Trials Matchmaking, Rewards, problems, and solutions DEFINED: Trials Fixed

I like to propose Problems with Solutions and Pros/Cons. “Matchmaking is terrible Bungie” does not resolve problems. [b][u]Prevent Resetting our Cards[/u][/b] Hey, I’ve done it, I’ll admit it, I’m a scumlord but if you keep reading and Bungie listens it can be fixed. Give me a chance, I have a 2KD in Trials and I only mention that as a metric so you can see I am a huge Trials enjoyer that believes has some insight into how to make Trials fun and inclusive for everyone. [b]Problem[/b]: Resetting is the bane of Trials. From players doing one win resets or resetting at 3, 5, 6 wins to keep from going Flawless so they can farm lower skilled players all weekend or collect flawlesses to make their Destiny Trials report look cool. This is a terrible and easily exploitable mechanic. On Friday and Saturday players have to reset after 7 wins to continue getting Adept weapons so higher skilled players are constantly fighting lower skilled players. This kills the casual population faster than anything and breeds toxicity at every skill level of player. [b]Solution[/b]: Do not allow players to reset their card, automatically reset cards when two losses have happened on a mercy ticket or one loss on the other cards. Once Flawless has been achieved the card is locked at 7-wins and can only play players and teams on 7 win tickets. [b]Pros[/b]: Solves the KD farming mechanic and the constant Friday/Saturday issue of players going flawless and resetting to get their next Adept until Flawless pool opens up on Sunday. Additionally, makes the Flawless players have to fight other flawless players to continue earning rewards and rolls they seek. We’ll get more into rewards below so you can see the incentive of players to continue queuing. [b]Cons[/b]: If youve gone Flawless and you play with a buddy who hasnt they will be forced to play against 7-win teams. We can fix this from becoming a major problem with other changes below. [b][u]What about people who leave games?[/u][/b] [b]Problem[/b]: Players can leave games to incur a loss and reset their ticket. [b]Solution[/b]: Simple, first time leaving results in a 15 minute Trials timeout. Second time 1 hour. 3rd time 8 hours. Fourth time bans you for the rest of the weekend. If your connection and/or PC causes this to happen pretty regularly then I am going to be honest with you and tell you either fix it or don’t queue Trials and become a liability for your teammates. This timeout would only be for Trials but the additive effect of this starts on Friday and ends Tuesday morning with it being reset the next weekend. [b]Pros[/b]: Shores up an obvious loophole in card resetting and keeps ragequitters from ruining games. KD farmers wont purposefully throw games because they still incur at minimum a 5 death penalty every 6 games, this would be counterproductive to their goal. [b]Cons[/b]: Players feel trapped in an unwinnable game. It happens, its less than 5 minutes of your life, we all get rolled sometimes, play your best and it’ll be over soon. If you need to leave because of an emergency well those only happen once or twice a weekend and I highly doubt you’d even feel the timeout penalty as you’d be too busy handling the emergency than worrying about a 15 minute and 1 hour timeout. [u][b]Rewards[/b][/u] [b]Problem[/b]: Once in the 7-win queue there is zero purpose to keep qing on Friday and Saturday as there is no Flawless pool/rewards and every match is super sweaty. Additionally, lower skilled players can’t farm rewards in the proposed system if they make it to flawless. [b]Solution[/b]: Once a player has gone flawless and can only fight fellow flawless players that weekend, then allow rewards to be earned after completion of every 3rd match. Win or lose. Rewards should be given on time spent playing the game to encourage players to keep playing and hunting for the god roll. [b]Pros[/b]: Now we have a very large incentive to go flawless and keep grinding matches at EVERY skill level in the flawless pool win or lose. This will allow the population to grow significantly in the flawless pool and keep playing. Non-flawless players will spam queue because they wont have to worry about constantly getting rolled by 2+ KD players, then when they get flawless they have a farming method to grind that godroll they want win or lose. Most players who try will actually achieve Flawless in a given weekend. [b]Cons[/b]: Elitist PvPers may be angry that a 0.2 KD may farm a god roll Messenger. All I can say to you is stop whining. [b][u]Two Reward Paths[/u][/b] [b]Problem[/b]: I already have a god roll Adept weapon thats being offered this weekend. [b]Solution[/b]: Once Flawless you can assign two reward paths, one being that you only get the weapon assigned that weekend or you get a random adept weapon with random rolls that youve previously earned and is not vaulted. You can also switch your reward path at any time between the two. [b]Pros[/b]: If you already have the god roll of the Adept Messenger now you can try your luck at that Adept Summoner/Eye/Shayuras/etc that eluded you during a previous weekend. [b]Cons[/b]: Some random nolifer with 5000+ games in a weekend has all the Trials weapons pve/pvp god rolls and now has nothing to grind for. 🤷‍♂️ tough stuff bud, youre in an elite crew of less than 100 players out of a million or so. It sounds like you really enjoy Trials though so keep doing that, hopefully next season theyll add a new reward for you to grind. [b][u]The map sucks[/u][/b] [b]Problem[/b]: Some of the Crucible maps are not fun to play Trials on. [b]Solution[/b]: Institute a COD like system where the teams can vote on 3 maps (The three maps are predetermined by Bungie), the map with all votes is automatically selected or if in the case of a tie the map is randomly chosen between the maps with an equal number of votes. A personal request is that Javelin-4 is always one of the three maps to choose from because I love that map and most people I know do as well. [b]Pros[/b]: Keeps Trials interesting, instead of fighting on the same map for 100+ games a weekend now we can practice different maps or go with the classic and nearly universally loved Javelin-4. [b]Cons[/b]: In the event of a tie you may lose the roll and have to play on a map you dont want to play on for one game. [b][u]Trials Labs[/u][/b] [b]Problem[/b]: Some players dislike Trials Labs. [b]Solution:[/b]: Allow players to vote on it being Trials Labs or standard Elimination. [b]Pros/cons[/b]: Same as map selection. [b][u]MAKE THE LIGHTHOUSE AN AWESOME SOCIAL SPACE WITH A TWIST[/u][/b] Grant the lighthouse ALL the vendors from the Tower, Enclave, and Helm to include the postmaster, vault, crafting station, Saint-14, Ada-1, etc. so it becomes an awesome convenient social space to pickup bounties, turn in engrams, complete quests, etc. and a nice reward for going flawless on friday to maximize the benefit all weekend until Tuesday. It would be filled with players who have also additionally gone flawless and be a nice weekend convenience reward for having gone Flawless. The current iteration of the lighthouse loses its wow factor after the 3rd time and just becomes an annoying run to get to the chest to be granted a random adept legendary you could have just given me without forcing a journey to collect it. [b][u]Results of the above:[/u][/b] Players would have more fun. PvP should be about inclusion and everyone should be rewarded for time spent in an activity. This would significantly increase participation weekend after weekend and have two large and HEALTHY populations of people queuing Trials (Flawless and Non-Flawless). The largest side effect of fun is replayability in your game Bungie. With the above changes most players can look at reaching the lighthouse as an achievable goal, achievable goals and rewards keeps people playing and having fun. Furthermore, they will be given choices to how they want to do Trials such as map and gamemode.   • Well thought out solutions for the most part. Some minor issues would still come into play such as sabotaging a match for a reset, but far less than what there currently is. I'll be willing to give these changes a try.
