A Lightfall Theory: We will take the Traveler’s Light

“Your pale heart holds the key. This time, there is no escape” -The Witness HIVE SCORN LOVE DARKNESS WORSHIP WITNESS. PYRAMID FLEET ENTER EARTH STOP GUARDIAN. WITNESS COMMUNE TRAVELER DRINK LIGHT. WITNESS KILL (REDACTED). -Vow of the Disciple Prophecy Wall I thought about this and the nature of how The Light exists in the universe. When the Traveler was being transported to the Throne World by Savathûn, it was said that everything outside of her Throne World will be cut off from the light, including our Guardians like during the Red War. This made me wonder, “How will we still be able to fight The Witness if we do not have the light to sustain us in The Final Shape expansion? If The Witness “drinks” the light from the Traveler, how will we fight them?” I think that during the Lightfall campaign, we will find out what the Witness plans to do with the Traveler and their plan to “drink” The Light. Perhaps the final mission of the campaign will have us enter the Traveler to stop the Witness from carrying out its plan in taking The Light. And maybe in the process, the “pale heart” that the Witness spoke about gets absorbed by us, preventing the Light from truly “falling”, but the Traveler dies in the process. This will make our character(s) the last source of “The Light” in the universe, making us a prime target for the Witness in the seasons ahead before the Final Shape. Maybe Lightfall isn’t the literal fall of The Light, but the fall of The Traveler; a symbol of light in the story. Maybe it will die.

  • So I have a fun religious theory (since the light is basically religion). We have had a few lore pieces directly referring to the Christian God with Clovis Bray stuff, as well as having a reflection of God and Jesus with Rasputin and Felwinter. What if in the same way, the Traveler (in the role of Jesus) gives up their life (existance?) to give the light to all ghosts, acting as the Holy Spirit. Get it? Ghosts? Spirit? The Spirit in Christianity is God's presence given to those who accept Jesus's free gift, in this case the gift would be the light. Idk, just an idea.

  • All we have to do is Connect our Ghost to the same power the Traveler and the Witness tap into. We already do this with the Dark, but if our Ghost becomes the New "Mini" Traveler....we then have un- restricted access to both Logics.

  • I think that we'll end up using the light like we use the Darkness. Harnessing power within rather than it coming from outside sources like our light does. We don't derive Stasis from a pyramid ship, but from the darkness within us. It would be just a small step for people to also have a measure of Light in them as well. I have doubts about the Traveler dying. Often in lore the Traveler itself has been referred to as the Gardener herself (himself? itself?), so if the Traveler actually dies does that mean that the paracausal rule known as the "Light" fades as well? This seems shaky. However, a good counter to that suggestion is making a case for the Traveler's absence: When the Collapse occurred, the Traveler went into a deep slumber. At least, that's what they say: it hardly does anything now. You could make the case that the "Traveler" (as in the sentient being with its own goals, needs, and wants) is absent (fled, or otherwise), and when we know as the Traveler, the moon-sized snowball that hangs over the Last Safe City, is no more than a faded husk or body, exuding Light. But as long as the Gardener fled, the paracausal rule of Light still exists. If not, however, we'd probably be faced with the prospect of "Light" being eradicated from the universe altogether.

  • I read a theory somewhere where the Final Shape expansion is an all out war between all factions of the sol system for the ultimate power

    • I think we'll eventually be put to a choice of light or dark. We weren't meant to wield both.

      • The Traveler isn’t going to fall, for good at least, for a couple of reasons. Namely, it’s the Gardner. The Winnower and other lore say it. The Shell we see is just a vessel. We’ve seen where the Final Showdown is to happen. On Io, after the Traveler heals. The Travelers Vision cutscene showed this a long time ago. If there is passing of the torch, it’s a death sentence to whoever gets it. The Dark and Light saga will end with the two powers being extinguished. I’m betting that only happens in one way. That prophecy is wishful thinking. Wouldn’t be the first time we stopped a prophecy.

        • I suspect the Witness plans on using the light and dark to make a pocket universe where he is a fundamental truth, just like how the light and dark are for our universe. Then using his taken powers, he will take all that he wants from this universe and move it to his own.
