Xenology quest bugged yet again, no exotic cipher, EXTREMELY disheartening

I'm just sick and tired of this, it keeps happening. This week Xur finally has a rangefinder Hawkmoon, and I login with my Warlock after finishing the xenology quest, I go to Xur and talk to him, a message pops up "Xenology completed", but no exotic cipher given at all, not in vault, not in inventory, not on any of my other characters (and I logged into each of them to check). So I guess I can't get the Hawkmoon. What is the point of playing this game if rewards can be so RNG, sometimes you get them, sometimes they just glitch and disappear from existence. Just absolutely kills my desire to play. Bungie FIX YOUR CODE. This is just basic inventory management, how can such a simple function be bugged? EDIT: my inventory was full at the time, I just realized that this is a "known bug" that we should account for, like be careful not to have a full inventory when talking to Xur? There is a reddit post about it from 1 YEAR AGO, why wasn't this fixed yet?

DEFINITELY a bug. I had purchased the quest ("Xenology") two weeks ago, completed it, and returned to Xur just 15 minutes or so ago when the quest status said to do so, turned it in and received no Exotic Cipher. I did NOT and do not have an Exotic Cipher in my intentory. I checked all three characters, restarted the game, etc. Nothing. Both the quest and the Cipher are gone and I have nothing to show for it. The proof that I turned it in is that Xur won't let me buy another quest from him (yes, I purchased his Exotic Engram first). Yet nothing. The only thing I can think of that might affect things is that this was the first Exotic Cipher quest I had ever purchased/completed. Edit: never mind, it turns out I had one in my vault. Ugh, what a stupid limitation...

  • It’s the players responsibility to know what their inventory holds.

    • Hey, This is not a bug. You can only have one exotic cipher on your account at any time, because of this they will not go to the postmaster. If you do not have space in your inventory when you claim it, it will be lost.
