what happens if i unlink my steam account that has my characters from my bungie account
i would like to link a new steam account to my bungie account but i don't know if my characters will still be available because i made them on the old steam account.

Your link of an account to Bungie.net does not remove or move your save data that's tied to your platform ID. If you unlink your Steam ID from Bungie.net, those characters will still be that Steam ID's save data, and you can still log in on Steam with that Steam ID and have those characters there. You can link another Steam ID to Bungie.net if you desire. Please note that you must disable Cross-Save in order to unlink an account, and disabling Cross-Save will lock all of the affected accounts out of Cross-Save for 90 days. If your intent is to actually move your save data from one Steam ID to another Steam ID, then, as others have mentioned, that's not an option you have available. The save data is tied to the platform ID it was created for.

Characters are forever tied to the account they were created on. Nothing can be transferred between 2 Steam accounts, 2 PSN accounts or 2 Xbox accounts.
