Why trials is terrible

Trials is bad when the meta is bad. When we have things oversheild spam, LoW, TLW, le monarch, loreli, invis spam, chappy, ect, reigning supreme; it ruins the playlist. Other game modes are annoying but more playable. The reason why trials is so susceptible to bad metas is the game mode. One death in Elimination is HUGE, unlike survival, clash(skirmish), or even showdown, that death has a high likely hood of costing an average team the round. We need to make PvP more gun skill focused FOR REAL if we want a good trials. That means THESE special weapon changes, less things like void 3.0, less things like stasis. That means recognizing that things fusions, bows, overshuelds, invisibility and GLs are bad for PvP. Some guns should not be good in crucible. Trials is is such a bad state because of the recent increases in the amount of cheese present in destiny 2. I guarantee you that everyone from Jims to sweats will have more fun if it’s possible to peek a primary fight without being slammed by cheese.

  • My perspective (being what I think people call a 'blueberry') as to why PvP is not fun in Destiny 2 comes down to just a couple of things: 1. The skill gap between people that play a lot of PvP, whether it is Destiny or a variety of shooter games, and people like me. 2. The basic game mechanics lead to a 'meta' (not sure why that is the term used for this concept) where one or just a few combinations of gear and ability loadouts are far more effective and reliable than anything else. 3. The game descriptions of what things isn't nearly enough information to help you figure out what is going to be effective in PvP and what isn't. Expanding on some of this: 1. I think of this like participating in a sports tournament where professionals and dedicated amateurs are matched up with and against people that have just started playing the sport. If I signed up for a basketball tournament intending to enjoy it, I would not want to be on same court as Michael Jordan. He may be 9 years older than I am, but I've never played organized basketball, and I wouldn't expect to enjoy competing against a team with him on it if he was playing hard. I'm not looking to be on the Washington Generals, paid to be the butt of the joke as everyone watches the Harlem Globetrotters put on a show. I don't know how other shooter games handle PvP matchmaking, but without some way to separate those that are actually good at it and play it a lot from people that are more casual and/or still learning how to move and aim and what abilities to use when, where everything is on the maps, and so on, they really should just put a warning label on the whole thing telling us 'blueberries' not to bother unless we like being humiliated, frustrated, and obliterated without understanding what is happening. I also get frustrated trying something that I thought should make a difference, only to find out that it just doesn't. tier 9 resilience and two sniper damage resistance mods doesn't seem to stop me from being killed in 2 shots from DMT or hand cannons at range or maybe two bursts from a pulse rifle. My frustrations with PvP aren't limited to Trials. It includes basically anything where I am going up against players better than average (and thus far better than I am). I die so fast and without enough understanding of what just happened that I don't know how to 'get good'. I can watch videos where people try and explain the loadouts and tactics, but that just isn't translating into anything actually helpful to me. The only thing that is going to help is playing, and if I'm playing mostly against people that are going to be padding their stats and teabaging me because they think that's funny, then maybe I shouldn't bother. But that is a hard thing to ask of me. It is just hard for me to see something that is there in a video game and just pretend like it isn't there.
