Real quick, I'd like to preface the following statement with a clarification that I do NOT endorse taking advantage of in-game glitches or exploits that bypass any intended system that's in place. That being said, I think that legendary shards are such a highly stockpiled resource/currency at this point in the game's lifespan, that they're to the point where they make this exploit trivial and 100% harmless. Even if you don't have a pile of legendary shards on-hand, how much of a negative impact could it possibly have on D2's economy? If nothing else, maybe it gives New Light's enough resources to finally purchase the upgrade modules they need to ditch the blue gear and infuse the legendary gear they've been sitting on. I know a lot of other players will agree with my opinion that it's probably time to phase out legendary shards as a currency altogether. Either way, this is a rare instance with a glitch where I'd just recommend you "live and let live." Sorry for writing an entire novel.. 🤷
