This forging weapon system is too grindy

First you got to be lucky certain red lined weapons drop. Then you need 5 of them for some. Then you need enough materials to be able to create these weapons. You do this by finishing the progress on more red lined weapons. Then you can create a weapon but then you have to upgrade these to level 16 to get all the perks unlocked. And then you have to do this another 30+ more times to get all these weapons completed. It is way too much of a grind! Glaives level quick but weapons like snipers? Takes way too long. The whole system should be way less of a grind. Also the rng drop rate of the other 2 exotic glaive patterns seem to be ridiculously low. By forcing players into a certain activity that they have to do over and over again because of the rng system is not helping the game. It would be better to take away rng on certain weapons and add a quest to it.

  • Enhanced perks are rarely worth it, and that’s where most of the grind is. Play with a few random rolls that drop, find your favorites and spend the 2000-ish neutral element to get the roll you want. 1 perfectly rolled gun is about 10-ish deepsight weapons. Very few enhanced perks are actually worth it (lasting impression, archer’s tempo, surrounded, etc.)

It's not that grindy unless you go for the golden perks...which are barely noticeable except for two maybe (for the Raid fusion). Take your time, wait for the next season, what it has to offer, and then decide.

    • It’s also pointless since the same rolls you can get by just playing.

    • Just wait for a patch where they realized nobody is grinding,I haven't even bothered to craft more than a couple of weapons and I am not even leveling them up. Give it some time for the changes to come.

      • Honestly the worst part about it is the tedium of actually grinding out a weapon. RNG and all that sucks, but that's in the very nature of a Shlooter, you can't avoid that and for all its faults D2 has actually done pretty well on minimizing RNG where they can. The thing that kills me is the tedium. Its completing activities with bad weapons so I can get currency to turn them into the weapon that I want that will also be bad for a while before I have it leveled up enough to make it good at which point I now need to do even more activities with bad weapons to make the weapon I want good. Its all tedium that could easily be toned down without losing the experience. Deepsight weapons should be completed or damn near close to completion after finishing any core playlist activity. When you level up a crafted weapom it should be dropping 50 to 100 neutral element, not 15, allowing the player to feel like the work they put into the weapon is paying off by then being able to make the weapon better, instead of then needing to take off the weapon you want to work on and putting on other bad weapons so you can make the weapon you want good.

      • Sorry, Bungie employees can't admit to screwing up. They probably get fired if they spend countless hours on something and the players hate it. Better to imply that the players don't understand how wonderful it is and that upgrading a weapon is a significant event in every Guardian's life. Of course it should require a soul-sucking grind.

        • Enhanced perks are completely and utterly useless. Watched a video, the guy added enhanced ambitious assassin and enhanced chain reaction. Literally gained +4 to reload and that's it!! So basically no gain because you'll never notice that +4 to reload. Why bother?

          • Considering that you get a god roll for that specific weapon, the only difficult part is unlocking the pattern. Once you do that, you literally just have to play the game.

            • The other issue.. many of these weapons suck. Why do I want to use ineffectual weapons for anything. Just another ploy to take our power away and make us less effective.

              • Over the last few weeks, Guardians have been crafting some spicy weapon rolls at the Enclave  on Mars. Patterns have been discovered, traits have been enhanced, and Exotic Glaives have been shaped! As with all things Destiny, the team has been keeping an eye on player conversation around crafting, planning next steps, and looking towards the future. We’ve got a hotfix coming next Tuesday with a few minor changes, and some commentary on feedback items that the team will be looking to address in future patches and tuning passes.  Development Team: Since the launch of The Witch Queen, we’ve been watching some feedback on crafting currencies required for specific traits. One piece of feedback in particular deals with crafting element caps, as some players have been maxing out their elements frequently. Starting next Tuesday with Hotfix 4.0.0.4, we’ll be increasing element caps from 250 to 1000, and for Neutral Element, the cap will move from 8500 to 10000.  Next Season, we are removing Ruinous, Adroit, Mutable, Drowned, and Energetic elements. Only Neutral Elements will remain.  Our initial goals for these currencies were to sustain the interest in non-crafted weapon drops, and to retain the chase of weapons with well-rolled perks in a post-crafting Destiny 2. The desire was that the player would continually chase for combinations such as Subsistence plus Rampage to fuel their crafting progression through Deepsight weapon completion.  While not the only reasons we’re removing the specific currencies, there were two design changes pre-launch which made elements ineffectual:  We initially had a currency per trait perk (e.g., to craft with Rampage, you needed a weapon with Rampage), however due to technical and usability issues (too many currencies to track, for example), we opted to heavily simplify the element currencies to the handful we shipped at launch. This unfortunately resulted in a decreased interest in chasing a specific trait perk element.  Ascendant Alloys, the Exotic-quality crafting material that can be found through high-end content or purchased from Rahool for a high price, made the remaining condensed elements obsolete. The Ascendant Alloy currency was added after we had already condensed the elements, and we were unable to resolve the experiential issues between these two currencies prior to launch.  Specific elements such as Ruinous and Adroit became redundant and, in some cases, in conflict with Ascendant Alloys and Neutral Elements, so we’re removing them altogether.  Since launch, we’ve also been watching the player conversation and keeping tabs on backend data. While we don’t have specifics to share on future changes, we did want to note a few areas that we’re looking at:  Looking to add more player control over Deepsight weapon unlocking of weapon Patterns.  Continuing to monitor Deepsight weapon stockpiling, acquisition rates and progression, as well as Resonant Alloy acquisition rates and behavior.   We're also discussing feedback around reshaping costs for those who wish to experiment more frequently with their trait selections  Many thanks to all who’ve been sounding off with feedback. Even after these changes go live, we’ll continue to monitor the conversation. Pairing feedback with data will help inform our next steps as we continue to iterate on crafting

It’s trash. Definitely the worst crafting system ever designed. We’re 2022. They charge €100 for this monkey hamster astronomically boring and underwhelming wheel. I just delete these red square drop, even if they’re patterns. Get lost. There’s nothing in the game that requires them, have them enhanced makes no difference to any content. PvE or even PvP where every fight is just a one shot special. This crafting design is just a lame excuse to grind the lack of content wheel. Patterns drop rate, required numbers, extracting process, crafting process, upgrading process… everything is so trash I can’t believe someone designed it, someone else tested it, and another one approved it. Terrible chain of command.

                    • It's silly you have to use a bunch of weapons you may not like just to earn the currency to craft. And the fact that the perks themselves aren't unlockable after one purchase is ridiculous. Suffice to say, I won't be participating in crafting until Bungoe does a full rework... which we all know will happen... someday.

Simple solution to fix the crafting system. Remove deepsight weapons and replace them with bounties at the enclave that reward neutral element dismantling items would also reward a small amount of neutral element. Next replace the need of farming deepsight weapons to unlock weapons for crafting and instead use existing challenges or add new challenges you must complete to unlock them. For example... Tarnation: Complete Wellspring Defend flawlessly (This would be player specific to account for MM) Submission: Complete the Swift Destruction Raid challenge Lubrae's Ruin: Complete the Disciples Offering in Vow of the Disciple raid. Piece of Mind: Complete the Legendary EDZ Battleground Flawlessly (Player specific also just like the triumph is) Explosive Personality: Defeat Lighthoarder squads in Psi-ops Battlegrounds. Defeating Lighthoarder squads on Legendary difficulty grants more progress. This fixes the issue of needing to hold onto or use garbage randomly dropped weapons just for a currency, and having to complete challenges to unlock weapons for crafting will make the actual journey to unlock and craft them much more fun and interesting.

                      • I’m not sure what you expected but I’ve been playing destiny a long time. Here’s some advice: Slow down If it was easy everyone would have everything done and be upset there isn’t anything left to do. I like that it’s Grindy, it means I’ll still be toying with this system well into the season. Take a chill pill and just let it be

                      • The things I find really bothersome are: - too many deepsight extractions required to get a pattern (like 5 for some of the weapons is absurd) - crafting pool of weapons is really limited - enhanced perks for the most part are extremely underwhelming
