The campaign should be account based NOT character based.

It takes a long time to do the campaign and its fun but the player should not be forced to do the campaign on other characters. the ritual campaign mission is long. how hard would it be to make the campaign optional on other characters when you did it on one? I might be mistaken but I think there was a DLC that was account based and not character based. I don't want to do the campaign again we grind enough as it is. i want to enjoy my other characters without having to spend another 5 hours doing the campaign again. how do you guys feel about this? i can't see any good argument for having to do the campaign again on other characters. edit: Some on here say if you don't do the campaign on a character your not missing out on much. here are some of the activities and rewards I can confirm so far that you can not get. you are locked out of wellspring power and pinnacle and weapons. you are locked out of psiops powerful and pinnacle. i checked on my hunter who has done only 4 missions and dares of eternity powerful and pinnacle are locked out. the evidence board is locked out until you complete the campaign. you are locked out of the preservation mission and altar of reflection.

  • I love the campaign, its also a great way to get a free WQ exotic armor at the end on legendary, also the emblem from legendary is cool. I don't know about you, but not having to run a lost sector for basically a free dlc exotic is better than Beyond Light.

mate, time gating is very important in this game. You should know that nowdays. Sux and if you have limited time to play (lets say that you have a job) than time gating is even worse. Imho they should give some proper rewards for completing whole story (lets say, exotic glaive), but they should NOT keep ppl from actualy playing and progressing in the game on other spots except for WQ world. Like yea, story is only about WQ, its not about other places. So wellspring, weekly missions on WQ world, same as preservation and raid should b locked, but nothing else.

        • Remember how last time everyone relentlessly cried over having to unlock stasis on every character? Bungie made progress and given their ability to go years with minimal progress you should take what you can get. Let’s be honest this is the first semi coherent campaign in like three years. I even thought it was refreshingly good until I saw bungie use a dato quote for marketing. My point is the community will never be happy. The community is too diverse, big or muddied to ever be pleased. Destiny has basically become the chasing dragon game from south park. It’s the same reason no matter what people will constantly complain about pvp. Given this I almost don’t blame bungie for having given up. If the past 4 years have shown anything it’s that the player base will never be happy and bungie can do basically nothing and garner the same reaction. So be happy you aren’t getting basically nothing like the past few years have been.

          • It wouldn't be so bad if they would vary the story somewhat for each of the main classes, Warlock, Hunter and Titan.

I personally disagree. And I’ll explain why. Edit: As a side note, I’m not saying that I wouldn’t enjoy account based progression. That would remove a lot of grinding and I wouldn’t be complaining at all. Haha. This is just my answer to the topic and why I think it doesn’t make sense logically to transition to that. Each character you make is it’s own individual with it’s own backstory. Like Human, Exo, Awoken, they all had some background before they were resurrected. Right? So one character completing the campaign and every other character not having to do it in order to get to endgame content would disrupt that.
you are locked out of wellspring power and pinnacle and weapons. you are locked out of psiops powerful and pinnacle. i checked on my hunter who has done only 4 missions and dares of eternity powerful and pinnacle are locked out.
This is a great example. You haven’t unlock those activities for your Hunter yet. Why is that? The gameplay reason is that you simply don’t have enough done to get to those places yet. The reason story-wise: Your Hunter is a different individual. Account based campaign completion would mess up what Bungie set in place. Your Warlock or Titan are not the same individual as your Hunter. So you have to do things from scratch in order to get to those places because your Hunter has just started their Journey.
This is more of a story based answer rather than a gameplay answer. But you can see why Bungie has it like that in this case.
So all that being said, this is why I think that there isn’t a need to change character based progress for campaigns to account based. It would disrupt how the game flows in that area.

Agreed. 100% This campaign was awesome. Best since TTK. Having to do it again so soon robs it of its appeal. It feels like work. At the very least, all characters should have immediate access to activities like The Wellspring once one unlocks it naturally.

                    • I completely agree. As a new player, I really enjoyed the game and the campaign in legendary. I didn't see the time pass because everything was well put together. However, after finishing the second character, I felt more like I had suffered through the campaign and not enjoyed it. I think like you that once the campaign is done on a character, it becomes useless to do it again on the others because it becomes more a waste of time than anything else. We should have the choice to redo it or not instead of forcing it on us three times. It doesn't bring us anything more and it's a pity because I really loved the immersion with my first character whereas with the second, I was rather disgusted. I hope they will change this for the next campaigns.

                    • IMO: If you complete any quest or Campaign with one Character that you should have the option to auto complete them on your alts, but also have the option to complete them for the loot & Xp.

                    • I'm with you on this one! Trying to maintain a full-time job, a home, relationships, and still grind out Destiny is tough. Once I've completed the campaign on one character, I would at least like the option to play the campaign on my other characters or skip it and have the other characters fast forward to the end. The grind just to get certain weapons, do activities, quests, etc. on one character is enough! I played D1 with 3 characters and then switched to just 1 when D2 was released. Only added 2 more characters again to help with resources, and I do enjoy switching things up every now and then and using the different play style of the other characters. With so many players running 3 characters because of this same thing, you would think Bungie would have added the option by now.

Literally the only reason I did the Beyond Light campaign on my alts is because I was in quarantine. If it wasn't for that I would have never done it. Although I will say it did go faster those two times than it did the first time.

                    • 100% Agree this is why i haven't touched my Warlock or Titan i am a hunter main i just had my second child last month i have a family to support and cat who likes frisbies and 2 kids to provide for when i finally have time to sit down and play its only for like 1hr and that's it and that is trying to catch up on power levels with my Hunter if i switch to my other Characters having to unlock everything from the beginning just makes me feel like my time invested wasn't anything with my main character.

                    • So I think the reason why to run it is for the blues to level up your characters. Otherwise you’ll be limited to what you can access. You should be well over 1500 when finishing the campaign with the other guys. But if you didn’t run the campaign I don’t think you’d make it to 1400. Way below the power level for a lot of things. Quicker to run the campaign vs. trying to get all the blues you need to upgrade to power level from the few activities that are accessible.

                      • That’s part of the reason I dropped my other two characters all the way back during Forsaken: it always felt like a chore to go back and catch up with my other characters, and I dislike leaving things incomplete. I just don’t have the playtime available to justify keeping 3 characters going like I did back in D1, so I kept the main and ditched the others. Best decision I’ve made for my Destiny 2 career. I always have time to do everything I want to each week on my main and I never feel like I’m missing anything or need to catch up on stuff. Deleting characters is a daunting possibility for many to consider, but I haven’t regretted it at all. Just something to consider.

I agree however, I used the campaign as means to level up my crafted weapons. Really fast way to level them up. Sucks that it is forced though.
