Story and gameplay spoilers for those who haven’t played the new dungeon. Okay so I’ve played Duality 3 times today and I will say from a visual standpoint this dungeon was beautiful, I also enjoyed the main mechanic and how it was used. However all 3 times I’ve fought the final boss I have found it extremely tedious and aggravating. The boss requires 2 phases of teleporting into the Nightmare realm, defeating 2 psions while also defeating bellkeepers, using the bell to escape, dunking, and then going to do the steps for damage phase, sounds simple enough right? During each of the first 2 phases leading up to the boss phase there is what I consider to be the most amount of ads I have ever seen placed inside of a boss arena, once you are inside the nightmare realm it is nothing but absolute sweating and praying as you are on a considerably short timer and taking out bellkeepers is not as smooth as it sounds as you have multiple colossus’s shooting at you, tons of war beasts, and psions that if you kill penalize you on your already short time, I heavily believe that you should be able to drop the symbols upon death as dying at any point with a symbol requires you to restart the entire process of going into the nightmare and trying to kill the bellkeepers under insane circumstances.
Now lets move on to my main issue with this final boss, this damage phase is not forgiving whatsoever, once you ring the giant bell you are put under a level of pressure that I don’t even feel from raids or most nightfalls, there are 6 bellkeepers you and your team have to beat in a VERY short period of time because as soon as you are in the nightmare Caitil will begin bolting towards one of the three bells, if you do not immediately melt these bellkeepers (i forgot to mention there are multiple psions shooting at you during this) caitil will more than likely make it to the bell and force you to restart the entire process of getting back to damage phase
Overall this final boss feels unnecessarily tedious, while other dungeons do put you under some high fire and pressure i feel like this boss takes that to the next level and should have some sort of tuning, such as instead of caitil reaching a bell being the end of damage phase caitil instead runs for another bell, or overall in the dungeon letting us drop the symbols on death. I found one of my runs for the final boss (the actual singular run i beat caitil) took 35 minutes thats just my thoughts, maybe my opinion will change more as time goes on and im above 1570, but i feel even without power as a factor the actual amount of ads and conditions to beat this boss was just brutal
Edit: thank you everyone for the advice and strats for the boss, I’ll keep playing this dungeon and playing around with different load outs. As for a couple people (blam?) to this post I think you misinterpreted what I was saying or blatantly ignored the post. I have no issue with the difficulty of this boss, after my friends and I figured out what to do we were beating Caitil in 1-2 attempts, my problem is how easy it is to be set back to square one of the boss fight, whether it be how fast caitil makes it to a bell and resets, or you or one of your teammates drops a standard which is pretty easy especially right now with lower light levels.

Guillotine one shots the bellkeepers with a heavy strike, and also avoids the potential explosion from their flamethrower. With good heavy economy, and using the sword on Caitl, it makes sense to use that option for the boss fight.
-
3 RepliesIf you need the bellkeepers dead have Jotuun and sword for boss DPS. Jotuun 1 hits bellkeepers
-
It spawns 2 bellkeepers at each bell when the damage phase starts. Have each fireteam member pick a bell and kill their bellkeepers the second they teleport in to the nightmare room. You now also have 1 person at each bell so no matter where she tries to run they can at least stun her. If solo good luck, haven't messed with that yet.

1 ReplyFight is not hard at all quit whining.
-
That’s part of the challenge. Now you need a way to deal with 6 bell keepers while under fire. So you need a strong damage option, probably with some range and a way to shrug off snipers so a lot of healing or a shield. A hammer build can one shot the bell keepers for no ammo cost and trigger healing sunspots, add in melee wellmaker and you can further buff your damage and have another healing source. I think you’re not looking the challenge in front of you in the way that best addresses it

3 RepliesMy team has lowered our timing for the final boss to a 3 minute farm. It is an easy fight once you have the proper weapons and strategies. Dedicate 1 runner prefer nightstalker to get the flags. The trick to killing the 6 bell keepers in DPS phase is actually to teleport early or pop a super. Also y'all need better weapons to deal with bell keepers. Use a fusion rifle.

9 RepliesI was on Caiatl for 3 hrs, just attempting her and every attempt took 20-40 minutes. If you mess up, especially dying with a symbol, you have to restart the whole process. It's so unforgiving especially if you don't have healing at all. Imo my only issue with the dungeon is the fact that you have to do the entire thing over again and that lost time adds up so quickly. And guess what, if you wipe then suddenly that 40 minute attempt just went to shambles and you gotta start over with her health bar from full. It's not fun at all, just make it so a person drops the symbol on death. And her boss phase she should have a smaller stomp radius and move slower. You have to deal with 6 minibosses, that deal a ridiculous amount of knockback, have a considerable amount of health, and if she touches a bell you have to restart that entire process again, whether or not you even got to damage her. What makes it worse is that she runs towards a bell. You have around 5~ seconds before she touches one of the bells from the moment she spawns into the world. You have to kill 2 minibosses in under 5 seconds, avoid getting knocked off the platform, try to gather your teammates by bell, and have her get close. Oh and there's no cover. You have snipers shooting at you from every direction. Mess up once while juggling all of this and then all the time consuming effort of running and grabbing banners just went down the gutter. It isn't fun, it doesn't feel good to play around this. The only thought I had after all of it was "Thank god it's over."

1: Every time you go to or from the nightmare realm, the ads respawn and need some time to reacquire aim and shoot at you. Therefore there is a grace period you can use to quickly grab or dunk the standards. 2: You can teleport to the nightmare realm early after ringing the massive ball by ringing one of the small bells. This gives you extra time to kill the bellkeepers, but sometimes cause extra to spawn if you mistime it. You can always kill the middle pair first, then the left or right pair depending on which side the boss walks towards. Using a sword, you can easily kill them within the time boss needs to walk to the bell. Hope this helps!

1 ReplyMy issue is the amount of -blam!- snipers that spawn at any given time in the boss room. Even with 100 resilience and sniper damage resist, they still take me out. I was standing on the door for Sun to go over, and right before my team mate shot the bell, literally (I counted them) 6 psions came out, followed by 2 centurions, or whichever cabal they are with the solar shield. They absolutely crushed me before I could even move And the dogs. The one shot shot dogs. Just when you think you have all your ads clear, nope, there’s one dog left that lunges at you from an impossible distance that one shots you. I love that this dungeon is a lot more difficult than previous ones, but these couple things in the boss room really bothered me.

5 RepliesI've been trying to solo flawless all day (beat it solo last night) and tedious is a great way to describe the entire dungeon. The bosses have an absurd amount of health and it takes so long to get to DPS phase for every encounter honestly. It's got a fair amount of BS too when incendiors can blast you into walls and off the map, and it's got one of the more annoying platforming sections. I'd take Prophecy's rainbow road of that any day.

5 RepliesShe can be 1 phased my guy just be by bell when you ring for stun massive damage buff.
-
1 ReplyI agree I think if you miss the bell she runs to she keeps going to the next one instead of ending the phase. You can slow her down by being right out of the stomp radius but not by much and it's very risky.
-
Agreed. The entire raid and how it looks ans the weapons look AMAZING. The Armor is pure trash and the bosses are very tedious and unfun because there's too many beefy ads
-
4 RepliesThe Bellkeepers weren’t a struggle for my team. I was able to wipe mine pretty quickly with a Fusion. Our main problem was with how quickly you need to get to the bells and if you shot it at the wrong time, you didn’t get the damage buff. So if you wanna talk about tedious, I’m right there with you, just for different reasons.
-
1 ReplyYeah it took my fireteam FIVE AND A HALF HOURS on the day one blind run just for Caital, I appreciate that it's supposed to be difficult but right now it's kind of ridiculous
-
1 ReplyMaybe just slow down her running a bit, fix the bells going off with explosions, and maybe cut down her hp slightly for solo runs.
-
1 ReplyIt not hard but definitely tedious. Don’t mind the stun part. My team would each have one stand near a bell and each kill the 2 bellkeepers off spawn. It’d most likely have only 1 of us have good DPS on the first bell, but it made the run a lot more consistent. Got it done in almost 3 phases even with 1 guy sandbagging on DPS. The dungeon is cool aesthetics and the weapons look great, but the armor is underwhelming and the mechanics + add density/health suck the fun out of it pretty quickly.

Edited by StinkyDelicious: 5/29/2022 3:59:30 AMThose bell keepers have a super boop. Kept throwing me off the side in the upside down.
-
2 RepliesYou people will complain about anything lmao
-
The amount of snipers is so frustrating The colossus is unnecessary You should only lose that bell if Caital reaches it before you, not the whole phase. That's my qualms with it.
-
Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
All you have to do to get a damage phase feels like the Oryx fight in kingsfall , except worse For all that you should get more than a 25 second DPS window -
25 RepliesSomething all of the people defending the dungeon's extreme difficulty are not accounting for is this: IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO BE DONE SOLO, AND FLAWLESSLY. If the dungeon is going to be next to impossible to solo and/or flawless, the triumphs for doing so should not exist.
-
1 ReplyAgreed. People who defend the High difficulty need to attempt it solo themselves. Ive solo flawless 2x up untill the Caital Boss. I die there quite often and its not even the ads really. The scenario where i always die is during the damage phase. I get in. Immediately kill the 2 middle bell bearers 1 fusion grenade and a witherhoard before she even moves. Then right when she moves i see her lets say going left. I kill bell bearers near that bell as i glide over there and boom Caital tuns 800mph and is already almost there so i throw myself at her to make her stomp as i finish bell bearers which i usually do but she always makes it before i can reload and shoot the bell to stun her. Her walk speed needs to be decreased if they dont nerf the ads or boss health.

I like this encounter. Yes, add density is high, but when not in the nightmare, it is easy to deal with them as you have no time limit. Kill adds and get your feet under you. In the nightmare, I just have 1 person get both standards. The other two kill the colossuses immediately and boom. You only have to worry about snipers and they aren't the worse threat in there. As for the damage phase - killing bellkeepers is not hard. A witherhoard each, a trace rifle, or any other special melts them and let's you get to damage. And the psions can be killed here. As you move from bell to bell, kill them. It's not hard. As for the length - going in twice to get all the standards before a damage phase - and how tedious you consider it. Man. Did you even play Kings Fall? If this raid comes back next season (likely), the Oryx fight is the most tedious fight ever in destiny. Ciatal is not bad. And is relatively safe so long as you are coordinated.
