Any charitable organization is only required by law to donate 10% of what they get. What number does Bungie donate? Who knows... but I for one only donate to those that give 100% back - like the Newman’s Own brand, where it says on the bottles “100% of profit goes to charity”. Note the “profit” part. How much profit is left when the CEO doubles his salary every year? Just saying, trying to paint the Guardian Games streamer only shenanigans as a “for charity event” when Bungie doesn’t say what amount they give is bologna.
Edit: This post gained more attention than I expected. Lots of interesting stories here - I want to stress that I don’t know what percent Bungie actually gives to charity. All I’m saying is charitable donations are generally a sketchy thing. For anyone interested just google “what percent of donations go to charity” and look for yourself. Some charities give over 90% of what they get and some give only 10-15% of what they get. Before you decide if you’re going to donate you should really try and find out what amount of what you give actually goes to the charity.
Edit: For those interested here’s some links:
https://charity.lovetoknow.com/What_Percentage_of_Donations_Go_to_Charity
That gives a basic rundown of a few different types. If you want to search for a specific one go here:
https://www.charitynavigator.org
These are just examples but the first link lists a Foundation that keeps 85%... you guys want to fuss over the difference of 15%-10% be my guest. I say 10% because someone I know who started a charity told me that was all they had to give.
Last edit: I was wrong in saying 10%. It’s actually 5%. Here are the links
This one says 5% must be paid out to avoid taxes:

“Taxes on failure to distribute” otherwise known as tax law:

2 RepliesWe all know these corporations keep most of the money Or else they would show how the money helped the cause in great depth. Which would encourage more donations Most of these corporations do charity just to virtue Signal. Perverts and bad people usually run corporations like bungie. “Look at me I’m a good person” -a racist, pervert who doesn’t know how to talk to women

Oh man that's like when I went down the same rabbit hole for Wounded Warrior . Basically you give them a dollar the charity itself gets 10 cents . It's such a scam cause the V.A in America is cheeks

4 RepliesEdited by Fish: 5/6/2022 12:33:13 PMOn one hand some of these charities operate like a business and need to keep some of the funds to operate, but on the other hand tons of charities abuse this to make insane profits while also being able to get tax right offs. It really is a fine line to walk between actually being charitable and just being a scam. Mr. Beast comes to mind when I think of the specific charities he has a hand in while also contributing to the problems these charities aim to fix. You can't earnestly tell me he cares about environment while also being a big player in the crypto/NFT world. Good post. I don't have a problem with Bungie wanting to do charities, in fact I apluad them if they're doing good. Still it should be examined closely to make sure the associated parties are actually contributing in meaningful ways. Ignore what other may be saying. This is healthy skepticism.

Charities are and always will be big business. My brother died of cancer (bone, lung and brain) He was in unspeakable pain. We got a blue cushion to support his back. We returned it after he fell asleep.

14 Replies990 filings are out there, Bungie Foundation doesn't do that bad. My biggest complaint is they take donations from all around the globe and are almost completely donating to the Washington State area.

4 RepliesEdited by $hirtless Captain Kirk: 5/5/2022 4:04:25 AMPreach bro. Additonally, why does a billion dollar company need it's customers to donate when they could donate profits? So they can take more money from you, and put their name on it, look good, and get a tax break off of your back. It's the ultimate in corporate greed, a horrible look, and super scummy. The best part is the bots like "iTz fOr cHaWiTy"

1 ReplyI gotta be honest, this is the only decent talking point when it comes to all the backlash over the Guardian Games Cup, or really any charity coordinating event Destiny tries to get the community involved in. Does Bungie or the charity actually donate enough of the proceeds to the cause they are championing? I get that there is overhead, and for a charity not backed by a for profit company I can understand if they need to use some of the funds collected to continue to operate. I get that some of the people who work for charities do so full time and without any kind of a salary would not be able to live. But nobody should get rich working for a charity. And if a company is being truly charitable they should be covering the cost for anything that they can’t write off on their corporate taxes. So that 100% of the money collected can go to the cause they’re raising money for. If any of the money Bungie is raising through us, either for their own charity or in collaboration with an existing charity is being pocketed for profit then it should stop or Bungie should partner with better charities.

4 RepliesEdited by Olórin: 5/6/2022 12:13:29 AMOnly time I've been charitably is when im parked up in my car and i see a homeless person near a takeaway shop. If i got change on me, I'll go in, order food and give it to them right there and then. I know it sounds bad but I prefer this method and really dislike charities that ask for money to be sent to them. Theres variables that rely on me being ignorant and being naive to entrust my money will go directly to who the charity says the money goes to. At least when it came to me purchasing food directly, its infront of my eyes and i know 100% of my money went towards food and nothing else.
What number does Bungie donate? Who knows...
Bruh… all charity, be it from public or private companies, are publicly available, and this one is not a great example. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/272313989

10 RepliesRandom baseless speculation .... Yep you are sad wanting to spread hate for a company doing charity work.... Keep your terrible baseless opinion to yourself and save yourself to out yourself

If you want to give an actual 100% charity to someone, you’re going to have to walk up to that actual person and give it to them.

7 RepliesEdited by Morakx: 5/5/2022 6:54:17 PMCompanies that try their hardest to look good and for publicity are the worst ones. You learn that as a kid. Bungie is no exception. They constantly advertise how great and supportive their awesome community is and keep advertising more charities than they provide content for their only video game out while being a VIDEO GAME developer. Obviously they are just fishing for donos to make profit themselves. Obviously they make tons of profit off of this scummy practice. People who are actual saints don't feel the need to rub that into everyones face, they just are good people without any need of recognition.

3 RepliesEdited by Cloud_Strife369: 5/5/2022 11:31:19 PMWell if u look it up bungie give anywhere from 77.75% earnings to charities it is split up between a lot of difference charities that they do. Then in 2019 they gave 20% to 25% of charities earned to multiple charities might not be 100% but it better than most

1 ReplyI for one do not trust Bungie to do what they say or the right thing. Support your local charities that have been vetted, not some BS corporation.

8 RepliesVideo game devs commit to charity very well, especially Bungie. Though for some reason people give Bungie -blam!- anytime they do any form of charity.

If you read the small print, it’s not even guaranteed the money you donate is going to the cause they are promoting. They support charities like BLM who steals donations and buys 2 6 million dollar homes with the past few years and god knows what else will come out,and they could be getting the money instead of ipad for kids.

1 ReplyEdited by UncleObscene: 5/5/2022 1:39:12 PMVery true.. Look no further than what kim kartrashian did selling her designer clothes a few years back, out of her closet for charity..she said that only 20% would be given. With her name attached to said designer clothing, they more than likely sold for more than they actually were purchased for new. Another example was the Clinton Foundation raising over 10 million for Haiti relief and supposedly none of that made it there either or atleast to the people.

3 RepliesEdited by Roach: 5/5/2022 9:12:21 AMI worked in Africa for a bit couple of years back. Sat in the bar one afternoon and got chatting to a couple of lads. Turns out they worked for a charity putting fresh water pumps into villages. They had nice gear on, Land Cruiser parked outside and fancy phones, laptops etc. They rock up and install a new pump. Head man of the village locks it and demands payment for water. Upset locals then dismantle the pump and sell the parts, use them for other stuff etc etc. Charity gets a call for a new pump. Rinse and repeat. These guys are happy, as the demand never stops. The head man is happy as the water keeps flowing and he gets some payment from those to weak to stand up to him. The villagers aren't too upset about getting a steady stream of useful parts they can use or sell once they have filled their water containers. And the money keeps flowing because they prey on people's good nature. As many have said if you are going to give to charity do it locally. Any organisation with a CEO is a business. I made a hefty donation to a UK cancer charity when my sister passed from breast cancer almost two years ago. I was then hounded by the people they employed to "fundraise" for almost two months about making a permanent monthly contribution.
