After looking at the leaked guardian games hunter set I feel like this needs to be addressed, especially for the female body of the hunter. Why does one hunter arm have to be completely stacked and the other completely lacking? Asymmetrical arms do not look good for a multiple of reasons
It makes one arm look way too beefy. On the male body type it’s better, but it’s way too drastic on the female. Examples: Iron forerunner gauntlets, gloves of the exile, Empyrean Cartographer grips
It’s not that I don’t like Asymmetry, I really do enjoy the tangled web arms, the season 3 iron banner arms, the season of the hunt ornament arms, and the grasp of avarice arms. Although asymmetrical, they have good foundations on both arms. It’s really only the arms that have one good side, and a barren other side.
It ruins the dynamic of a hunter. It’s a lot better on the male hunter because their arms are bigger, and it’s not as much as a difference between arm size, but on the female, it’s really bad. While looking at the guardian games armor, why can’t both sides have those same foundations around the shoulder? It’s completely unnecessary to have armors be dramatically asymmetric.
And yes I understand this is completely based on my opinion, and it is personal preference, but I’m just saying that hunter armor sets would be a lot better if they were a bit more symmetrical.

The hunter GG set looks super cool…except the gauntlets. Man, the one barren/semi naked arm, ugh. If they just put the shoulder plate on both it would be near perfect.
-
Would be cool if a functionality was added to like switch armors between asymmetrical and symmetrical and switch or remove shoulder armor on both arms and or legs something like that like a new armor customization system

1 ReplyThis is a problem in general. The amount of times I've wanted to use Titan arms just to see the pauldrons are mismatched and disappointingly decided not to is astounding.

Edited by Ghostfire239: 5/3/2022 11:38:49 PMI think we’re all burnt out when it comes to asymmetrical gear on Hunters (and Titans). People keeping saying “just use transmog”. What are we supposed to transmog? Almost every single pair of gauntlets/boots we have are asymmetrical. Even when we do find some symmetrical gear we then have to worry about how it will take shaders (because shaders systems are terrible and limiting). As a side note. The Grasp of Avarice Hunter gauntlets caused me so much pain. One gauntlet is completely armoured and looks incredible. The other has what looks like a gardening glove and almost no armour except for the tiny piece at the shoulder. They don’t need to look the same but they should at least be more consistent in their appearance.

Edited by wolbeas: 5/4/2022 7:38:18 AMI support this for every class, not just Hunters. And... Always the same, and now all this. No more stones. No more spears. No more slings. No more swords. No more weapons! No more systems! No more! No more superpowers... So much faith in their tools, in their machines. You can fire your arrows from the Tower of Babel, but you can never strike god!

10 RepliesEdited by Demon_XXVII: 5/3/2022 4:14:22 AMThe Hunter has some great grips/grasps/gloves(arms) for transmog (if symmetry is your thing) Iron Truage (Old Iron Banner) Pyrrhic Ascent (Old Trials) Moonfang X7 (Prophecy Dungeon Legacy’s Oath (DSC Raid) Resonant Fury (Vow of the Disciple Raid) Lightkin (Seasonal/Universal ornament) Praefectus (Seasonal ornament - carries block colour very well) Omega Mechanos (way old) Winterhart Grips (1st Dawning, Osiris season ?) Optimacy (way back when) there’s 2 versions Solstice Grasps (renewed 2021 blue set) Solstice Majestic (2019 Opulence season) Solstice Magnificent (2020 Arrivals season) there’s many others Fabrics shade differently to metallic & carbon/plastic style armour

4 RepliesNot to say that you are wrong, but from a design perspective, symmetry is boring. Asymmetry on the other hand adds so much visual interest to an otherwise boring piece. It hints at the function of your armour, that your off-hand has different armour because of different uses such as tossing a nade so it might have less armour at the bends or maybe some ergonomic bracing. Asymmetry also leads the eye back and forth across your character, creating a path/flow to the design that takes you through the points of interest, catching the eye for longer. Whereas symmetry makes it so that your eyes ignore one half because they know its the same as they've already seen. Bungie does a tremendous job of offsetting the weight of a character, so even if the design is asymmetrical, the character is still balanced whether through the stance of the character, or whether the arms are offset by the legs as the large shapes are usually on the right leg and left arm meanwhile the medium and smaller shapes are used to make up the other sides. Bungie's use of shape design has always been great, and the asymmetrical really shows this knowledge.

As mostly hunter main, fashion is EVERYTHING. I will not just embarrass myself in multiplayer activities wearing blueberry or mismatched armor on my hunter. End of story.

Seems you found your calling, apply for the job and make it so!

Edited by Corrick II: 5/3/2022 5:38:31 PMPeople saying “just use transmog”, the whole point of new armor is so we have something new to try out. Having to repeatedly go back to old styles because each new addition isn’t something we want to equip (because of an increasingly frustrating and overused style choice) is disappointing. Some players care what they look like, enough to add helpful critique to the conversation around cosmetics. If you don’t care about this topic, why comment on it?

Asymmetry is the bane of armor for me. Even if it's just a difference in shaders.

4 RepliesNow you know how titans feel with their big shoulder pads on nearly all armour sets

2 RepliesThis Dude be like: "Hunters have asymmetrical arms."
My Brother in Christ, choose different Gauntlets.

In all seriousness, I get it, but there are obviously other options.
Warlocks can't get battle armore to save our lives. At least make the robes extra drippy I'm tryna feel like snoop dog. Also astrocyte verse either needs an ornament or needs to be able to be shaded. It's the only glowing light bulb helmet in the game if you can't discern what it is then that's on you

4 RepliesDress-up Barbie is not an issue with the ability to transmog.

Hunter set has a little bit of asymmetry. It could be worse. But I do agree with you. Same can be said about titans though.

Get over it man. Its an art style. Go transmog symmetrical armor of you dont like the new one coming. Art is subjective

I couldn't agree with this post more, I don't like Bungie's armor artists solely for this reason.
-
last seasons GG hunter armor has symmetrical arms
-
Always been like this look at the d1 raid armour only the wrath of the machine one was symmetrical
-
Honestly it’s been annoying for me recently, although I am myself a Titan main, I always see a arms piece that one side is bulkier than the other that’s just some sock on my titans arm
-
Thats because this organization is ran by asymmetrical people. People that say one thing and do another.
-
I run three or four different ornaments/transmog sets. Don't need more, won't use more. Hence personally I couldn't care less. Sorry. Bungie better focus on additional campaigns and playlist content, dungeons etc.. Even more as gameplay is FPS! and I only see my characters in the tower or menu so who cares???
-
Its First Person Who cares what it looks like. Transmog or wear something else. Bungie aren't gonna change cos you don't like the aesthetic. Neither they should. They should work on Gambit & PvP & strike Playlist.. not what arms look like.

Agree... asymmetrical armor looks terrible for the most part. It always seems to end up with one side looking like they simply forgot about it. It doesn't need to be a copy/paste mirror image, but at least make it look balanced.
