Look, I ain't one to join in on any kind of drama, but I personally feel that this is an extreme step Bungie has taken by striking down every single Destiny OST upload that has not come from themselves.
Just to clarify, I'm not here to accuse Bungie of having "awful practices" nor am I here to lambaste them for what they have done. I understand that Bungie is the sole rights holder for every single piece of content and media that has come out of any works they have ever produced, and I realize that it is fully within their right to do what they have done. The only question I have for you Bungie, is why? What is the reason for striking down all these OST archives after all these years? I'd understand it if people were simply just re-uploading them without giving any credit to Bungie nor the composers whatsoever, or if they were all monetizing the content; but if they weren't doing any such thing, if they made it clear that they do not own any of the works, that all of it solely belongs to Bungie, and they weren't monetizing it at all, then what seems to be the problem?
There are many of us who enjoyed the wide variety of Destiny music that existed outside of the official yearly soundtrack, and by cracking down on anything that was not officially released by Bungie themselves, you have effectively killed a major part of your community. Given this, I'd like to know the reason as to why you are cracking down on it so harshly, when you seemed to have been completely fine with it for the past 8 years?

Alright, so it looks like Bungie has tweeted out that the copyright takedowns were not given out by the request of Bungie nor their partners: https://twitter.com/Bungie/status/1505630845993844736
Looks to be that some third party is actively taking down Destiny-related content all-round, with said third party even attempting to take down videos on Bungie's own official channel...
...Ain't the YouTube copyright "system" absolutely glorious? Seems to be that you can nuke an entire community without much effort at all!

Bungle lets their lawyers make decisions that actually hurt the company. George Lucas did that kind of thing and the backlash was so fierce that he backed off. He'd forgotten who paid his bills. Bungie has too. Without the fans they are nothing. You too Sony.

1 ReplyBecause they want people to pay for the soundtrack instead of free YouTube

3 RepliesAnyone saying this is related to Sony clearly ignores companies like Nintendo and Square Enix that do the same thing Welcome to the world to Copyright Infringement Laws You had plenty of time to use YouTube To MP3 sites or even The Bay to obtain music without paying for it And in regards of Poor Audio quality, What's stopping you from learning Audacity?

4 RepliesChances are it’s a Sony thing. They are extremely quick at taking down things like Final Fantasy 7 Remake music if they have either official title. However they do not take it down if the titles says it isn’t the song. For example “This is NOT JENOVA Quickening”. Very strange

Edited by Hawpy: 3/18/2022 8:10:29 PMRIP to all the songs that sound better in-game than on the soundtrack or simply aren't in the game anymore. At least the Pyramid version of Lost Oasis from Arrivals is still knocking around.

I don't know why now suddenly, it's possible it has something to do with legal proceedings. There's something in copywrite law that basically says if anyone violates your ip, you have to defend it, because if you allow one person to do it, you have to let everyone. This came up back when my little pony was a huge thing. An art student was producing his own episode with voice actors and music. Hasbro's legal department slapped them with a C&D as just part of the process (that's not a financial suit but it does mean you have to stop what you're doing). Turns out they were peeing on the third rail and Hasbro said "the Golden egg goose is angered! What have we done!" So basically legal and Corp got with them and said "we are going to allow you to move forward with a special use license but you have to adhere tightly to these narrowly defined criteria." Not that they said that out loud but it's probably what happened. Because they literally could not just say "oh we'll just make an exception this one time". Anyway, episode got made, it was incredibly well done, and everyone who was a fan loved it. I believe he is now a professor at the school he graduated from.

8 RepliesBecause it’s bungie’s IP to say they own the rights To the soundtrack and can issue DMCA takedowns of any illegal distribution shared online and do not Complying with the fair use act if it not edited for transformative works that’s if it not under 7 seconds Other than that it’s in their rights to protect any Products license by them
