lower skilled players leave, cuz they get paird with light house players all the -blam!- time theres no incentive to lower skilled players to go to the meat grinder, even tho things like you get paired with people on their 6º match while youre on your 1º, meaning a free 7ºW for the other team, theres no incentive to play it cuz right now, the ez way to get the gear is get it once, then wait for the 2XP week, grab a pair of LFG's and throw every match, youll get more ranks cuz of volume

                    • I mean comparing emoting and bagging to the racial/-blam!-/violent and other derogatory things that get in messages is laughable. So I won’t say git gud. I’ll say get a spine.

Trials was a mistake. I don't mean bringing trials back, I mean having ever added it to the game. And I mean that. In Destiny 1 you had the pvp centered players, and the pve centered players, and they mostly got along with one another. There were flare ups but nothing too big. With the introduction of Trials that changed very rapidly. It was this which drew in a lot of very toxic minded people. That plus tweets from the dev such as "It is absolutely intended that Trials should not feel rewarding to most players". Which is ultimately what lead us to where we are now. Where are we now? The game is largely broken down into two categories. Unrewarding uper easy gameplay where you almost have to try to die, and tryhard mania. You know there was once a version of the strikes playlist that was challenging without being stupid, now you either get to play the strike playlist on mental autopilot or grind the same damn strike over and over till you feel like your going to puke if you play it one more time. They need to get rid of the damned champion system and go back to having engaging gameplay that's not too easy but not the fanatical -blam!- worship of difficulty and that applies to pvp also. There is a reason why Saint is being nice to you when you loose. It's because they're trying to walk back some of the toxicity and it just isn't working. Far as I'm concerned every time you go flawless in a season it should move you up a notch on the matchmaking system. The higher your ranking on that list the less you'll see low skill easy players and the more you'll have to deal with other players who have gone flawless over and over and over again. The tryhards should absolutely get to have their fun at the start of the season, but as the season progresses if you go flawless too much you're going to have to play with other flawless players. And by flawless I mean having won seven games in a row, not based on what your card says. So for them the system gets harder every weekend of the season, for everyone else it becomes easier. I would prefer this over the flawless pool which honestly barely works. Let people have their fun at the start of the season, let everyone else have their turn as the season progresses.

I hate negative messages and toxicity as much as anyone, but this is true of basically every shooter I've played. I've completed about 700 matches of Trials and only received ~10 hateful messages. Emoting and bagging is kind of par for the course, tbh. I generally avoid it, but some people love it. Thing is, most of the hate mail I get is so wildly irrational. The last guy who messaged me complained that my team steamrolled him because we were crutching fusions. I looked back and literally we got two kills with fusions that game. This is to say nothing of the irrationality of saying that someone is crutching on an entire weapon archetype, especially when there are ridiculous outliers in the game someone could truly crutch on. Most of these people are not worth responding to, and they definitely aren't worth your time and energy.

                        • So you don't get triggered by players bagging and emoting you, but the whole reason you made this post is to complain about people bagging and emoting. My dude, that's called being triggered.

I t bag so that people get angry and make mistakes. "Now I dont get triggered by that sort of thing. But I know it upsets a lot of people, because its purely disrespectful." Sorry but if you came to the forum to post about getting T bagged, then you 100% got triggered by it.

                          • I may be the only one that enjoys getting hate mail. Means I did something right. I generally don't respond to them unless they are witty. The rest of the toxic -blam!- I could care about. We won, you lost, get over it and move on is my attitude. I give a -blam!- about teabagging or emoting. It's a competitive game mode so stuff like that will happen. Doesn't effect my day one way or another. There is always another round.
