For one, it was very frustrating as some clan members have been experiencing serious internet problems, so I'd say more than half my total time spent in the raid thus far was just waiting for the DC'd person to rejoin, after we wipe of course in the middle of doing an encounter. That's not a dig at Bungie, just explains why it took us so long.
Anyway...
I very much enjoy the environment, for one. The Egyptian architecture and theming that comes with being in a Pyramid Ship is super cool. The dead worm is so cool to see too.
Lore and storywise, this has been my favorite raid on that front. Finally actually going up against some form of the Darkness in the flesh is what we've been waiting on for years. This has been fantastic on that aspect.
Encounters are a bit of a mixed bag for me. I like the mechanics as a whole, I like the level of communication required, and I like that there's not much room for error with the encounters, but just enough that you can save a run with some quick thinking. This is different from some past raids where it is almost guaranteed a wipe if one person dies or one thing gets missed, as well as the other end of the spectrum where people can die left and right, but the encounter is so simple and bland that it doesn't matter and won't be a wipe even if 4 players go down at the same time (I'm looking at you, every single encounter in DSC *yawn*).
However, the encounters do feel as if they drag on longer than they need to, especially Caretaker. Nobody likes a health-gated boss, but he also would die way too quick without that health gate in place; I'm speaking strictly on the raid as it is right now, not when Contest Mode was on. I feel like four floors worth of repeating the same mechanics goes too long. Three, counting the last stand, seems like it'd be a good spot. The first encounter and third encounter are a bit long too, but since they aren't boss encounters, I'm more okay with how they are.
Rhulk is a fun final boss. Some neat mechanics that differ from the rest of the raid, which is refreshing as the typical Destiny raid final boss is essentially "take all the mechanics from previous encounters and put them together." It's quite fun actively wanting to jump into the laser beam that you would otherwise want to avoid at all costs. An interesting twist. Rhulk's attacks are unique too. He's also different from most raid bosses as he is very mobile, even during the actual damage phase where most bosses either stop moving around, or never really were moving to begin with.
Jury is still out on the armor. I'm not sure if I care for the look or not. That I will decide later. But I can say I appreciate that it is bold, very different, and easily recognizable as the raid armor, unlike other raids with more generic looking armor (DSC is a good example of this).
The weapons that I've gotten thus far I really like. SMG, grenade launcher, and linear fusion. Especially the linear fusion because I got a pretty nice roll on it. But all the weapons have the same, very cool look to them, sounds that differ from other weapons, and a very appealing intrinsic perk.
Overall, I like the raid more than our last couple we got in DSC (too simple for my taste), and VoG, which I've done far too many times in D1 alone and so it doesn't remotely excite me, especially since it objectively wasn't a very enjoyable raid when compared to others in the franchise. I'd give it a solid 9/10. Aside from Caretaker being a more drawn out encounter than I think it needs to be, I don't have much negative to say. I would say it is near the top of my personal raid rankings, maybe a solid 3rd, arguably second. Wrath still holds that top spot as my favorite, but Vow did a good job at coming fairly close. In the end, good job to Bungie and especially the raid team.

It's funny you say wrath is your favorite, even though it's mechanics are just has forgivable has DSC, someone dies, no problem someone will just double cannon or double throw, not to mention Aksis has been soloed, even by the likes of Datto I figured Kingsfall would be your favorite, it leaves no room for error, especially the sisters and Oryx encounters, 1 screw up and rip -
It's only bland for Caretaker if you're not one of the runners. Each level has a slightly more complex route you need to go through, with the 3rd being a jumping puzzle - something rather simple, but not everyone excels at. I feel the last time a raid was this enjoyable to learn and enjoy graphically was GoS - anotther raid, as you mentioned, that requires precision, coordination, and very small margin for error. It seems the only people complaining about "how bad it is" are the ones who haven't even finished it yet. My only problem with the raid is that my full runs are counting as CP, whenever we have someone d/c or leave with someone else taking their spot. Dunno if this is a glitch, but I hate being one of those guys who only does CP's. Feels it takes away from the whole purpose of doing a raid unless you're farming the exotic for a newbie

1 ReplyI thoroughly enjoyed the raid as well. Caretaker seemed fine in terms of length of the fight. I like the old school mmo boss fight mechanic of actually tanking/training a boss while the team does other stuff. The first encounter drags on a bit. I think 2 totems would've been plenty. No need for 3. I'd say the pre-encounter payload is a little dragging as well but it's fine.

2 Repliesannoying parts are: 1 person can't soot in all sides of obelisk enemies instant spam damage glitch(enemes deal more damage) hobgoblin/overload retalation bolt (tracking is stupid), i'm running and i get melted without contest mode, despite my teammate shooting them. unstoppables/overload: champions are limiting my loadout +match game, remove champions from raids 3rd encounter feels like need30 second to 1 minute extra time with enemies spawning at a slower rate, because i get short range amnesia with all the ads and memorizing symbols.

The armor grows on you if you embrace the absurdity of it.

3rd encounter doesn’t feel like it belongs. All the other encounters are awesome tho

1 ReplyRhulk is a fantastic boss. I love every part of that fight, and I love that he doesnt just stand there and get pummeled during DPS, or make you chase him.

Just wanted to let you know the caretaker health bar is a soft health gate. You have 3 seconds to do more damage after it hits that 3rd. If you have enough DPS then you can 2 floor him and skip the 3rd and go right to final stand.

I thought DSC was pretty good but maybe it was just the music for me. VoD is very good though I will agree

Hopped into it as a complete noob to the raid over the weekend with 5 other nooblets. We had some experience or knowledge of certain encounter but none had completed it. It took us under three hours to complete. I’d say the encounter that tools us the the most was the exhibition but we completed it in on our 3rd or fourth time. It wasn’t bad if the of people who run the relics know where they’re supposed to be and what to do. Rhulk isn’t too hard as long as you have the teams who know the callouts

2 RepliesHonestly you should just be happy I didn't pull off a "Taniks" and third-party the raid. I was going to until I realised it was suicide having to fight both Scorn, Hive as well as Six Guardians. I may have a good crew, but I still don't have a ketch. Just wait 'till Lightfall, I'll be back.

Caretaker isn’t really gated the way it looks. You can wipe him in 1-2 floors and progress that fight super quickly and just skip the third, kind of a weird thing to skip tho. Dude the armour is weird, like it looks darkness themed sure but I really don’t know how I feel about the hunter and warlock sets, titans is pretty solid and the moving parts are awesome to have back but idk. Every raid sets felt like a let down after AoT sets raided the bar so f’ing high
